Chapter 786: Chapter 771: Outdoor Feast
Wang Zhongyu drove Wenquan Xin to dispose of the body at a construction site over ten kilometers away from the villa. Shortly after completing this task, they were informed not to return to the villa tonight. Old Xu didn’t explain the reason, just told them to find a safe place to stay for now, as they might receive a new mission later.
Considering they might need to set off for a mission at any time, looking for accommodation seemed like a thankless task—not only time-consuming and laborious, but also posing certain risks.
Moreover, from Old Xu’s tone, it seemed that the issuance of a new mission wouldn’t take long. So, the two decided to just find a usable small truck by the roadside and stay inside.
Anyway, as long as they drove the vehicle to a place with few zombies, this iron fortress should be able to withstand a small-scale zombie attack.
With the plan set and the time still early, both men, being tough guys, couldn’t stand the boredom, so they drove their new vehicle, searching for a suitable parking spot while seeing if they could gather some supplies to bring back to the villa.
Since it was just the two of them, they acted very cautiously. When choosing where to act, they were also very careful, skipping larger supermarkets and stores, slowing down only when they spotted small street shops, observing carefully before making a final decision.
Wang and Wen’s seemingly idle actions actually yielded pretty good results. Although it couldn’t compare to previous scavenging missions, at least a third of the truck was packed full. And they were all much-needed food supplies for the villa.
As it started getting dark, and with Old Xu still not sending a new action plan, to avoid the various troubles of nighttime, the two decided to stop their scavenging along the way and quickly drove back to the previously chosen parking spot.
The location of their base was very accessible, and since it used to be a cemetery, the rows of façades there had always been locked, with no businesses willing to move in.
Thinking about it, the property company that undertook this project must be extremely frustrated. However, this greatly benefited Wang and Wen.
After parking, they simply cleaned up some zombies attracted by the sound, and then nestled into the truck to start preparing their meals.
Dining out during the apocalypse is always simple; instant noodles seem to have become the primary meal choice for survivors. Although Wei Yang thoughtfully prepared rice and side dishes for them, both lazy men avoided finding accommodation, so the idea of hot meals was out of the question.
Luckily, they scavenged quite a lot of supplies today. It didn’t take Wang Zhongyu long to find a well-sealed packet of Wuxi grilled duck in a pile of randomly placed cans and boxes.
Wenquan Xin, with his sharp eyes, spotted the alluring "grilled duck" mentioned on the bag. His eyes lit up greedily as he snatched the bag and, after confirming his sight was correct, exclaimed joyfully, "Haha, Xiaowang, we’re in luck!"
Wang Zhongyu ignored Wenquan Xin’s excitement and continued searching. Shortly, he neatly placed two cups of instant noodles, two U-Loveit drinks, a bag of Lao Gan Ma peanuts, and the side dishes prepared by Wei Yang on the empty space in the truck.
"Mission accomplished!" Wang Zhongyu pointed to the items on the ground and said to Wenquan Xin, "How about it, our dinner is quite rich, right?"
Wenquan Xin laughed heartily and said, "Nonsense, of course! It’s just a pity we don’t have any alcohol!"
Wang Zhongyu smirked, blew out a breath, and said, "Pfft, come on, be content. We’re not on a vacation; even if we had alcohol, we couldn’t drink it. Here, make do with this instead."
Holding the U-Loveit cup Wang Zhongyu handed over, Wenquan Xin muttered to himself, "U-Loveit... Nima, why does this sound so familiar?"
"This is milk tea, high-end stuff, you bumpkin. Come on, give it to me!" Wang Zhongyu, not waiting for a response, snatched back the milk tea cup from Wenquan Xin, tore open the seal on top, took out the tea powder packet inside, and handed it back to Wenquan Xin, saying, "Here, go ahead, just add hot water, and you can drink it."
The latter curiously poured the hot water from the thermos into the paper cup, and soon, an enticing aroma of milk tea surged up in the heat. Wenquan Xin sniffed greedily a couple of times and laughed with a big grin, "Haha, it smells pretty good!"
"Of course!" Wang Zhongyu couldn’t help but laugh at Wenquan Xin’s silly self-indulgent look. He then took the opportunity to instruct Wenquan Xin to prepare the remaining instant noodles and milk tea, while he relaxedly leaned against the door and leisurely smoked a cigarette.
The moment the lid of the instant noodle was lifted, the unique aroma of the seasoning pack spread through the cramped cabin, making the stomach-gnawing cravings of the two men restless.
"Let’s eat!" Wang Zhongyu flicked his cigarette butt out of the car, gently closing the door in preparation for his sumptuous dinner.
Tang Xiaoquan continued to stand on the balcony, occasionally raising his binoculars to observe the factory. The guards in the guardroom were having their dinner, and from their swinging back and forth on the chairs, it seemed they were discussing something interesting.
But Tang Xiaoquan had no interest in finding that out now. It had been over half an hour since the black SUV returned to the factory, yet everything remained normal—no suspicious figures appeared, and no vehicles left carrying people.
They hadn’t even used their hand-held radios, leaving Tang Xiaoquan, whose eyes were starting to get sore from keeping watch, quite speechless.
"Xiao Tang, have a rest, come back inside and eat while it’s hot." Old Zhao, worried that Tang Xiaoquan wasn’t thinking of coming downstairs to eat and to avoid him clashing with Wang Qiang again, personally brought up a bowl of food to him.
"Oh! Uncle Zhao, look at you... You’ve brought me food, I’m really sorry!" Tang Xiaoquan quickly took the hot dish from Old Zhao’s hands, thanking him profusely!
"Haha, alright, no need to be so polite with your Uncle Zhao. If you really feel bad, come back inside and finish all this food. That way, my efforts won’t be in vain." Old Zhao smiled kindly; both Tang Xiaoquan and Qiangzi were like his children, so he felt it was his duty to take care of them during missions.
Tang Xiaoquan hurriedly gulped down a few mouthfuls of the rice and broth, praising sincerely, "Mm, Uncle Zhao, it’s delicious!"
"If you like it, eat more. If it’s not enough, I’ll go down and get more for you. Eat inside; it’s getting chilly out here."
"It’s alright, Uncle Zhao, I’m quick at eating."
"Oh, come on, what’s quick or not. Do you think your Uncle Zhao is a fool? Don’t worry, eat inside; I’ll keep watch on the factory for you!"
