Chapter 614: Glaciem Ice Abyss
Third Person’s POV
"As for those currently separated from others, you are instructed to immediately locate the nearest class, professor, or group of academy students.
Once you have gathered together, proceed directly towards the academy’s main entrance and await further instructions there.
Do not wander alone through the academy grounds."
He paused briefly, but the silence that followed was so complete that one could almost hear their own heartbeat.
Not a single student dared whisper among themselves.
Everyone waited quietly for the legendary Headmaster to continue.
"The phenomenon that has suddenly manifested within the academy is not the work of an enemy, nor is it the result of an accident.
Instead..."
A faint trace of solemnity entered his voice.
"It is the precursor to an unprecedented opportunity that only one generation out of nearly fifty generations of New Moon Magic Academy students is fortunate enough to witness."
Those words instantly caused countless hearts throughout the academy to skip a beat and then start pounding like war drums.
Even Aurelia unconsciously straightened her posture.
"The Glaciem Ice Abyss, an ancient secret realm whose gates naturally open only once every five hundred years, has awakened nearly fifty years ahead of its destined cycle.
Its entrance has resonated with the ancient formations beneath our academy and has temporarily established a spatial connection with New Moon Magic Academy.
The sudden eruption of icy elemental energy that all of you are currently experiencing is merely the aftereffect of that spatial resonance."
His words immediately explained the terrifying phenomenon that had frozen almost the entire academy within only a few minutes.
"According to the records preserved by this academy for countless generations, only mages below the Sky Realm may enter the Glaciem Ice Abyss, and anyone who has already stepped into the Sky Realm will be rejected by the realm itself.
The entrance has not yet fully stabilized, but it will completely open by noon tomorrow."
He paused once more before continuing in an even more serious tone.
"I advise every one of you to spend this remaining day thinking very carefully about whether you truly wish to enter this dangerous secret realm."
The atmosphere throughout the academy became noticeably heavier, as the young mages’ initial excitement faded at this statement.
"I deliberately use the word think because this expedition is not a simple academy trial.
It is a genuine realm expedition where death is a very real possibility.
Once you enter the Glaciem Ice Abyss, the academy will no longer possess the ability to guarantee your safety.
No professor, deacon, or academy formation will be capable of rescuing you should you encounter danger within that isolated realm."
Many students instinctively tightened their fists upon hearing those words.
Yet before fear could completely settle within their hearts, the Headmaster’s calm voice continued.
"However, within that same realm lie opportunities that countless generations of mages have pursued without success.
Ancient inheritances, forgotten magical arts, extinct herbs, rare treasures, powerful magical beasts, and fortunes capable of changing the destiny of an entire lifetime have all been recorded within the Glaciem Ice Abyss.
A single fortunate encounter inside that realm may elevate an ordinary mage to heights they previously never dared imagine."
Excitement gradually replaced much of the fear within countless students’ hearts.
"Therefore, after carefully weighing both the risks and the rewards, those who decide to participate shall report to the academy gates at exactly noon tomorrow after signing the academy’s life-and-death agreement scroll."
His tone softened slightly.
"Remember this well.
No one is under any obligation to enter the Glaciem Ice Abyss.
Choosing not to participate will not result in any reduction of your academy points, magical resources, future opportunities, or your standing within New Moon Magic Academy.
This decision belongs solely to you."
A brief silence followed before the Headmaster spoke one final time.
"That is all, young mages.
I shall see you all tomorrow."
The moment those final words faded away, the brilliant blue crystal embedded within Aurelia’s academy badge gradually lost its radiance and returned to its ordinary appearance as though nothing had happened.
For nearly two whole minutes, Aurelia remained standing exactly where she was.
Her mind repeatedly replayed every sentence the Headmaster had spoken.
The sudden appearance of the Glaciem Ice Abyss, the unimaginable opportunities hidden within it, and the terrifying danger accompanying those opportunities caused excitement, apprehension, and unease to intertwine within her heart.
However, despite the temptation of an ancient realm that appeared only once every five centuries, another matter still occupied the foremost place in her mind.
The image of that mysterious violet-haired senior resurfaced once again.
Her eyes gradually regained their determination.
Without wasting another second, Aurelia abruptly turned around and sprinted towards the district reserved for the hallowed Crystal Formation Batch, her footsteps echoing sharply across the frozen stone pathways as her desire to uncover the truth completely overwhelmed every other thought.
She ran through the long crystal-encased corridors of the academy, her footsteps echoing sharply against the frozen stone floor.
Every wall, pillar, and arched ceiling had already been swallowed beneath layers of transparent ice that glittered faintly beneath the academy’s mana lamps.
Even as the temperature continued dropping at an alarming pace and the thick icy mist steadily reduced visibility, Aurelia encountered no real difficulty.
The warmth generated by the Rank Two Molten Core Potion continued circulating throughout her body and drove away the invading cold before it could seep into her bones.
Soon, she emerged from the enormous interconnected academic complex and stepped into one of the academy’s sprawling conifer gardens.
The beautiful evergreen trees that usually swayed gently beneath falling snow had now transformed into towering sculptures of crystal ice.
Every branch, every needle-like leaf, and even the patches of grass beneath them had been completely sealed beneath transparent frost, making the entire garden resemble an exquisite work of art crafted by nature itself.
The silence surrounding the place felt unnerving.
Only a short while ago, the academy had been filled with the bustling chatter of countless young mages hurrying through the corridors after hearing the Headmaster’s announcement.
But at this place, those voices had almost completely disappeared.
