Chapter 127: What Are The Blackwood Alphas Up To?

But they weren’t doing any of that.

They were making her want them. Making her crave them. Making her understand that there was something different happening here. Something that went beyond the contract. Something that felt possessive in a way that was almost... caring?

No. That was madness.

But as she lay in her bed, her body still burning with arousal and need, she couldn’t deny the truth of it. They were strategically breaking down every wall she’d built. One touch at a time. One moment at a time. One brother at a time.

She pressed her thighs together, trying to ease the ache that wouldn’t go away.

It only made it worse.

She could still feel him inside her. Could still taste the ghost of his kiss on her breasts. Could still see the look in his eyes when he tasted her on his fingers.

And the worst part, the most terrifying part:

She wasn’t fighting it anymore.

Her body had surrendered completely. Her mind was following close behind.

And the most confusing realization of all: part of her was already looking forward to it.

The thought should have horrified her.

Instead, it made heat pool between her legs all over again.

She buried her face in her pillow and tried not to think about what would happen when Lucian summoned her next. Tried not to imagine what his energy would feel like. Tried not to anticipate what all three of them together would do to her.

Tried and failed completely.

Because deep down, in the part of her she was afraid to acknowledge, she was already waiting for that summons.

And she was already surrendering before it even came.

Garrett sat at his desk in the quiet of his office, his mind consumed by thoughts he couldn’t silence.

The evening light was beginning to fade outside his window, casting long shadows across the compound. He’d dismissed the other pack members from his immediate vicinity an hour ago, needing solitude to process the observations that had been accumulating since the Blackwood brothers arrived three days ago.

Three days.

It felt like longer. It felt like the Summit had shifted on its axis the moment those three alphas stepped onto Shadowmere territory.

He stood and walked to the window, his hands clasped behind his back. From this vantage point, he could see sections of the compound. Warriors moving between buildings. Staff preparing for the evening ceremony. The rhythmic pulse of pack life continuing as it always did.

But nothing felt normal anymore.

His jaw tightened as he thought about the incidents. The growl in the courtyard. The way Lilith responded to the brothers. The possessiveness radiating from all three of them whenever she was in their vicinity. The Kieran situation and how Nicholas had handled it with such cold, calculated precision.

Garrett wasn’t a fool. He’d been an alpha for nearly twenty years. He understood power dynamics. He understood strategy. He understood when something significant was happening beneath the surface of civility and formal protocol.

Something significant was definitely happening.

And he needed to understand what before it spiraled beyond his ability to manage.

The knock on his door pulled him from his thoughts.

"Enter," he called out, not turning from the window.

Luke stepped into the office and closed the door quietly behind him. He stood respectfully, waiting for Garrett to acknowledge him properly. The beta was perceptive enough to understand that his alpha was troubled about something.

After a long moment, Garrett turned from the window to face his beta.

"Luke," he said simply. "I need your perspective on something."

"Yes, Alpha," Luke responded, his expression shifting into the focused awareness of someone about to be asked something important.

"You’ve been observing the Blackwood alphas since they arrived," Garrett continued, moving around his desk to lean against it casually. But his posture belied the casualness, his entire frame was tense, focused. "You’ve been watching how they move through the compound. How they interact with our people. How they behave during the formal events."

"Yes, Alpha," Luke confirmed.

"What have you noticed?" Garrett asked directly. "About them. About the way they’ve been acting. And most importantly....about Lilith."

Luke took a breath. The question was delicate. Speaking about an alpha’s intentions, especially alphas as powerful as the Blackwoods, required careful navigation. But Garrett was asking him directly, and that meant the alpha wanted honesty, not political convenience.

"Alpha," Luke began, choosing his words with precision, "I’ve noticed a great deal."

He moved closer, his voice dropping to match the privacy of the space.

"The day they arrived," Luke continued, "when they entered the courtyard. Alpha Lucian’s reaction wasn’t normal. The moment he stepped his foots on the compound, his entire body went rigid. That growl, that wasn’t loss of control, Alpha. That was recognition."

Garrett nodded slowly, encouraging his beta to continue.

"Every warrior heard it," Luke said. "Every alpha in the courtyard understood what it meant. It was a message. A territorial declaration."

"Go on," Garrett said quietly.

"During the breakfast service," Luke continued, "I was near the Blackwood quarters when she arrived. I watched through the doorway. The way they positioned themselves around her. The way their eyes tracked her every movement. It was like she was the only thing in the room that mattered. And Alpha, they were communicating. Through the mindlink, I assume. Their attention would shift between each other and back to her. It was coordinated. Deliberate."

Luke paused, gathering his thoughts.

"What happened with Kieran in the dining hall," he said slowly, "that wasn’t random either. Alpha Lucian’s growl. Alpha Nicholas’s threat. That was calculated. Perfectly executed political maneuvering. Alpha Nicholas made it sound like he was concerned about pack safety, but what he was really doing was marking territory. He was sending a message to every alpha in that room: this omega belongs to us."

Garrett’s jaw clenched as Luke spoke.

"Her responses," Luke continued, "are what concern me most, Alpha. Because she’s not frightened. Not truly. She’s confused. She’s flustered. But she’s not resisting. When they request her specifically to serve...she goes. When Alpha Sebastian calls her to his side, she goes. When Alpha Nicholas summons her to talk to her during the ceremony, she goes. And she doesn’t go like she’s being forced. She goes like she’s... anticipating something."

The word hung in the air between them.

"Anticipating," Garrett repeated quietly.
