Chapter 239: Chapter 114: Incident (Part 3)

"What’s wrong with Master?"

"Look at his face. Something terrible must have happened."

The disciples in the front courtyard were all talking amongst themselves. Yang Jing frowned, his own confusion deepening.

’Whatever could make Master lose his composure like that must be serious.’

Before long, a piece of news spread through the front courtyard and reached Yang Jing’s ears.

"Did you hear? Something happened to Senior Brother Lin Yue!"

"Senior Brother Lin Yue? Hasn’t he been recovering at Jishi Medical Hall?"

"A senior brother who just came from the Inner City said someone found him in an alley there. He was already unconscious and critically injured... Both his hand and foot tendons were severed!"

"What?!" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

An uproar swept through the training grounds. Shock was written on every disciple’s face.

Lin Yue was a Core Disciple of the Martial Arts Hall and once its most promising genius. And now, his tendons had been severed...

When Yang Jing heard this, he was shaken.

’Lin Yue has been recovering at Jishi Medical Hall for months, and he’s always stayed at the hall. Why would he suddenly be in the Inner City?’

’And to have his tendons severed? That’s too ruthless.’

As he was pondering this, Qi Yun hurried over, her face etched with worry. "Junior Brother Yang, something’s happened to Junior Brother Lin. Should we go see him together?"

Yang Jing nodded.

Although his relationship with Lin Yue was mediocre—he had even kept his distance due to Lin Yue’s arrogance—they were ultimately from the same sect. Now that something like this had happened, it was only right that he go and see him.

"I’ll go too."

Zhao Wenzheng also walked over, his face a mask of astonishment, but a trace of panic was hidden in his eyes.

’He never imagined that his simple attempt to incite Lin Yue against Yang Jing would result in Lin Yue getting crippled.’

’This was a huge deviation from his plan, and it had caught him completely off guard.’

The three of them discussed it briefly. Upon learning that Lin Yue had been taken back to Jishi Medical Hall, they left the Martial Arts Hall together and headed in that direction.

Jishi Medical Hall was not far from the Martial Arts Hall, only about half an incense stick’s walk away.

The trio passed through the front hall, with its Jishi Medical Hall sign, went around the counters piled with medicinal herbs, and entered the rear courtyard.

Just as they reached the outside of the room where Lin Yue usually recuperated, they saw the door was wide open. From within, they could faintly hear suppressed sighs.

Through the open door, they could see Sun Yong standing before the bed with his hands behind his back. His posture was upright, yet it radiated a heavy air. His expression was utterly grim.

The Hall Master of Jishi Medical Hall, Zhang Dong, sat by the bedside, carefully examining the injuries of the person on the bed. His brow was tightly furrowed, and he shook his head from time to time.

Yang Jing, Qi Yun, and Zhao Wenzheng exchanged a glance, each seeing the gravity in the others’ eyes.

They tiptoed into the room and stood silently behind Sun Yong. No one spoke.

The room was filled with the thick scent of medicine, mixed with the faint smell of blood.

On the bed, Lin Yue’s face was ashen. His eyes were shut tight, his lips were chapped, and his once handsome face was now completely drained of color.

His hands and feet were wrapped in white cloth strips, through which dark red bloodstains faintly seeped. His injuries were clearly severe.

The atmosphere was so oppressive it was hard to breathe, broken only by the occasional soft sounds from Hall Master Zhang as he inspected the wounds, and Sun Yong’s heavy breathing.

Sun Yong’s gaze swept past the three behind him before finally returning to Lin Yue on the bed.

At this moment, Lin Yue’s eyes were shut, his face was pale, his lips were chapped and peeling, and his chest rose and fell faintly. If not for that shallow breath, he would be no different from a dead man.

In this state, where was even a sliver of the spirited and heroic air of the former genius disciple?

A moment later, Zhang Dong stood up. He picked up a towel from the basin beside him to wipe the blood from his hands, then shook his head at Sun Yong. His voice was heavy. "Hall Master Sun, forgive my bluntness... I’m afraid Lin Yue is completely crippled."

He paused, then continued with difficulty, "His hand and foot tendons have all been severed, and many of the major meridians and acupoints throughout his body have been shattered. Forget about practicing martial arts again; he’ll likely be bedridden for the rest of his life. Fortunately, he was found in time, so his life was saved."

CRACK.

The sharp sound came from Sun Yong’s clenched fist.

His face was so dark it looked like water could drip from it, and the very air around him seemed to freeze, becoming so oppressive it was hard to breathe.

Standing behind him, Yang Jing, Qi Yun, and Zhao Wenzheng couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath upon hearing this.

Although Lin Yue had been seriously injured before, his foundation wasn’t destroyed. With proper care, he might have been able to return to his peak.

But now... with his tendons severed and his meridians and major acupoints shattered, he wouldn’t even be able to live a stable life as an ordinary person.

For a genius of superior aptitude in whom so much hope had been placed to meet such a fate... how could one not sigh in sorrow?

Zhang Dong’s face was full of guilt. He cupped his hands toward Sun Yong and said, "Hall Master Sun, I was derelict in my duty. Last night, he said he was going out for a walk. He’s often gone out for fresh air recently, so I didn’t ask further. I never, ever imagined... that he would go to the Inner City and meet with such a disaster."

Sun Yong waved his hand dismissively, his voice hoarse. "It’s not your fault. The boy himself was reckless."

He looked at the unconscious Lin Yue on the bed, a flash of pity in his eyes, but it was overshadowed by his frustration. "I’ll have to trouble Hall Master Zhang to take good care of him. Please do whatever you can to ease his suffering."

"Rest assured, Hall Master Sun. I will do my best," Zhang Dong quickly replied.

Sun Yong’s gaze fell upon Lin Yue once more, his expression as cold as frost.

’It’s not as if I didn’t warn Lin Yue to focus on his recovery and not get involved with the six great families, especially the Xiao Family. I told him to stay far away from them.’

’But the boy just wouldn’t listen. And this morning, he was found in an alley near the Xiao Family’s estate...’

’During this time, Lin Yue must have re-established contact with the Xiao Family.’

’As for who would be so vicious as to do this to Lin Yue, Sun Yong didn’t even have to think to guess. Who else could it be but the Li Family, who had attacked Lin Yue before?’
