Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Safe and Sound
Inside the private room, Wang Lei finally found an opportunity to suck up to Zhang Cheng.
"President Zhang, it’s so considerate of you to treat our sales department to a meal at such a high-end restaurant. In the future, everyone in sales will definitely work harder and never forget your guidance. Isn’t that right, everyone?"
The group of employees immediately raised their glasses with beaming smiles, quickly chiming in with agreement.
Seeing this, Zhang Cheng nodded in satisfaction. ’This Wang Lei is pretty sharp,’ he thought.
Seeing that Zhang Cheng was in a good mood, Wang Lei continued:
"President Zhang, you are the leader and the pillar of our company! It’s Chairman Chen’s good fortune to have someone like you helping her manage the business!"
As soon as he said this, the others immediately joined in on the flattery, and Zhang Cheng was absolutely delighted to hear it.
Zhang Cheng nodded and patted Wang Lei on the shoulder.
"Wang Lei, you’re doing a great job as sales manager. I’ll be sure to promote you when the opportunity arises!"
Wang Lei felt as if he were floating on air, grinning like an eager dog.
"Thank you for your high regard, President Zhang! I will serve you with utmost loyalty, no matter the cost!"
Seeing that everyone had more or less eaten and drunk their fill, Zhang Cheng stood up.
"Alright, everyone’s had plenty to eat today. Let’s call it a night and get some rest!"
Everyone nodded. Just as they were about to leave the private room, Han Zilin suddenly blocked the way.
"Wait, Brother Tu isn’t back yet! Let’s wait for him!"
"Wait for that kid? He’s probably a corpse by now!"
"Exactly. If he was coming back, he would’ve been back long ago. Why would he be delayed for so long?"
The crowd instantly erupted in jeers and sarcasm, and Wang Lei added his own cynical remarks from the side.
"That kid doesn’t know what’s good for him, daring to take on so many people by himself. He’s probably been hacked to death by now!"
Hearing this, Han Zilin’s face turned deathly pale, and she was so anxious she was on the verge of tears.
Zhou Kexin quickly tried to comfort her.
"Zilin, don’t overthink it. Maybe Qin Tuo already went home on his own?"
At this, a glimmer of hope appeared in Han Zilin’s eyes, and she finally felt a little better.
But Zhang Cheng sneered inwardly.
’Heh, go back? That kid probably won’t be going back for the rest of his life!’
Just then, Qin Tuo actually returned.
The moment he appeared, everyone was stunned.
Han Zilin was overjoyed and rushed over to him.
"Brother Tu, what on earth just happened? I was worried sick about you!"
Qin Tuo patted the young woman’s head.
"Don’t worry, I’m perfectly fine. I always keep my promises."
Nearby, Zhang Cheng stood dumbfounded, his heart pounding.
’Damn it, what happened? The Cyan Fire Gang actually didn’t take him out? How is that possible?’
Looking at Qin Tuo, who was full of life, Zhang Cheng subconsciously asked:
"Qin Tuo, how did you get back?"
Qin Tuo chuckled and retorted:
"What, you don’t seem very happy to see me back?"
Zhang Cheng panicked and quickly explained:
"No, I was just worried something might have happened to you!"
Qin Tuo said mockingly:
"Oh, it seems President Zhang really was concerned for my safety. But when they were dragging me away just now, you seemed to be sitting there, still as a mountain, and didn’t say a word to plead my case."
Those few words left Zhang Cheng looking incredibly awkward, unsure of what to say.
He was also very worried...
’Damn it, he couldn’t possibly know everything, could he?’
Seeing Qin Tuo’s disrespectful tone toward Zhang Cheng, Wang Lei immediately jeered:
"Qin Tuo, you’re back too late. We’ve already finished all the food. There are only some scraps and leftovers. If you don’t mind, go ahead and eat them. Don’t worry, no one will laugh at you!"
Instantly, everyone else joined in the laughter.
It was as if these scraps were a heavenly gift for a country bumpkin like Qin Tuo.
Qin Tuo shot Wang Lei a cold glance.
"What, does your face not hurt anymore?"
One look from Qin Tuo was enough to make Wang Lei jump back in fright.
He couldn’t help it; he was genuinely afraid that Qin Tuo would slap him again!
Seeing how arrogant Qin Tuo was, scaring even Wang Lei witless, the crowd was angry but dared not speak out.
Han Zilin asked with thoughtful concern:
"Brother Tu, you must be hungry, right? Why don’t we go get something to eat outside?"
Qin Tuo saw right through Han Zilin’s intentions and smiled.
"Silly girl, you didn’t get to eat much either, did you?"
Han Zilin blushed and lowered her head.
"Brother Tu, I was too worried about you to eat anything."
Qin Tuo nodded.
"Alright then. We’ll go out for a late-night snack later. My treat. We’ll have crayfish."
"Yay, crayfish! My favorite!"
Han Zilin’s face lit up with a brilliant smile.
Watching the intimate interaction between Qin Tuo and Han Zilin, Zhou Kexin felt a pang of jealousy.
The group left the private room and arrived at the entrance of Jinghua Garden.
Just then, Zhang Cheng waved his hand.
"You all head back first. I have something to take care of."
Qin Tuo happened to be walking over and heard this. He asked with a smile:
"What is it you need to take care of, President Zhang? Do you need my help?"
Zhang Cheng’s expression looked a bit unnatural. He said casually:
"It’s nothing, just a personal matter. You guys go on ahead!"
With that, he quickly turned and went back into Jinghua Garden.
One of the employees went to get the car, while the others waited.
Wang Lei suddenly glanced at Qin Tuo and mocked him in front of everyone:
"Qin Tuo, didn’t you say you came in a Rolls-Royce? Why don’t you call it over and let us broaden our horizons!"
The others also joined in the jeering.
"Yeah, let us see what a Rolls-Royce looks like!"
"Heh, a ’friend’? More like a friend he made up out of thin air!"
Hearing their words, Qin Tuo asked with a deadpan expression:
"Why should I show you?"
Wang Lei was furious, and the crowd chimed in, backing him up.
"Oh ho, sounds like someone has a guilty conscience and is afraid of being exposed!"
"Goes without saying. If he really had a friend like that, he’d be so smug his nose would be in the air. He wouldn’t be so low-key."
Seeing Qin Tuo being bullied, Han Zilin was furious, but she didn’t know how to refute them.
Just then, a black Rolls-Royce slowly pulled up, stopping right in front of Qin Tuo.
Han Zilin’s face immediately lit up with excitement.
"I recognize it! That’s the Rolls-Royce! I told you Brother Tu wasn’t lying, but you wouldn’t believe me!"
Everyone was dumbfounded. ’So this guy really does get picked up by a Rolls-Royce?’
Qin Tuo was also puzzled. He was worried that Long Wu’s appearance would expose his identity to everyone.
However, he saw that it was only Long Wu’s butler who got out of the car, not Long Wu himself.
It turned out that Long Wu had been worried about Qin Tuo’s safety, so he had specifically left his butler here to wait, while he himself remained out of sight.
Qin Tuo praised him inwardly.
’This Long Wu really knows how to handle things!’
Qin Tuo and Han Zilin got into the Rolls-Royce and sped away in style.
Watching the Rolls-Royce disappear, everyone just stared at each other, speechless.
