Chapter 134: Chapter 134: Come on Beans, I Want It, I Want It Candy
After dinner, she went into the training room again. But today was strange. It was already 9:42 PM, and the sun should have set long ago. Yet, it was as if time had stood still—the sky remained bright.
The heat hadn’t noticeably dropped from daytime levels; in fact, she could barely feel any difference.
’How strange. Is the day supposed to be this abnormal?’
After showering, she checked the messages on the public channel and discovered that people were starting to experience different things.
Some, like her, were still experiencing daylight, with bright skies. Others had already transitioned into a normal night.
Moreover, it seemed more people had transitioned into a normal night.
’Strange. Is the System splitting people into groups again?’
Faye Yardley opened her small group chat and asked, "@Leo Sloan, Mr. Sloan, has it gotten dark on your end yet?"
Evidently, everyone was still relaxing at this hour, or at least paying attention to the chat screen.
Leo Sloan: Yes. Don’t tell me it’s still broad daylight on your end?
Faye Yardley: Yeah. Strange, our rafts shouldn’t be that far apart.
Bonnie Callahan: Babe, I’m the same as you. It’s still really bright outside. If I could still find any trash collection bins, I’d be out there fishing for treasure boxes right now.
Wade Warren: It’s nighttime for me too. If you can’t sleep, Callahan, you should get a workout in.
Faye Yardley: Just draw your curtains, get some sleep, and build up your energy. No one knows what will happen tomorrow, the last day of the month.
Bonnie Callahan: Listening to you, babe. I’ll sleep when it’s time. It’s true that it’s not my usual bedtime yet.
Wade Warren: I saw someone in the other two channels speculating that those who have constant daylight will encounter the new event tomorrow, while those with a normal night cycle will get it a bit later. That makes some sense.
Faye Yardley: I doubt it. The System wouldn’t treat people that differently. It’s more likely that the content of the event will be slightly different.
Zachary Pierce: Yardley, are you saying we might all be participating in different events?
Faye Yardley: During the last event, "The Otherkin Arrival," the Otherkin everyone encountered were actually all different. The outcomes were also different depending on how you handled them. This time, I’m guessing the events we participate in might be different from the very beginning. The items we’re getting from boxes are different, so it’s possible the events we participate in will be as well.
Leo Sloan: I got a floral handkerchief from my box today. I didn’t get the toy car you guys were talking about.
Zachary Pierce went to his super-large group chat to ask around and collect data. The results did indeed seem to be related to the items from the boxes.
Faye Yardley stopped reading the group chat and closed the public channel. She watered the Magic Seed, handled the Green Egg for a moment, and after some thought, went downstairs to feed the Bronze Cat a small dried fish.
After all, the Bronze Cat Statue could increase her raft’s defense. She couldn’t let its favorability drop.
Next, she opened all the boxes she had fished up earlier.
The wooden boxes contained the same old toys. The only difference this time was that she also got a frog mascot costume. Thanks to her Talent, she ended up with three of them.
Looking at the single Iron Treasure Box, Faye Yardley rubbed her hands together, hoping for something better.
[You have obtained: Sewing Kit x1, Transformation Card x1, Limited-Time Event Damage Reflection Card x2, Toy Car Accelerator x1, come on beans x5, Personal Mirror x1]
Talent triggered... tripling the rewards.
[come on beans: This is one of children’s favorite snacks. Just take one out, and many children will appear. Who do you want to give it to?]
’What an interesting description.’ Faye Yardley carefully stored them all at the very front of her backpack.
[Sewing Kit: Don’t underestimate this sewing kit. It has everything inside and can help you mend many things. If you know how, you could even embroider with it?]
[Personal Mirror: The mirror can reveal all truths, but it can only be used once per event!]
[Limited-Time Event Damage Reflection Card: When participating in an event, you can reflect a fatal blow back onto the attacker. Each card can only be used once, and only one card can be used per event.]
After some thought, she packed up two sets of the toy cars, mascot costumes, and floral handkerchiefs for her brother. She also sent him a big Red Envelope containing one of each of the items from the Iron Treasure Box.
Since Bonnie Callahan was the only one in the group chat who was also experiencing daylight, Faye thought for a moment before sending her one of the Damage Reflection Cards.
Bonnie Callahan replied immediately: Babe, love ya! I got a pack of kids’ snacks from my box. Here, for you. [Red Envelope].
Faye Yardley accepted the Red Envelope and received a pack of "I Want It, I Want It Candy." The description was similar to the ’come on beans’.
[I Want It, I Want It Candy: This is one of children’s favorite snacks. Since I’ve seen it, I must have it! Any child who doesn’t get one will become very angry.]
’I can only take this candy out when there’s a single child around. Any more than that, and one will get angry. This is a survival game, and I’m sure no one wants to see the consequences of that anger.’
TSK TSK. After thinking about it, she sent one of her ’come on beans’ back to Bonnie Callahan, with a special warning that it was best to only give it when there was a single child present.
Faye Yardley looked through the balcony glass toward the thatched hut. The ice sculpture was gone. It seemed Eamon had finally dragged it back to his cabin.
"Willow, Eamon didn’t eat that frozen person, did he?"
Hearing the question, Willow Yardley stopped her cleaning and walked over. After a moment of surprise, she said, "I don’t think he’d go that far. But since you’re worried, sister, I’ll go and give him a reminder."
"Okay. Make sure he doesn’t eat the person. A man-eating Eamon would be a bit too scary, and I couldn’t let him stay on my raft."
"I understand, sister. I’ll keep an eye on his diet."
"Thank you for your hard work. Get some rest. Good night."
"Good night."
Faye Yardley returned to her bedroom, glanced outside at the still-bright sky, then drew the curtains and went straight to bed.
She slept well and woke up promptly at four in the morning.
She pulled open the curtains. Outside, the sun had changed position, moving from the west back to the east, but the sky was still bright.
After some simple stretches, she entered the training room. When she came out and returned to her room, she took an Intermediate Body Refining Pill. Her already exhausted body was immediately assaulted by excruciating pain.
She instantly curled up into a ball on the floor.
Faye Yardley kept repeating to herself in her mind, ’Just endure it. It’ll be over soon.’
The RING RING RING of the phone made her feel exceptionally irritated.
She was in too much pain to make a sound. She didn’t answer, but the caller kept insisting.
When the pain finally subsided, she lay flat on her back on the floor and glanced at the phone. The persistent caller was, surprisingly, Bella Dillon.
She answered it.
Bella Dillon’s excited voice came through: "Faye! I’ve made it to Isle 1004! I’m heading out to find that lake you told me about now!"
"This is what you were calling me nonstop for? Do you have the special fishing rod already?"
"Hehe, don’t worry, I’ve been prepared for a while. I even made a special detour to other islands to buy some things before coming here."
"Well, I wish you success, but I have no idea if there are any other dangers on that island." Faye Yardley glanced at the environment behind Bella Dillon, and her eyes widened. "Wait, did you go to the wrong island? The little fishing village on Island 1004 is supposed to be deserted! What’s going on behind you?!"
