Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Chairman Chen Wants to See You

In the sales department office.

Wang Lei squatted in a corner, repeatedly sticking his fingers down his throat and heaving violently.

"BLEGH..."

The sound of retching echoed intermittently.

After a good long while, Wang Lei finally caught his breath, his face a ghastly white.

"Damn brat, just you wait! I swear I’ll make you pay!"

Wang Lei ground his teeth in fury.

The thought of losing to Qin Tuo in front of so many of his subordinates made his stomach churn with resentment.

A few employees passing by heard Wang Lei’s retching from inside the office and hurried away, afraid of getting caught up in whatever was happening.

Suddenly, the office door opened, and someone walked in.

Without turning his head, Wang Lei said casually,

"Ke Xin, come give me a massage. I feel awful all over!"

"Wang Lei, is this how you do your job?"

The voice was cold, laced with a hint of anger.

Wang Lei jumped in fright. When he turned to look, his face grew even paler.

It wasn’t his girlfriend, Zhou Kexin. It was Chen Man Ni.

Wang Lei immediately scrambled up, stammering as he went to greet her.

"Chairman Chen, what brings you here? Why did you come to the company in person?"

It was a well-known fact that Chen Man Ni was an elusive figure who rarely made an appearance, sometimes not even showing up a few times a month.

Chen Man Ni surveyed her surroundings and sneered.

"If I didn’t come to the company soon, it would have been picked clean by someone with ulterior motives."

Wang Lei’s heart skipped a beat. He couldn’t understand why Chen Man Ni was so furious, nor did he have any idea who she was talking about.

Seeing Chen Man Ni walk toward the desk, Wang Lei quickly scurried over to pull out a chair for her.

"Has anything been happening at the company recently?"

Chen Man Ni put down her bag and asked casually.

Wang Lei quickly waved his hands, forcing a smile.

"Don’t you worry, Chairman Chen. The company is doing great!"

He was terrified that Chen Man Ni would find out about him losing the bet to Qin Tuo. That would surely give the boss a bad impression of him.

Just as he was worrying, he heard Chen Man Ni say,

"Go and get Qin Tuo for me."

Qin Tuo?

Wang Lei froze when he heard Chen Man Ni ask for Qin Tuo by name.

’In his mind, Qin Tuo was just an ordinary sales employee. How could Chairman Chen possibly know him, let alone want to see him?’

Seeing Wang Lei spacing out, Chen Man Ni snapped,

"What are you still doing standing there in a daze? Didn’t you hear me?"

Wang Lei was thoroughly frightened. Not daring to ask any questions, he just nodded and bowed obsequiously.

"Yes, Chairman Chen! I’ll go right away! Right away!"

He then scurried out of the office, carefully closing the door behind him.

Meanwhile, Qin Tuo finished his meal in the cafeteria and returned to the sales department.

The moment he arrived, he noticed something was off.

The entire sales department was in an uproar, with everyone staring at the manager’s office.

’It seems like some important person has arrived.’

Qin Tuo was about to ask someone what was going on when he ran right into Zhou Kexin.

Qin Tuo asked,

"Miss Zhou, did something happen at the company? Why is everyone gathered around watching the commotion?"

Zhou Kexin shot Qin Tuo a nasty look.

Qin Tuo had made her boyfriend, Wang Lei, drink half a bucket of water and lose face in front of everyone.

Zhou Kexin loathed Qin Tuo from the bottom of her heart.

"Just go do your own work. What does this have to do with you? Mind your own damn business!"

Qin Tuo gave a helpless shrug, not bothering to argue with her.

’He knew she was still fuming over what had happened to Wang Lei.’

So, he decided to head back to his desk.

Just then, Zhou Kexin seemed to remember something and quickly called out to him.

"Oh, right. Chairman Chen is here today, and she came specifically to our sales department. You’d better not say anything stupid later, or you’ll offend her and drag our entire department down with you."

’Qin Tuo is such a jinx,’ Zhou Kexin thought. ’Ever since he showed up, nothing good has happened.’ She felt she had to warn him, just in case he did something stupid and got the whole department punished along with him.

"What, Chen Man Ni is here?"

Qin Tuo, however, looked utterly shocked, his expression changing in an instant.

Zhou Kexin sneered.

"That’s right. Chairman Chen is hailed as one of the Three Golden Flowers of Ming City. You might even be lucky enough to get a glimpse of her renowned beauty!"

However, Qin Tuo seemed not to have heard her; his mind was in turmoil.

’Not long ago, Chen Man Ni had called him, furious, asking where he was.’

’He’d told her he was at home. If she caught him here now...’

’...The consequences were something Qin Tuo didn’t even dare to imagine.’

"No, I can’t stay here. I have to leave right now."

With that, Qin Tuo immediately turned to leave.

Zhou Kexin hadn’t expected him to suddenly try and bolt. She called out loudly,

"Qin Tuo, where do you think you’re going?"

Qin Tuo waved a hand, replying subconsciously,

"I have to go! It’ll be a disaster if Chen Man Ni finds me here!"

Hearing this, Zhou Kexin burst into mocking laughter.

"Qin Tuo, you’re really full of yourself, aren’t you? You think a major figure like Chairman Chen would even know a nobody like you?"

A group of sales employees nearby also joined in the ridicule.

"Qin Tuo, I think you’re getting a little too into your role-playing. Chairman Chen is in a completely different world from you. Why would she know you?"

"Haha, his act is so convincing, I almost believed him!"

Qin Tuo had no time to deal with them. He knew he had to leave immediately, or his cover would be blown.

Just then, Wang Lei emerged, his face grim.

Wang Lei ran right into Qin Tuo and instantly ground his teeth in hatred.

"Qin Tuo, Chairman Chen is in the office. She’s asking for you by name!"

A pained, helpless expression appeared on Qin Tuo’s face.

Everyone around was stunned, and Zhou Kexin, in particular, looked completely incredulous.

"Oh my god, how could the high and mighty Chairman Chen possibly know a bumpkin like Qin Tuo?"

Zhou Kexin immediately grabbed Han Zilin, who was standing nearby, and asked,

"Zilin, how does Qin Tuo know Chairman Chen?"

Han Zilin shook her head, looking confused.

"I don’t know either. Brother Tu just got out of prison. He shouldn’t have had any opportunity to meet such an important person!"

Suddenly, she remembered something and quickly added,

"Oh, right! Maybe the company found out about Brother Tu volunteering to collect that bad debt, so Chairman Chen came to praise him in person?"
