Chapter 209: Kael Marked Lilith

She wasn’t sure that was true.

But she nodded anyway.

Kael yanked her back against him and her head dropped back.

She came twice before he finally let her rest.

And both times she hated that she did and couldn’t stop it. The heat didn’t care about fear. It didn’t care about her tears or confusion or the fact that the man currently destroying her wasn’t entirely the man she’d been in this bed with for hours.

The heat had exactly one function and Kael was performing it and her body responded the way it was built to respond.

Both times Kael didn’t slow down or soften or give her a second to breathe.

Both times Sebastian said her name and she heard it and held onto it.

Then Kael brought her back to the bed.

Onto her back.

He came down over her.....and this was the moment that was different. This was the moment that stopped being purely animal. He looked down at her face. Those silver eyes moving over her....her tears, her flushed skin, her hands gripping the sheets, her face that was still looking so scared.

Something moved through his expression.

Still feral. Still ancient. Still nothing like Nicholas’s careful controlled face.

But underneath it....recognition.

Not just her body.

Her.

The way a wolf recognized its mate at a frequency that had no translation into human language. Something that went past want or need or even claim. Something that simply knew.

She looked up at him through her tears.

She was still scared.

But something in her looked back at something in him and knew it too.

He moved inside her. Slower this time. Deeper. His eyes staying on her face.

She felt her hands stop gripping the sheets.

She didn’t decide to reach for him. Her hands just moved. Found his arms. Held on.

He lowered his head.

She knew what was coming.

She could feel it in the way the air changed. In the way Sebastian made a sound behind her that was not quite a word. In the way the heat shifted.....from demanding to something else entirely. Something that felt like completion. Like the last piece of something enormous clicking into place.

She didn’t move.

His mouth found her throat.

And he bit down.

It was not gentle.

It was not romantic.

His teeth broke her skin.

The pain was so bad that she she screamed.....a sound that was nothing like anything she had produced in the days of her heat, nothing like anything she had ever produced in her life...it was raw and loud, tearing out of her throat and through the walls and through the stone and into the estate and beyond it.

The mark bloomed.

Hot. Golden. Pulsing against her skin like something alive.

And then something shattered.

She felt it in her bones.

Something deep inside her. Wound so tight, compressed and locked and buried so far down she had never known it was there.....had lived her entire life on top of it without knowing....and it snapped.

Clean through.

Like a rope cut with a single blade.

And everything underneath it came out at once.

The windows didn’t just shake.

They exploded outward.

Both of them. At the same time. Glass outward into the morning air. The curtains tearing from their rails. The cold dawn rushing in.

The floor cracked.

Not a hairline fracture. A crack that ran from the bed to the door like a gunshot, stone splitting clean along an ancient seam....and the sound of it was loud enough that the brothers heard shouting somewhere below them on another floor.

The air went gold.

Dense and blinding and total. Every particle of it lit from inside. Sebastian threw his arm up in front of his face and stumbled back a step. Lucian grabbed the bedpost with both hands and held on. The gold light poured out of her skin.....out of her hands and her chest and her throat and everywhere...like it had been waiting her entire life to get out and had simply been waiting for the door to open.

Her back arched completely off the mattress.

Her mouth was open.

And then she felt everything.

Every year of suppressed power. Every moment of her life spent believing she was broken, incomplete, wolfless and worthless and less than. Twenty two years of the most powerful witch bloodline in existence compressed into one body and told to be nothing.

She felt all of it release.

And then she felt nothing at all.

Her scream cut off.

And she dropped back to the bed.

Below them, Callum was on the training ground running a formation drill when it hit.

He dropped to one knee in the dirt before he understood why. His hands going flat to the ground. His wolf surging up so fast he couldn’t contain it. Around him twenty pack members stopped mid-movement. Some of them stumbling. Two of them shifting involuntarily....partial shifts, just hands and eyes, snapping back a second later confused and shaking.

Callum stayed on his knee.

His head down. He knew something had happened, something enormous.

He didn’t know what. He knew it was coming from the main building. He knew it was the Alphas. And he knew.....in the way wolves knew things that had no explanation.....that whatever had happened was big.

He stayed where he was until the gold light faded from the air.

Then he stood up.

Looked at the estate.

Looked at the shattered windows on the upper floor.

And said nothing.

Mara was in the corridor outside Lilith’s suite when the crack ran through the floor beneath her feet.

She put her hand flat against the wall and stayed still.

The gold light came under the door.....thin at the edges, then brighter, then so bright it lit the entire corridor like the sun had moved inside. She turned her face away. And kept her hand on the wall.
