Chapter 211: The blood

The hallway outside the room remained quiet after the couple left.

Only the faint sound of metal touching metal could be heard from inside the bedroom.

The doctor stood beside the massive bed while two men carefully pushed a silver medical trolley into the room.

Its wheels rolled smoothly across the polished marble floor, carrying neatly arranged instruments, medicine boxes, clean bandages, injections, and a portable monitor machine.

A maid followed quietly behind them with a bowl of warm water resting carefully in her hands. Thin steam still rose faintly from its surface.

The air inside the room slowly changed.

The scent of medicine mixed with the smell of cold night air drifting through the slightly opened window.

Roman remained motionless on the bed.

The white sheets beneath him contrasted sharply against the dried blood near his temple.

Under the dim golden light hanging above, his face looked pale too pale for someone who once carried such an overwhelming presence.

The doctor stepped closer before carefully pulling the blanket lower from Roman’s chest.

Bruises had already begun darkening beneath his damp shirt.

A deep cut rested near his shoulder.

Another along his arm.

The maid unconsciously tightened her grip around the bowl.

The young man looked terrible.

But strangely, even unconscious like this..There was still something intimidating about him.

The doctor calmly removed his gloves from the metal tray before dipping a clean cloth into the warm water.

Carefully, he brushed the wet cloth against the dried blood near Roman’s forehead.

The cloth turned red almost immediately.

The room stayed silent except for the soft rustle of fabric and the distant sound of wind moving against the curtains.

No movement came from Roman.

Only the dangerously slow rise and fall of his chest beneath the blanket reminded everyone he was still alive.

The doctor’s expression gradually deepened.

"He lost too much blood," he murmured quietly.

One of the assistants standing beside the trolley swallowed slightly before speaking.

"Will he survive?"

The doctor did not answer immediately.

Instead, he continued cleaning the blood from Roman’s hairline carefully, revealing the ugly wound hidden beneath.

The cut looked even worse now all swollen and deep.

The skin around it had already darkened faintly.

After several seconds, the doctor finally spoke.

"If he had arrived any later," he said quietly, "he would already be dead."

The maid’s eyes widened slightly.

The doctor reached toward the trolley again before picking up fresh gauze and medicine.

"Prepare the injection."

"Yes, doctor."

The assistant immediately opened one of the silver cases resting on the trolley. The sharp click echoed softly through the quiet room.

Several medical instruments gleamed beneath the light.

The doctor filled the syringe calmly before gently taking Roman’s arm.

Even unconscious, Roman’s body remained heavy and still against the mattress.

The needle slid beneath his skin carefully.

The doctor withdrew the syringe before adjusting the IV connected near Roman’s hand.

Clear fluid flowed slowly through the thin tube.

Drop.

Drop.

Drop.

The sound felt strangely loud inside the room.

The maid glanced toward Roman again.

His face remained expressionless.

Like someone standing dangerously close to the edge between life and death.

The doctor finally straightened before removing his gloves slowly.

"Monitor his breathing throughout the night," he instructed calmly. "If it worsens, call me immediately."

"Yes, doctor."

Outside the room.

The woman walked slowly beside her husband through the long corridor.

Golden lights glowed softly above them while their footsteps echoed lightly against the polished floor.

But her thoughts remained elsewhere.

On the young man upstairs.

Something about him continued bothering her.

The moment she looked at him earlier, something inside her had stirred faintly.

Like an old memory trying to rise.

The woman frowned slightly.

"Baby," she called softly.

Her husband glanced sideways at her.

"You are still thinking about him?"

She nodded slowly.

"I feel like I know him."

The older man chuckled lightly.

"You probably saw someone who looks similar."

"No..." she murmured quietly. "It’s not that."

Her brows slowly drew together.

She stopped walking.

Her husband halted too before turning toward her fully.

"What is it?"

The woman stared ahead silently for several long seconds.

Trying to remember.

Trying to catch the memory before it slipped away again.

Then suddenly faint image flashed across her mind.

A screen.

A business magazine.

Sharp cold eyes staring forward.

The memory disappeared almost instantly.

But it was enough to make her inhale sharply.

"I’ve definitely seen him before," she said immediately.

"Where?" her husband asked.

The woman pressed her fingers lightly against her temple.

"I don’t know..."

Frustration slowly crossed her face.

"It feels close."

Like the answer sat right at the edge of her mind.

But no matter how hard she tried to hold onto it

The memory kept slipping away.

Her husband stepped closer before gently touching her shoulder.

"Then stop forcing yourself."

She sighed softly before nodding.

Something about that young man upstairs refused to leave her thoughts.

Back inside the room, the doctor adjusted the blanket over Roman’s body after finishing the treatment.

The monitor machine beside the bed blinked quietly in the dim light.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

The sound filled the room softly.

One of the assistants glanced toward Roman again before lowering his voice.

"Doctor..."

"Hm?"

"Who do you think he is?"

The older man looked toward the unconscious figure lying against the massive bed.

Roman remained completely still beneath the white blanket, his face half-shadowed beneath the dim light overhead.

Even unconscious and injured he still carried an unnatural presence.

The kind difficult to ignore.

The doctor removed his glasses slowly before answering.

"I do not know."

The assistant hesitated briefly.

"But someone like him..." he said carefully, "he doesn’t feel ordinary."

"Hmm," the other maid hummed agreeing.

The room fell quiet again.

The curtains moved softly as another cold breeze entered through the window, brushing lightly through the room before disappearing into silence.

The doctor’s gaze lingered on Roman for a few seconds longer.

"Whatever kind of life this young man lived before arriving here..."

His eyes darkened faintly.

"...it is clear trouble followed him."
