Chapter 1042: BLINDSIDED (2)

"Y-YOUR IMPERIAL MAJESTY, please do something about this!"

Nero looked at Melvin Luchessi, and then at Sanford Devon, Alucard Dionisio, and Raku. "Is there anyone here who’s confident that they can stop Neoma from going berserk?"

Everyone avoided his gaze.

Nero then looked at Melvin Luchessi, smiling triumphantly. "What do you want me to do when my dear twin sister is about to go on a rampage?"

Yeah, the palace was about to collapse from non-stop shaking due to Neoma’s rage.

"Well, I expect you to stop Her Royal Highness from destroying the palace, sire!" Melvin Luchessi said, almost crying, as all the glasses in the office kept shattering one by one. Even the paintings hanging on the wall had already fallen down. "Princess Neoma calms you down when you go crazy. Can’t you do the same this time?!"

"No, I can’t."

"Why not?!"

"Neoma doesn’t love me as much as I love her," Nero said, shrugging. "Neoma’s presence calms me down because of my overflowing love for her, but I don’t have that kind of effect on my dear twin sister. In fact, Neoma will probably get more annoyed if I come and stop her from wrecking havoc."

"You sound proud, sire."

"No, I’m crying inside because my love for Neoma is unrequited."

Melvin Luchessi glared at Nero, and it made him chuckle.

Talking nonsense brought his Chamberlain back to his senses.

Good.

"If you’ve snapped out of it, then proceed with the evacuation."

There were many civilians working in the palace, and most of them didn’t have Mana or magical items to protect themselves from the falling debris.

Neoma would hate it if she found out later that her rampage caused harm to innocent people.

Hence, he wanted to prevent that from happening.

"I’ve already done that as soon as the shaking began, sire," Melvin Luchessi answered. "My chief of staff led the evacuation. I’ve also mobilized the Imperial Knights to make sure that no one gets hurt."

Right.

Melvin Luchessi, as the Imperial Chamberlain, had a team of competent secretaries working for him.

Of course, Melvin is the most competent of all.

"But we don’t have access to the Roxana Palace."

It was the empress’s palace that his parents were currently using as their residence.

Only the Imperial Family has access to Roxana Palace since my parents hate to be disturbed.

The servants were only allowed to clean and do maintenance work at certain hours.

"Duchess Quinzel was summoned by Their Majesties to their palace earlier, sire."

And Hanna Quinzel was there, too.

Nero was worried, of course.

However...

"They’ll be fine," Nero said confidently. "Mother, Father, and Hanna— I mean, Duchess Quinzel can protect themselves. Just focus on evacuating the civilians."

"Yes, sire. Ah, we also don’t have access to the palace wing that the Silver Foxes are currently using as their living quarters. Miss Dahlia is there."

"Again?"

"The Silver Foxes keep asking Miss Dahlia to replay the ’memory archive’ for them again and again, like they’re trying to dissect whether each memory is fabricated or not."

"Those Silver Foxes don’t trust anyone, huh?"

"They particularly don’t trust the de Moonasterios."

Nero shot Melvin Luchessi a cold look, and Melvin Luchessi just avoided his gaze.

Anyway, the shaking finally stopped.

But he could still feel Neoma’s Mana running wild.

She’s still mad, huh? I wonder what kind of news Commander Solfrid’s subordinates have brought to make my dear twin sister this angry.

"There are only three things that can make Neoma this angry," Nero said while leaning against his chair. First, if our family is in danger. Second, if her ’children’ are in danger. Third, if children in general are in danger. She hates it when kids are involved in affairs they shouldn’t be."

"You forgot one thing that makes Her Royal Highness really, really mad, sire."

"What?"

"If Commander Ruto Solfrid gets hurt—"

"Shut up."

"Yes, sire."

Nero was about to scold Melvin Luchessi more for bringing up Commander Ruto Solfrd and ruining his mood, but he stopped when small bubbles appeared out of thin air.

His knights suddenly became alert, but he raised his hand to stop them from making a move.

"It’s okay," Nero said, looking at the bubbles that started to take the form of a small dolphin. "It’s just a message from Dahlia."

"PRINCESS Neoma, there are civilians in the palace."

Ah.

Hearing that from Lewis helped Neoma calm down.

Yeah, I don’t want to accidentally hurt innocent people.

She controlled her Mana as much as she could.

Her efforts caused the shaking to stop, but her Mana was still fluctuating.

That was the best she could do at the moment.

"P-Princess Neoma, we brought a recorded message from Captain Ruto," Aspen, the son of the God of Booze, said with shaking pupils as if Neoma still terrified him. "There’s no communication device that works in the Upper World, so our boss could only record a message for you, ma’am."

Ah.

Tsk.

I should have asked Trevor to make a communication device that works in the Upper World.

"Alright," Neoma said, sitting down on the sofa while crossing her arms and legs. And then she slightly nudged her chin in Aspen’s direction. "Play it."

"Yes, ma’am."

Aspen immediately took out a small crystal ball from his pocket. "Princess Neoma, I need to smash this..."

"Go ahead."

Aspen nodded politely, and then he threw the crystal ball at the wall across from Neoma— creating a small crater because of the impact.

And then the wall turned into a projector.

Ruto’s face immediately occupied the ’screen.’

"Neoma, I’ll get straight to the point and keep it short since there are many eyes watching me right now. But Helstor is insisting on changing the rule when picking your Battle Representatives. Instead of choosing your own representatives, he wants to leave it up to ’luck.’"

"Why the fuck is that old scumbag suddenly sprouting bullshit?"

Aspen, Esther, and Faust all flinched because of Neoma’s string of curses.

Only Lewis remained indifferent, since her ’son’ was already used to her foul mouth.

"He also insisted that we should have a priest or a priestess on each side, and he strongly suggested that you bring Prince Skylus and Princess Monik to the Upper World."

"Ah, that fucking asshole had lost his damned mind, huh? No, actually, Helstor had probably gone senile a long time ago. Maybe he’ll come to his senses if I smash his head and make his brain spill on the concrete."

Once again, Aspen, Esther, and Faust flinched.

"I’m not sure how Helstor will be able to change the rules, but he sounds confident. So, be extra vigilant for now, Neoma. I’ll contact you again once I get some answers from that bastard."

Aspen, Esther, and Faust gasped when Ruto cursed.

Well, to be fair, Ruto rarely cursed.

Wait.

I hope they don’t think that my foul mouth is rubbing off on Ruto.

Anyway, it seemed like the recorded message would end there.

But...

"Ah, before I go..."

Neoma raised an eyebrow, anticipating what else her man had to say.

"I miss you, Neoma."

Aigoo.

Neoma smiled widely— ignoring Lewis’ scoff, and the trio’s shocked faces.

She didn’t say anything else yet because she could tell that Ruto wasn’t done talking yet, and she was right.

"I can’t wait to see you again, my beloved."

Neoma laughed softly.

’Beloved’ instead of ’babe?’

"Ew."

It was Lewis who said ’ew,’ so Neoma had to pretend that she didn’t hear that.

After all, she didn’t have the heart to scold her ’son’ for dissing Ruto.

She also ignored Aspen, Esther, and Faust, who looked like they wanted to throw up because they couldn’t believe that their stoic captain could act like a lovesick fool.

But Neoma knew why the usually indifferent Ruto was acting that way.

Ruto is probably nervous that my heart might get swayed by others.

Which was a stupid worry, but cute nonetheless.

"I’m really going now, babe. See you soon."

"Yeah," Neoma answered, even though she knew she was talking to a recorded message. "See you later, babe."

And, just like that, the call finally ended.

Ah, I miss Ruto even more now.

Unfortunately, she didn’t have time to dwell on that.

As usual, she had to put work first.

"Aside from the recorded message, is there anything else you need to report or give to me?" Neoma asked Ruto’s subordinates, who were now standing in front of her politely. "I’m sure Ruto wouldn’t send you here just to send me a recorded message."

Of course, the recorded message was important.

But Ruto wouldn’t use a demigod, a Snakewoman, and a rare half-elf and half-fairy as mere messengers.

My man is smarter than that.

"We are here to drive away any potential suitors, Princess Neoma," Faust said, his eyes sparkling. "Captain Ruto told us to kill— er, get rid of any man who shows a romantic interest in you."

Lewis scoffed again.

This time, Neoma agreed with her son’s reaction. "When did Ruto become so small-minded?"

"No, it’s not like that, Princess Neoma. This kid simplified Captain Ruto’s instruction way too much," Esther said, glaring at Faust, who quickly avoided her gaze. And then Esther looked at Neoma with an apologetic smile on her face. "Your Imperial Highness, Noah— the Ancient Devil— seems to be making his move again."

Ah, the Ancient Devil who was using Noah Solfrid’s body.

Neoma tilted her head to one side when she remembered the problem about the Ancient Devil. "That bastard claims to be madly in love with me, right?"
