Chapter 810: Chapter 795: Robbery on the Way (Part 7)
Wang Zhongyu felt that Luo Baocun’s character was quite trustworthy. It wasn’t hard to see from the expressions of grief and indignation he displayed while recounting the bandits causing his companion’s tragic death. This man was definitely a straightforward and loyal fellow, so Wang Zhongyu believed that bringing him back to the villa shouldn’t cause any trouble for everyone.
Anyway, he had reported this matter to Old Liu, and since he had received approval, the decision was basically settled.
"How are things, Xiao Wang? Did you arrange something for the people below?" Wen Quanxin saw the eccentric Wang Zhongyu finishing a call on the hand-held radio and walking toward him, so he quickly asked.
Wang Zhongyu was in a good mood, waved cheerfully to the two inside the car, and said, "Nothing at all, we’re now heading back home!"
"Damn, really? Then why cause us trouble for a whole night?" Wen Quanxin rolled his eyes, grabbed the remaining half-bag of Xiao Liu’s sunflower seeds, and leaped off the car.
Wang Zhongyu sized up Wen Quanxin, who was dusting off his pants, and asked inexplicably, "Why are you so excited to jump down?"
"Why! Of course, to help you watch the road, kid!" Wen Quanxin replied as if it was a matter of course, now feeling fearful every time he thought of the lump on his head.
"Xiao Wen, better let me go to the front. You were exhausted all night; take a good rest on the way." Through the night of communication, Luo Baocun and Wen Quanxin seemed to have become acquainted, even addressing each other warmly.
"Xiao Luo, don’t get involved in this. You don’t know this guy; he drives like he doesn’t care. I must sit in the front to help this kid watch the road; otherwise, I won’t feel at ease all the way. Just sleep in the back."
"Haha!" Luo Baocun laughed awkwardly, not speaking further.
After the snow, the initial clear sky, all white snow, the pure white world stretched endlessly, looking up, the sky blue as water was tranquil and clear, it seemed the whole world was draped in splendid silver attire, which added a poetic touch to the originally bleak countryside.
Old Xu didn’t have the mood to appreciate the wonders of nature. He parked the car on the roadside, and the camphor trees beside the road stood like white-cloaked guards, bowing in salute under the wind general’s command.
"Clatter!" Old Xu opened the rear compartment of the escort vehicle, inside Liu Fugui was resting with his eyes closed. Hearing the sound of the door, he thought they had arrived and asked, "Xu Captain, have we arrived?"
"No!" Old Xu’s tone was even colder than the weather outside, making one shiver uncontrollably. Fortunately, Liu Fugui wasn’t an ordinary person; he’s seen all kinds of stormy characters.
So, although he noticed Old Xu’s unusual demeanor, he wasn’t afraid. He cautiously nodded, waiting for further instructions.
"Get off."
"Get off?"
"Yes!" Old Xu fetched a piece of hemp rope from the car, "Sorry, Mr. Liu, I need your cooperation."
Seeing this, Liu Fugui immediately understood that they wanted to tie him up.
Thinking back, the last time he was treated like this was when he was in his twenties; at that stage, he had no power or influence, just courage. Later, by this fearless approach, which intimidated the people of Jianghu, he clawed his way to his current status.
Since then, whether in legal or underground circles, he demanded some respect. No one dared to mess with him.
Even those who had this idea likely couldn’t get close enough, let alone kidnap him.
So, though he had experienced numerous assassination attempts over the years, his men always squelched them in the bud.
Looking at the hemp rope in Old Xu’s hand, Liu Fugui bitterly smiled helplessly; he had no choice. He had to accept everything for his darling son’s life.
After binding Liu Fugui’s hands securely, Old Xu also tied a rope to control him, preventing escape in emergencies.
Once everything was settled, Old Xu managed to show courtesy, "Mr. Liu, having us in this situation isn’t what I want. Blame your subordinates. Let’s get back in the car!"
"To the front?"
"Yes!"
Once both were in the car, Old Xu restarted the vehicle and continued forward.
Huang Yong lay leisurely in the car, smoking, the car seat scattered with the shells of sunflower seeds he spat out.
Thanks to the food replenishment, his complexion improved a lot, with some redness showing on his previously ashen face.
Comparatively, Old Zhao and the others were much worse off, with the three required to kneel in the snow. Huang Yong said, "If your Old Xu arrives one minute earlier, you suffer one less minute."
The thick white snow felt soft when first kneeling, with no discomfort, prompting Tang Qiang to defiantly retort Huang Yong’s limited bullying ability.
But over time, apart from the numbness from prolonged kneeling, just the piercing cold of the melting snow seeped into their trousers, chilling to the bone, making it unbearable.
They all trembled uncontrollably, eventually their minds began to blur.
Even the subordinate monitoring them felt apprehensive, fearing the trio would freeze to death. He even approached Huang Yong to suggest letting them stand temporarily, only for the latter to send him back coldly, "Get lost, damn it! Didn’t I make myself clear enough? Their life or death depends on their own people’s response. You’ve got sympathy now, huh? Damn it!"
Denied mercilessly, Old Zhao’s group was subjected to continued suffering.
Yao Ruyi stood perched atop the escort vehicle, frequently surveying the distant horizon with the binoculars taken from the former, readying countermeasures and verification before Old Xu’s arrival.
Time flowed quickly like a narrow stream, just as Huang Yong almost lost patience and was ready to resort to violence, the hand-held radio on the seat buzzed. It was Yao Ruyi, responsible for watching the movements ahead.
"Speak, anything? Over!" Huang Yong impatiently prompted, after almost two hours of waiting his patience wore thin.
"Brother Huang, something’s coming, there’s a car approaching! Over!"
"Oh!" Hearing Yao Ruyi’s report, Huang Yong’s spirits rallied, alertly asking, "How many cars?"
"One car! Over!"
"What type of car? Over!"
"Um..." Yao Ruyi adjusted the focus, responding, "It’s a white escort vehicle! Over!"
The escort vehicle was what Xu Renjie had switched to along the way to enhance protection.
"Escort vehicle..." Huang Yong muttered the words softly, recalling that during previous transactions with the villa, they didn’t use this car.
He instructed Yao Ruyi, "Alright, keep monitoring! I’m going to confirm with Xu’s group! Over!" (to be continued. If you like this work, you’re welcome to vote for recommendations, monthly tickets, your support is my biggest motivation. Mobile users please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
