Chapter 121: Chapter 121: The Strong Never Complain
When Faye Yardley didn’t want to do something, there was nothing Ethan Yardley could do about it.
After all, their current situation didn’t exactly allow him to do what he wanted—like tying his disobedient sister to his side.
In the end, he could only resort to nagging her like a mother hen, reminding her again and again.
Eventually, Faye Yardley grew impatient, hung up on him, and went to sleep.
She ended up sleeping less than four hours, waking up punctually at 4:00 AM.
After her usual morning workout, she once again dove headfirst into the training room.
As for Hailey Miles, she had of course seen Faye Yardley’s post. To her, it was nothing but contempt and provocation, yet she didn’t dare to respond.
It had happened twice now. The first time felt as unreal as a dream, but it must have been real, because she had lost an item called Nightmare—a fact she only discovered later when taking inventory of her assets.
The second time was even more terrifying. ’I really thought I was finished that time,’ but the whisper of a Demon echoed in her ears, telling her she could live if she traded her soul to it.
Under those circumstances, how could she possibly refuse the deal?
’Now, my soul doesn’t even belong to me anymore. If I’m killed again, what will I have left to trade? I have nothing left to save my life. What’s left for me besides death?’
’Why isn’t anyone condemning Faye Yardley?’
’She tried to kill me for no reason. Shouldn’t everyone be denouncing her?’
"Hailey, don’t pay any mind to that Faye Yardley. Don’t be impulsive, and don’t fall into her trap."
"I know, Mr. Thatcher. Thank you. If you hadn’t risked your life to protect me last time, I’d definitely be dead by now."
"In any case, as long as you don’t take the initiative to engage with her, you should be safe."
Hailey Miles nodded at Xavier Thatcher on the video call to show she understood. "I owe my life to you, Mr. Thatcher. I won’t do anything reckless."
Seeing that she wasn’t going to be impulsive, Xavier Thatcher felt relieved. He had thought her post on the public channel was ill-advised, but considering what the young woman had been through, it was only natural for her to want to vent after identifying her enemy.
’It seems she’s still rational,’ he thought, which put his mind at ease.
The reason he didn’t want to merge with Hugh Langdon’s raft was that he was thinking ahead. In a little over a month, the second wave of people would arrive, including his family. He would need an independent raft to welcome them; otherwise, he’d need permission from the raft’s primary owner.
In this regard, Xavier Thatcher was level-headed—he wasn’t like Hailey Miles.
It was already 9:30 AM when Faye Yardley emerged from the training room.
Willow Yardley was fishing by the thatched shelter, and Eamon was in the cultivation room tending to the various plants.
She went back for a shower and a change of clothes, only to find the egg in the box on her nightstand was still completely motionless, showing no signs of change.
If Eamon hadn’t told her the Life Force within the egg was thriving, she would have suspected it was dead.
"Little Bluebird, do you need to bask in the sun? Don’t worry, the air conditioning in the sunroom runs twenty-four hours a day. You won’t overheat even while sunbathing." As she spoke, Faye Yardley moved the entire box to the sofa on the small balcony.
’After all, hatching eggs requires a certain amount of warmth.’
’I don’t know the proper procedure, but a little sun probably won’t hurt.’
When she went downstairs, the dining table was already laden with delicious food.
Faye Yardley was surprised to see lychee shrimp balls. ’When did they start growing lychees?’
’Of course, it’s also possible Willow Yardley traded strawberries and watermelons for them on the market.’
In any case, Faye Yardley quite enjoyed the sweet and sour lychee shrimp balls.
She took a sip of apple-pear juice. ’Absolutely divine.’
After a moment’s thought, she opened the public channel.
She scrolled to the posts with the most likes. Hailey Miles’s post was still the original one accusing her of being the killer, with no follow-up.
’Tsk, tsk. What a coward.’
The problem was, Faye Yardley was holding an Invasion Card but didn’t know who to invade. If she went to someone’s raft and Hailey Miles wasn’t there, it would be both awkward and a waste of a precious Invasion Card.
Many people on the public channel were complaining. The weather was getting hotter and hotter, and they felt like they were melting even while fishing under an umbrella.
Of course, in addition to the complaints, there were also people showing off their loot. After all, a fair number of people had gotten lucky with good drops.
And since everyone could use the trading market for their needs, fewer people were shouting about what they lacked on the public channel. Instead, the number of people just venting had increased.
[There’s less and less wood. If you want to dismantle chests, you have to fish up a Wooden Treasure Chest first. Times are getting tougher.]
[Everyone has family they’re waiting for, right? Who doesn’t want more wood? Damn it, you have to buy Bandages with wood now. Can’t even trade food for them anymore.]
[We still have 35 days to prepare. Try to be more optimistic. The deep freeze passed, so this heat wave will surely pass quickly too.]
[I moved my shelter to the edge of the raft. Now I can sit inside with the door open and fish. If you can’t get a sunshade, you can try my method. Tested and confirmed to be effective.]
[To the person above, brilliant! I’m going to try it right now.]
Faye Yardley was genuinely surprised. She hadn’t expected someone to come up with the idea of rearranging their shelter on the raft to combat the discomfort of fishing in the intense heat.
’That’s a true stroke of genius,’ she had to admit.
People who don’t think just complain about the heat. People who use their heads make clever use of what they have to overcome the pressures of their environment.
As expected, the strong don’t complain. They just do everything they can to change their circumstances, and if they can’t, they adapt.
Faye Yardley continued to enjoy her delicious food and drink. After finishing her meal, she put on a sun hat and walked straight to the edge of the raft. The sea’s shimmering surface made it difficult to see if there were any fish below.
She took out her Longbow, gave the string a test pull, then retrieved a Crystal Arrow. She nocked the arrow, drew the string to a full draw, and fired at what looked to her like the brightest point of light on the water’s surface.
SWOOSH~
The sound of it tearing through the air followed suit.
After leaving the bowstring, the Crystal Arrow shimmered from faintly visible into a state of complete Invisibility, vanishing from sight.
It landed exactly on her intended target, sending a ripple across the water.
Gradually, the ripples spread, but then the points of disturbance multiplied abruptly. An entire section of the sea became a mass of colliding and canceling waves.
’So, after hitting the target, it also deals splash damage to the surrounding area. Isn’t that just like a Blast Arrow?’
’How do I retrieve the arrow?’
The moment the thought crossed her mind, the Crystal Arrow reappeared in her hand.
"Sweet!"
’Does this mean I have an endless supply of arrows?’
Unfortunately, all weapons had their limits, and the Crystal Arrow was no exception. It could be fired a maximum of ten times in a row before it needed to recharge.
Still, that was more than powerful enough.
Several fish were already floating belly-up on the surface where she had shot the arrow.
Protected by the Water-Repelling Pearl, she stepped right off the raft and simply ran across the water’s surface. There was no way she was letting her catch go to waste.
When she reached the area, she saw several large fish eating the Fish Meat of those she had killed with her Crystal Arrow. That was simply unacceptable!
After killing the surrounding fish one by one and storing them in her backpack, Faye Yardley noticed a massive black shadow rising rapidly from the depths beneath her feet...
