Chapter 214: I kept Calling Your Name
Then he pulled his hand back, raised up his hand to touch her face and then he stood and walked out of the room.
She sat there staring at the closed door.
Her hand went back to her throat.
The mark was warm under her fingers, she pressed two fingers to it the same way he had.
She sat there for a very long time deep in thought, But the only question she could come up with was:
’’Now what?’’
***
She was still sitting there when she heard the knock.
She didn’t answer but the door opened anyway.
Sebastian.
She didn’t even see his full face properly before her eyes went blurry. She saw him standing there in the doorway with Lucian right behind him and something about seeing them just broke something open in her chest.
The first tear came before she could stop it.
Then the second.
Then she stopped trying to stop them.
"Lilith...."
Sebastian was across the room before he finished saying her name. He sat down on the bed right next to her and pulled her in and she went to him, she turned her face into his chest and held onto his shirt with both hands and cried.
Sebastain didn’t say anything, he just held her. One hand on her back moving slowly.
"I’ve got you," he said finally. Quietly against her hair. "I’ve got you Lilith."
She only cried harder.
She felt the bed dip on her other side.
Lucian. Sitting close. He didn’t touch her, he Just sat there. Present the way he was always present.
She cried until she couldn’t cry anymore, Then after what felt like forever, she finally she pulled back slightly.
Wiped her face with the back of her hand.
She kept her head down and didn’t look at either of them.
"I’m sorry," she said. Her voice wrecked.
"Don’t," Lucian stopped her immediately, Like the word offended him.
She almost smiled.
Sebastian still had one hand on her back. Hadn’t moved it. Like he was making sure she knew he was still there.
"I was so scared," she said.
It came out before she decided to say it.
"I know," Sebastian said.
"I kept calling your name." She shook her head slightly. "I don’t even know why. I just.....I kept calling it."
Sebastian was quiet for a moment.
"I heard you," he said. "Every single time."
Lilith looked at him then.
"You were both ready to fight him," she said. "You were going to fight your own brother."
"Yes," Lucian replied with no hesitation.
"Even knowing....."
"Even knowing," Sebastian said.
She’d known it at that moment. Had felt it.....the way they’d positioned themselves, the way they’d moved closer, the conversation that had passed between them without words. She’d known they would try.
But hearing it said out loud was different.
"Why," she said.
Lucian looked at her like the question surprised him.
"Because you’re ours," he said. Like it was the simplest thing in the world. Like she should already know that. "You’ve been ours since the moment you were sent to us and we found out that you are our mate"
She looked at him.
"The mark," she said. She touched her throat. Couldn’t seem to stop touching it. "I didn’t....I didn’t choose it."
"I know," Sebastian said.
"Does that matter. To you."
He was quiet for a moment.
"It matters," he said carefully. "What happened this morning.....the way it happened....that’s not nothing. We know that." He held her gaze. "But what’s done is done Lilith. And what’s done means you’re protected. By the bond. By the pack. By us." He paused. "I’m not sorry you’re marked. I’m sorry it scared you."
She looked at him for a long moment.
Then she looked at Lucian.
He reached out and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. Gently and carefully. His big hand barely touching her face.
"You’re not alone in this," he said. "Whatever happens next. Whatever this is. You’re not alone."
She felt her throat tighten again.
Swallowed it down.
"You keep saying that," she said.
"Because you keep needing to hear it," he said.
She gave his a sad smile and shook her head to indicate that he was right.
Sebastian’s hand moved on her back patting her back gently.
She leaned into him slightly.
They sat there for a while like that. The three of them.
She had about a hundred questions.
But she decided that she won’t ask them now.
Or...at least not now.

*Days Later*
Lilith was sitting in her favorite spot at the window when her phone rang.
She’d been sitting there for an hour doing nothing. Just watching the grounds below. The pack members moving around like everything was normal. Like the estate hadn’t shaken three days ago. Like the windows on the upper floor hadn’t needed replacing.
Like everything wasn’t completely different now.
She almost didn’t answer.
Then she saw the name on the screen.
Wren.
She picked up.
"Finally," Wren said. "I’ve been calling for two days."
"I didn’t know." Lilith pulled her knees to her chest. "I’m sorry"
There was silence from Wren’s side of the call and then she said "Are you okay."
It wasn’t really a question. Wren had known her since they were seven years old. She knew the difference between Lilith being okay and Lilith saying she was okay.
"I’m fine," Lilith said.
"Lilith."
"I’m fine Wren."
"Something happened," Wren said.
Lilith pressed her fingers to her throat without thinking about it. Found the mark. Warm under her fingertips the way it always was now.
She dropped her hand.
"The post," she said. "You called about the post."
"I called about you," Wren said. "The post is why I kept calling." Her voice shifted slightly. Careful now. "It’s spreading Lilith. More forums. Someone is pushing it and they’re not stopping at all its like they are trying to prove something."
Lilith closed her eyes.
"How bad," she said.
"Bad enough that I’m worried." Wren replied
