Chapter 219: "What is he like in the other world?"
When Qie Xieling’s body was about to hit the ground, Jolie ran over and caught him. But soon she found herself in a perilous situation, caught between Qie Xieling’s suffering and the wrath of the spoilt brat Queen Yana. As Qie Xieling’s body convulsed with the poison’s effects, Jolie’s heart was heavy with worry.
With Qie Xieling’s body trembling and burning in pain, he writhed on the ground as if tormented by invisible forces. The sensation was likened to a swarm of a thousand ants crawling all over him, intensifying his agony. Jolie could only watch helplessly, desperately searching for a way to alleviate his suffering.
But in the midst of this dire moment, the animosity of Queen Yana grew even stronger. Her heart was riddled with resentment and rage. The person she had loved and did whatever it takes to let him die peacefully without her mother torturing him betrayed her. He suffered yet he had the audacity not to appreciate her efforts but shack up with her half brother who also happened to be her enemy.
With a surge of dark energy, she conjured a bolt of lightning that crackled with rage and resentment. The lightning bolt arched towards Jolie and Qie Xieling, aimed to unleash its destructive power upon them.
Reacting swiftly, Jolie called upon her own magical abilities. She cast a powerful shield spell, summoning an invincible barrier of magical force to protect her and Qie Xieling. The shield appeared just in time, intercepting the incoming bolt of lightning and dispersing its dangerous energy harmlessly.
Despite the failure of her initial attack, Queen Yana refused to yield. Determination gleamed in her eyes as she intensified her assault, her body becoming enveloped in sparks of electricity. Chanting dark incantations, she sought to overcome Jolie’s shield and unleash her full wrath upon them.
However, Queen Yana’s fury could not penetrate the shield’s defences. Frustration and exhaustion began to wear her down. Breathing heavily, sweat dripping down her forehead, she gazed up at the sky and saw a sudden burst of bright azure light that illuminated the heavens. She suddenly had a very bad premonition.
To Queen Yana’s horror, she heard the anguished screams of her mother, Loviator. Ridden with concern she staggered out of the forest her heart beating through her chest.
The terrifying screams echoing through the air were a result of Loviator’s disintegrating body. Each lash of the nine-stranded whip inflicted by King Luo caused Loviator’s form to crumble into dust.
Filled with terror, Queen Yana stumbled over, her heart consumed by fear of her own impending fate. If her mother dies then her backer would be gone. Who knows what King Luo would do to her after that? She ran towards her mother, yelling out desperately, but was repelled by the force emitting from King Luo’s protective barrier.
As she tumbled to the ground, her knees scratched and her elbow broken, she rose with a dusty appearance, her chest heaving with exhaustion and trepidation. She knew at that moment that it was over for her. She had to do something drastic otherwise she would suffer the same fate as her mother.
The battlefield was finally bathed in serenity as the radiant azure lights gently faded away, leaving behind a stillness that belied the fierce conflict that had raged moments before. The remnants of the furious clash lingered in the form of dense dust clouds, reaching great heights of up to 50 feet, obscuring the once clear skies.
In the midst of this ethereal aftermath, King Luo, his body transitioning from the majestic form of a dragon to his human form, found himself enveloped in a brilliant light. The iridescent glow gradually receded, revealing King Luo adorned in resplendent Kingly robes. Undeterred by the lingering dust, he strode purposefully towards the nearby forest, his steps quickened by the urgency to find Qie Xieling.
During the intense battle, he had caught a glimpse of Qie Xieling’s body falling to the ground, but he had to eliminate the threat. He had to destroy that nefarious goddess and neutralize the threat she posed towards Qie Xieling when he had the chance.
Now that she was gone her heart raced with apprehension as he traversed the forest in search of his fallen lover. Finally, he discovered Qie Xieling half lying in Jolie’s embrace. His body was convulsing in agony and from Jolie’s expression, it didn’t look good.
A torrent of anguish surged through King Luo, dampening his spirits at the sight of his beloved in such distress. Without hesitation, he gently gathered Qie Xieling into his arms while asking, "What is wrong with him?"
Jolie also had no idea. She was still trying to figure it out as well. It wasn’t the system so this could only be something in the game.
His mind raced to find a way to stem the spreading poison and alleviate Qie Xieling’s suffering. It broke his heart to see him like this. Other than his mother, Qie Xieling was the only one who had ever sacrificed themselves for him not out of obligation but true love. This knowledge weighed heavily in his heart.
With tender care, King Luo cradled Qie Xieling, his gaze filled with anxiety. He knew that time was of the essence to counteract the poison coursing through his lover’s veins. He used his exalting breath to try and heal him but it only managed to relieve his pain temporarily. Qie Xieling stopped convulsing and his face instantly became peaceful.
He caressed Qie Xieling’s flushed cheek with his thumb. Thoughts and memories flooded his mind, recollections of Qie Xieling’s smile and the way he looked at him with tender affection. He felt sour knowing that he couldn’t even protect him.
In the hushed tranquillity of the forest, King Luo asked, "Is he like this in the other world? Is he sick?"
Jolie didn’t expect him to ask her that. She was busy trying to shake information from the bloody system. "No, he is in great health and very annoying," she replied poking Qie Xieling’s cheek.
King Luo glanced at those cheeks that seemed glutinous and he suddenly wanted to touch them too. He wanted to see Qie Xieling smiling while he was doing it.
