Chapter 511: Doom’s power
"It means just like I was summoned to Rukadvatta, someone summoned you to Earth, causing the Doom to become aware of your presence?" Celestia asked, overhearing my muttered words.
For a few seconds, I did not reply. My brain was trying to process the deduction I had just made, turning it over in my mind like a stone in a stream.
"Our situation is not similar. But it is true that I am not from this world," I revealed with a heavy sigh. "But that comes later. Tell us more about the Doom."
She gave a slight nod before starting her explanation, her posture straightening. "Doom was not strong when it first appeared in Rukadvatta. It could not even materialise in the world. What it had was the power to control the minds of people with weak resolve. Doom used this power to control monsters, since their minds were easy to manipulate, causing the sudden increase in monster attacks."
Her eyebrows twitched, anger and grief suppressed in her voice as she revealed, "It used the same power to manipulate the mind of a knight, making him kill my family. Then it manipulated me into believing that the Queen had initiated the order. You know the rest..." She paused, her jaw tightening. "However, it has become stronger now, several folds beyond what it was back then."
I folded my arms and asked, my eyes locked on Celestia, "Since your soul is connected to me, you must be aware of the depth of my powers. How much stronger do you think it is compared to me?"
Her blue eyes looked at me unblinkingly, as if trying to gauge the limits of my strength. Her expression slightly hardened as she revealed, "Even if hundreds of you fought the Doom, you would not be able to put a scratch on it."
"That strong, huh?" I sighed, leaning back into the chair, the wood creaking under my weight. "Then it means that creature must be as strong as a late stage True Sage."
To face that monster, I needed to break through to the True Sage Realm. However, Earth had the limit of Late Stage Awakened Sages. Any power beyond that might harm the very world itself.
Nevertheless, it was what I needed to save the world and myself. It did not matter if it got a little harmed in the process.
We discussed a few more things about the Doom, the conversation growing darker with each revelation. From what Celestia knew of Doom and the knowledge Ume possessed about the pisach, one bizarre truth emerged about these creatures. When they reached a higher rank, they became immortal. No matter if their head was beheaded, their torso split apart, or their body turned into countless pieces, they would regenerate themselves, devouring the very death that came to claim them.
The only method to kill a higher level pisach was to use Divine Soulforce of a greater realm than theirs, or to command death itself to reduce them to oblivion. I possessed neither of those weapons.
Unlike me, Nymeria and Ume’s bodies were not split into purely human form. They both possessed Divine Soulforce, yet their cultivation base was halved. Nymeria, who was at Level Six Transcendent Realm in Vyoman, could only access the power of late stage Essence Realm here. Meanwhile, Ume’s six tail form was reduced to four tails now, making her as strong as a cultivator of the first stage of the True Sage Realm. With her level and arrays, she might be able to exchange a few moves with the Doom, but killing it was not possible.
We could have put our cards on making Ume reach the five tail form in this body, but she had already tried this method. I had my body completely split into its pure human form, making it completely independent from the one in Vyoman. However, Nymeria and Ume’s bodies were dependent on the ones in Vyoman. They could not surpass the cultivation base of their host bodies, setting their limits to Late Tier Essence stage and four tail form, no matter how much they cultivated.
"At the end, the only way to defeat the Doom was to increase my understanding of yin and yang."
The time flew quickly as we continued discussing strategies and possible plans for the Doomsday. The words flowed back and forth across the table, each idea building upon the last, each countermeasure weighed against the looming threat.
Before we knew it, the sun had already risen, its rays filtering through the window and painting the room bright. Golden light spilled across the floor, chasing away the last shadows of the night.
I had already returned to my room by the time Maa woke up.
---
I lay back on my bed, my hands resting behind my head as I said, "Vivi, show me the details of the next quest of Doomsday."
"Initialising Host’s request..."
"You have received the next quest of the series: Doomsday.
Doomsday Quest #3: A huge calamity is about to strike several parts of the earth. Reduce as many casualties as possible.
Status: Pending
Reward on completion:
The reward will be calculated according to the Host’s contribution to the quest.
Penalty on failure:
Termination of the entire series."
"Calamity? But February 20 is still two months away," I exclaimed, rising to a sitting position. "This must be the final raid by Doom to increase the Death Energy on earth, since its plan to use Celestia has failed."
While I had my eyes fixed on the system display, my phone began vibrating. I drew it out of my pocket. The screen glowed with Aryan’s name. It was his call.
Click!
"Hello, Raj," Aryan said, his voice carrying a hint of grimness, as he had just attended Riya’s funeral last night. The weight of that loss still hung heavy in every syllable. Still, there was a seriousness laced in his voice, weighing over his grief.
"Yeah, speaking," I replied.
"Father-in-law—I mean, the Chairman of the Indian Awakener Association will be calling you any time now to invite you to an international conference of top-class awakeners from every country. He might request the presence of Sister Ume and Sister Nymeria from you as well."
"Do you want me to accept his request?"
For a moment, he did not respond. I could hear him slamming his fist on the other side, as if he was feeling frustrated. The dull thud travelled through the receiver.
"From the scale of this conference, I can tell that something major is about to be revealed, something that might decide the fate of the entire earth. As your elder brother, I should be the one standing as your shield..."
His voice turned low, almost breaking as he continued, "Forgive me for being a pathetic elder brother, to ask this of his younger brother. Could you accept his request? The world is rapidly changing. The monsters coming from the gates are already beyond the capabilities of awakeners. You are currently the only one who can face the calamities coming from the—"
"Damn it, did you get possessed by a ghost or something at the funeral?" I retorted sharply on the phone, my brows furrowing in annoyance. "Come home first. I need to prepare things for your baptism."
Silence answered me. He remained too stunned to respond to my words.
I clicked my tongue as the quiet stretched on. "Now that I have revealed that I am from another world, you are already treating me like I do not belong here."
"When did I ever say th—"
"What else did your words mean? Why do you even need to request something like that from me? You are my elder brother. You just need to give me a damn order, not plead with me like a stranger requesting assistance!" My voice was louder than I expected, echoing through the walls of the room. It was the first time I had seriously raised my voice at Aryan.
"I... I am s-sorry, Raj," his voice came low and broken as he began crying. He understood that his words had truly hurt me this time. The fight in San Francisco had left a deep wound in his heart. He was afraid of losing someone close to him again, thus resorting to pleading with me over the phone, too afraid that I might reject his request even though he knew I never would.
"I am r-really a pathetic br-brother, aren’t I?" he murmured a moment later, his voice returning after several seconds of crying.
"Yet you are my elder brother," I chuckled, my voice softening. A smile tugged at my lips despite everything. "As for that conference... me and my girlfriends will definitely attend it."
As soon as I hung up the call, my phone began vibrating again. It was an unknown number, and even the ringtone was different. I already knew who the caller was.
I answered the call and said, "Good morning, Uncle Reyaan."
"Aa... Ahaha, good morning, Mr. Raj. Th-that was surprising," Reyaan’s aged voice came from the other side, a hint of surprise evident in it.
