Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Let’s Clear the Game and Go Home Together
After learning her brother had lost a teammate, Faye Yardley could only sigh. The number of people eliminated this time was unexpectedly high. ’Perhaps the simplest games are the easiest ones to break the rules in.’
’Will there be more mini-games?’
No one would know until the system gave a definitive answer.
Faye Yardley checked her Attributes and only just noticed that the lollipop she had earlier had increased her Spirit by one point. Her Spirit was now at 20, which meant only her Strength and Agility were still below that number.
"Sister, have some rose flower tea. The roses in the cultivation room are blooming beautifully. I moved a few of them into the house. In another two days, when the multiflora and Chinese roses bloom, you can put a couple of pots in your room and on the small balcony."
"Okay, thank you. By the way, has that frozen man woken up yet?"
Willow Yardley smiled and said, "Not yet, but Eamon has almost finished eating the outer layer of ice covering him."
"Then tell him to be careful not to eat the person. It would be best to leave a thin layer of ice on him."
All Faye Yardley needed was for Eamon to not eat the man. She was worried that he might get carried away by his appetite and forget, so a reminder was essential.
"Don’t worry, Sister. I’ll keep a close eye on him."
She took a sip of the rose flower tea. It had a faint floral fragrance and a sweet taste, perfect for a leisurely moment of enjoying the sun in an air-conditioned room.
Her involvement in this game had felt minimal, leaving Faye Yardley with a sense of unreality.
After finishing her tea, she got up and went to the training room.
After all, a training session was only three hours, while the interval between games was four. ’If a game is about to start right after I get out of the training room, I can just drink a Physical Potion and a Spirit Potion to get myself back into peak condition.’
This wasn’t the time for idle speculation.
Gavin Donovan had just finished saying a few words to comfort the others in his team when he received a call from his Second Senior Brother, whom he hadn’t contacted in days.
Henry Lewis didn’t look well, but his energy seemed high. "Little Junior Brother, do you have any medical supplies, like Bandages? Medicine for bruises and sprains would be even better."
"Second Senior Brother, I don’t. Look at my face, it’s black and blue. If I had any, I would’ve used them myself."
Gavin Donovan was no longer the same naive fool he’d been when he first entered the game.
His feelings toward his Second Senior Brother were now complicated. He naturally had some affection for him, but reason told him to stay far away from such a selfish and opportunistic person.
If his boss hadn’t given him an idea last time, his own raft would have been swallowed up by his Second Senior Brother. In that scenario, he feared he would have been reduced to being his Second Senior Brother’s dog.
It was a harsh way to put it, but that was genuinely his first thought.
Henry Lewis had plenty of complaints about his Little Junior Brother, but he was the one asking for a favor now. He felt that by taking the initiative to call, he was already giving Gavin Donovan plenty of face. How dare he play hard to get?!
Seeing a figure moving in the background behind Gavin Donovan, his expression instantly soured. "You merged rafts with someone else but weren’t willing to merge with me. What’s that supposed to mean? You look down on your Second Senior Brother?"
Gavin Donovan’s face grew cold as well. "Second Senior Brother, First Senior Brother said you were cultivating a tranquil mind. Is that true?"
"Fine, fine, fine! You’re all so wonderful!"
Henry Lewis was so enraged that he hung up the phone and immediately blocked and deleted Gavin Donovan.
Gavin Donovan stood stunned for a long moment before breaking into a relieved smile. ’Perhaps he and his Second Senior Brother were never meant to walk the same path.’
Ethan Yardley’s team had been reduced in number, but he wasn’t in a hurry to recruit anyone else. After all, the thousand-person group chat he ran was essentially full of candidates.
However, many people in that thousand-person group had also perished. Looking at the grayed-out profile pictures, Ethan Yardley’s feelings were complicated.
To survive, and to live well in such a cruel world, he needed to become incredibly strong himself.
He, too, strode toward the training room.
[Agility +1]
She had been consistently training her agility recently, and sure enough, after a few sessions, it had increased.
Though Faye Yardley was drenched in sweat, the smile on her face was radiant.
Without taking much of a break, she went to the rest area in the training room and took an Intermediate Body Refining Pill.
The moment she swallowed it, the pain arrived as expected.
Three minutes. Every time, those three minutes felt exceptionally long.
But after the pain passed this time, Faye Yardley had only gained [Constitution +1].
’It seems the effects really are diminishing,’ she thought. The fact that she gained anything at all was likely thanks to her maxed-out Luck attribute.
’If one isn’t enough, I’ll just take another.’ In any case, she only had one last Intermediate Body Refining Pill left.
Without a trace of hesitation, she popped it into her mouth.
The tide of agony washed over her once more, coming on faster and more violently than the previous time.
It was enough to make Faye Yardley let out a muffled groan.
The pain was so intense she was on the verge of losing consciousness. Faye Yardley didn’t even have the strength to pinch herself.
She could only rely on her willpower to hold on.
Sensing her resilience, a surge of strength welled up from her heart to support her.
Three minutes had passed, and the pain receded like the tide. However, Faye Yardley didn’t get up. Her body was now filled with an energy that was constantly washing through every part of her, as if trying to break through the blockages in her meridians.
These intermittent pangs of agony were even more unbearable than the continuous pain had been.
Just when the agony passed and she thought she could relax, it would sweep over her again. Relax, then pain, relax, then pain. This cycle repeated until she was utterly exhausted...
But her suffering had not been in vain. Having endured it all, Faye Yardley wanted to laugh out loud.
[Constitution +1, Spirit +1, Agility +1, Strength +2]
In the end, it was Willow Yardley who helped her to her bedroom door. After thanking her, Faye Yardley went inside, took a shower, changed her clothes, and lay down on her bed.
Only then did she see that she had many messages and group chat mentions.
Finn Ford: Thanks, Yardley, for saving my sorry hide. Just give the word if you need anything.
Caleb Colby: So that flying acrobat was you, Yardley! I thought it looked like you. I even took a picture. [Photo.jpg]. So cool.
Eleanor Jonas: Thank you, Faye. Because you stepped in, many of our comrades made it out alive.
Zachary Pierce: [Red Envelope] I didn’t know what you needed, so I just prepared a little something. I imagine you’re tired of hearing ’thank you’ by now.
Seeing this, Faye Yardley couldn’t help but smile and accepted the Red Envelope.
Inside was indeed a "little something"—a very exquisite wood carving. If she wasn’t mistaken, it was a carving of her. It was an item that could increase the raft’s Happiness value for its ranking.
She placed the wood carving directly on her nightstand.
She continued reading the messages.
Gavin Donovan: Boss, I had a complete falling out with my Second Senior Brother. I don’t know how to tell our First Senior Brother.
She replied directly: Didn’t you two already have a falling out last time? How could you have another one?
Ethan Yardley: Faye, take care of yourself. You don’t need to give your big brother things anymore. Your safety is more important.
The smile on Faye Yardley’s face deepened as she read her brother’s words. She replied directly: Bro, I only give you things when I have extra, so don’t feel burdened by it. While you’re worrying about me, I’m also wishing for you to be well. Let’s clear this game together and go home.
