Chapter 274: Chapter 273: Eyes Light Up

In the quiet meeting room, the voice was jarringly abrupt.

When everyone turned to look at the speaker, they were all rendered speechless.

It wasn’t just them; even Fang Chenyi couldn’t help but chuckle.

The reason was simple: the person who had just volunteered was none other than the cleaning lady who had spoken up earlier!

Seeing everyone looking at her with smiles, the cleaning lady grew anxious and spoke with a hint of displeasure:

"What are you all looking at me like that for? The Chairman just said the position can’t be filled by an employee. And he already said before that I count as upper management. So what’s wrong with me applying for this job? You got a problem with that?"

Confronted by the woman’s retort, the crowd couldn’t help but laugh. No one took her seriously, including Fang Chenyi, who just assumed she was joking.

When the woman saw they still had the same expressions, she huffed and spoke again:

"Hmph, don’t you look down on people. I admit there are other jobs I can’t do, but this Head of Human Resources position? I can actually do it!"

Hearing this, Fang Chenyi’s interest was piqued. He smiled and asked, "You sound very confident, Auntie. Why don’t you tell us why you think you’re qualified to be the Head of Human Resources? Have you done this kind of work before?"

The woman shook her head.

"I’ve never done it before, but I really do understand it! To be honest with you, Chairman, I’m in charge of cleaning the entire human resources floor. Let’s just say I’ve learned a thing or two through osmosis!"

After a short pause, the cleaning lady patted her chest and said:

"I’ll lay it out for you, Chairman, and you can see if I’m right."

Seeing Fang Chenyi nod, the cleaning lady cleared her throat and began:

"This Human Resources department... to put it bluntly, it’s all about hiring people. And the principles of hiring? There are only a few. It doesn’t matter if you have a degree or not—if you give me money, I’ll let you in. Or, if you’re a relative or friend of a manager, as long as they put in a word for you and give me a little something, I’ll let them in too."

At this, everyone was speechless once more. Fang Chenyi, in particular, looked utterly helpless. ’It seems the Human Resources department really is the rotten apple spoiling the bunch!’

He waved his hand, cutting the cleaning lady off, and said with a wry smile:

"Auntie, if you did things that way, wouldn’t the whole corporation fall into chaos?"

He was about to say a few more words to this seemingly simple-minded cleaning lady, but he froze when he saw her give him a subtle wink.

When the cleaning lady saw that Fang Chenyi had noticed her wink, a kind smile touched the corners of her lips.

Seeing that smile, Fang Chenyi was certain the woman had indeed winked at him just now.

In a flash, he understood her intention. A warmth spread through his chest. ’This auntie might seem a bit dense, but she’s actually trying to kindly remind me of something.’

With this in mind, Fang Chenyi didn’t expose her. Instead, he continued speaking:

"Haha, my apologies, Auntie. I just remembered that I’ve already handed the company over to President Bai. That being the case, all further work will be decided by President Bai."

After speaking, he nodded to his father-in-law.

His father-in-law acknowledged him with a nod, then walked to the front. He picked up the microphone and briefly told everyone to return to their posts and calm their teams, also mentioning the matter of employee promotions. He added that the official company appointments would be announced that afternoon.

Hearing his father-in-law’s words, Fang Chenyi sighed internally. ’Ah, I’m still too young.’

’They say experience counts for everything, and it’s true. All the senior executives were just taken away by the police. The entire corporation must be in a panic right now. The most important thing isn’t to continue this meeting, but to stabilize morale and get all the employees to focus on the upcoming selection of low-level cadres in each department.’

’Looks like I still have a lot to learn.’

’Sigh, even though I now own fifteen companies, big and small, my management experience just can’t keep up...’

’But there’s nothing to be done about it. I’ll just have to find time to study and improve myself later.’

After the meeting concluded, everyone dispersed. Before long, news that leaders would be selected from among the employees had spread throughout the company. Everyone began to secretly prepare. As for the major shake-up in management, with some intentional messaging from his father-in-law, the prevailing sentiment was simply, "A new ruler brings in his own court."

The meeting was over, but the people from the auditing firm didn’t leave; they continued to seal the books and conduct their review. Having taken over the corporation, Fang Chenyi’s father-in-law also got busy. Fang Chenyi assigned Qi Xiaotian to stay by his father-in-law’s side for protection, worried that some yet-to-be-exposed individuals might get desperate.

Suddenly, Fang Chenyi found himself with nothing to do.

He casually strolled up to the top floor and looked around. He discovered that the entire vast floor had only two rooms, both of which were offices.

One was the original chairman’s office, and the other was Lu Zhisen’s.

As mentioned before, this floor originally had two rooms: one office and one conference room. However, Lu Zhisen had taken over the conference room for himself.

Fang Chenyi pushed open the door to the original chairman’s office and was immediately taken aback by its sheer size.

He had thought Lu Zhisen’s office, at over two hundred square meters, was big enough, but this office was even larger. A quick glance told him it had to be nearly five hundred square meters!

Perhaps because the former chairman had taken his personal belongings when he left, the office now felt somewhat empty.

He stepped inside and began to look around.

’Damn, there’s an indoor golf simulator on one side. Playing golf on the thirtieth floor... what a life.’

He continued wandering over to the desk near the floor-to-ceiling windows. His gaze fell upon a massive bookshelf on the side, twenty to thirty meters long and packed densely with books.

He curled his lip in disdain. ’These books are just for show, no doubt about it. Otherwise, at one book a day, it would take a lifetime to get through this shelf!’ 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

He casually picked up a book and glanced at it, and his eyes suddenly lit up.

It wasn’t because of the book’s cover or content, but because he suddenly thought of something.

He tossed the book back onto the shelf, and with a flick of his wrist, he shook out the woven bag from the leather satchel under his arm.

"Damn, if I ’pick up’ all these books, I should get at least several hundred thousand, maybe even a million!"

No sooner said than done. Fang Chenyi placed the woven bag at the foot of the bookshelf and then, with both hands, rapidly began tossing all the books from the shelves into it.

Instantly, a series of system notifications began to ring out in his mind.
