Chapter 540: Chapter 541 Vampire Nobility [4th Update]
Wu Tian looked at them and chuckled. The little one also piped up, "Grandpas, you don’t believe it?"
The little one’s adorable appearance made the old men’s eyes light up, and their attitudes softened. Still, they didn’t yield. "That’s right, we don’t believe you."
"Even if he is the Martial God, he can kill us and take the time machine by force. But make us hand it over willingly? Impossible!"
"That’s right. It’s impossible in this lifetime. We would rather die than surrender the time machine."
Wu Tian chuckled and took out his phone. He dialed the Lord of the Four Seas’ number and spoke a few brief words. A moment later, each of the professors received a message. Their expressions changed dramatically when they saw the sender’s number. The message was written in a special code. Even if others saw it, they would have no idea what it said. The professors and doctors, however, knew. This message was from the Lord of the Four Seas, stating that he had granted Wu Tian priority access.
"So, how about it now?" Wu Tian asked with a faint smile.
The professors and doctors exchanged glances before obediently stepping aside, just as Wu Tian had predicted.
Wu Tian immediately stored the time machine in his Nine Dragon Ring.
"The Head of State values you greatly," Professor Zheng said, approaching him with a happy expression. "In that case, there should be no problem with handing the King of Poppies over to you."
Wu Tian nodded. Professor Zheng led him to another secret chamber where most of the items stored were plant seeds.
"Thank you," Wu Tian said. He was a man who clearly distinguished between favors and grudges; to him, things were black and white.
"Martial God, there’s no need for thanks," Professor Zheng said. "Things should be put to their best use. A treasured sword for a hero, a great beauty for a champion! That is the natural order of things."
He used a special key to open a cabinet, from which he retrieved the King of Poppies.
Poppies are difficult to identify, as there are over one hundred varieties. They grow mainly in Central and Southern Europe and temperate Asia, with a few species native to the Americas, Oceania, and Southern Africa. There are several types in Dragon Country alone, and they look much like common wildflowers.
This King of Poppies, however, was different. It was more magnificent than any rose, and a single whiff of its fragrance was enough to make one’s entire body go limp.
"Here you go."
"Alright." Wu Tian was not one to hesitate. He accepted the King of Poppies and stored it in the Nine Dragon Ring.
"Excellent. I can’t stand people who dither." Seeing Wu Tian accept his gift, Professor Zheng was genuinely pleased.
"Martial God, I know you must be busy, but please have dinner with us tonight."
"Alright," Wu Tian nodded.
After he and the little one had dinner, they would return to Yang City. He planned to refine the King of Poppies into a medicine that, once consumed, would greatly enhance his Spiritual Sense and perhaps even allow him to use some Spiritual Martial Skills. He also needed to study the time machine.
「At this moment, in Europe!」
In the Iron Tower Country of France, there is a solitary island in the middle of the ocean. Aside from bats, no other animals could be seen. There was only one building on the island: the Holy Church, where a few nuns prayed day and night.
In the backyard of the Holy Church was a graveyard. It was an ordinary cemetery, but it was bound by layer after layer of iron chains. This graveyard belonged to a man named Giles.
He once served as a Marshal of France, fighting side-by-side with Saint Joan of Arc. After she was burned at the stake, he became obsessed with alchemy, hoping to find the Philosopher’s Stone within blood. To this end, he tortured and imprisoned more than 300 young boys.
It was said that the children he abducted would not survive a single night. Sometimes he would decapitate them; other times, he would slit their throats, laughing as their blood streamed out. Some claimed to have seen him kissing the foreheads of the children after they died before slicing open their internal organs. In the year 440, his crimes were exposed, and he was sent to the gallows by his own personal servants.
A prophecy once foretold that this Vampire would one day rise from his grave. For this reason, nuns lived on the island, praying day and night for God to protect their country and suppress Giles within his tomb.
Originally, everything was normal and peaceful. But after the resurgence of Spiritual Energy, everything changed.
A black mist now occasionally seeped from the graveyard. The terrified nuns wanted to leave, but they had no means of transport. A ferry only passed by the island once a month.
Seeing the other nuns so frightened, the elderly mother superior said righteously, "Do not be afraid. God will protect us."
"Really?" the nuns whispered, still afraid.
Seeing them question God, the mother superior scolded them furiously. "What have I taught you? As long as you believe in God in your hearts, He will protect you. You don’t need to say a word; God will naturally watch over us!
"If you believe in God, you could go without food and never starve! If you believe in God, you could rush into fire, a mere mortal, and remain unharmed!"
In their hearts, the nuns didn’t believe her. They felt the God the mother superior worshipped was just a figment of her own imagination, not the true God.
At that moment, bats were hovering over the solitary island.
One of the bats, its blood-red eyes filled with anticipation, screeched, "Our king is about to be resurrected!"
The other bats cheered and shrieked in response, terrifying the nuns inside the Holy Church.
The furious mother superior stormed out of the Holy Church. Pointing at the bats, which were particularly rampant today, she shouted, "What is all this demonic screeching about? God will not spare you! He will punish—"
The swarm of bats descended in a frenzy, heading straight for the mother superior.
"Come then!" the mother superior cried, fearless. "God will protect me! His Divine Light will shield me!"
Soon, she was engulfed by the bats. By the time they flew away, all that remained was a shriveled corpse. Her blood had been completely drained. She died with her eyes wide open, unable to comprehend why the God she so devoutly worshipped hadn’t protected her in her time of need or granted her His Divine Light.
The bats ascended back into the sky, circling wildly above the solitary island.
"When will our lord truly awaken?" they chattered anxiously.
An old bat hesitated before replying, "At this rate, it should be about a month."
"No, that can’t be!" the other bats screeched in disagreement.
They were eager to dominate the world. Humans? They’ve dominated the world for far too long. It’s our turn now! Humans are the worst.
"There is one other way to awaken our king immediately," the old bat spoke gravely. "But it requires Essence Blood... the Essence Blood of a powerful human."
The bats all chattered at once. "Who is powerful enough?" "Whose Essence Blood is worthy?"
"The Martial God from Dragon Country... Wu Tian!" the old bat revealed. "His blood is certainly powerful enough. It can awaken our king ahead of schedule!"
The swarm of bats immediately flew towards Dragon Country to obtain Wu Tian’s blood. The blood of Wu Tian would awaken their king!
It would be Wu Tian’s honor!
