Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Claiming Credit

Han Zilin didn’t ask Qin Tuo how he had managed to sign the contract.

Looking at Qin Tuo’s profile, Han Zilin felt a growing barrier between them, one that seemed impossible to overcome.

It was as if all this had only started after Qin Tuo got out of prison.

The Qin Tuo she had relied on since childhood seemed to be growing more and more mysterious.

The atmosphere was a little somber on the way, and before long, they were back at the company.

When they walked into the sales department, many of their colleagues were looking at them with schadenfreude.

"Look, that punk Qin Tuo is back. From the looks of it, he must have botched the contract negotiations!"

Someone couldn’t help but snicker under their breath.

Qin Tuo and Han Zilin paid them no mind and returned to their desks.

They hadn’t been back for long before Wang Lei showed up. Clearly, someone had snitched to him.

As soon as Wang Lei entered, he walked straight up to Qin Tuo.

"Qin Tuo, it’s not even noon and you’re already back. I take it the contract negotiations didn’t go well?"

Wang Lei asked condescendingly, a sneer in his eyes.

"Oh? And why would you think that?"

Qin Tuo asked, looking up.

Wang Lei scoffed.

"Is there even a need to ask? I can tell just by looking at you. Besides, how could you possibly have closed a deal on such an important contract so quickly?"

A nearby colleague also chimed in, eager to stir up trouble.

"Haha, cut the act, Qin Tuo. You must be thinking you’re about to get fired for messing this up. Should’ve thought twice before going against Manager Wang!"

While mocking Qin Tuo, the man was also shamelessly sucking up to Wang Lei.

Wang Lei clasped his hands behind his back, looking completely sure of his victory.

Zhou Kexin, standing beside him, also believed that Qin Tuo must have failed.

But in the next moment, without a word, Qin Tuo pulled out the freshly signed contract.

"Why don’t you take a look at this?"

Qin Tuo smiled and tossed the contract right in front of Wang Lei.

"Uh, this is..."

Wang Lei froze, shocked. He picked up the contract and examined it closely.

As he read, his expression grew darker and darker.

Zhou Kexin, utterly bewildered, craned her neck to get a look as well.

Instantly, her eyes went wide as saucers!

"No way! He actually closed the deal? How is that possible?"

Zhou Kexin couldn’t help but blurt out.

Everyone in the sales department was stunned.

They stared at Qin Tuo, their minds reeling with questions.

’This contract has been stalled for so long, and this punk Qin Tuo takes it over and signs it just like that?’

"Wait, what’s going on here?"

Suddenly, Zhou Kexin shrieked.

She had just noticed that the price on the contract was a full forty percent higher than what she had been negotiating.

"Impossible! This is absolutely impossible! Qin Tuo, did you forge a fake contract to trick us, just so the company wouldn’t fire you?"

Zhou Kexin challenged him, unable to hold back her doubt.

Wang Lei’s eyes lit up as well, and he quickly exclaimed:

"Haha, that must be it! Kid, I knew there was no way you had the ability to sign this contract so easily!"

But Qin Tuo just sneered and pointed to a corner of the contract.

"Are you two blind? Or can you not see the Qingmei Company’s official seal right here?"

The two of them were rendered speechless.

Qin Tuo’s words were another harsh slap to their faces.

Seeing Wang Lei fall silent, Qin Tuo smiled and retorted:

"So, I guess I’m not getting fired today, am I?"

Wang Lei’s face turned ugly. He snorted coldly.

"What are you so smug about, Qin Tuo? This is only because of all the hard work we put in for the last two months. How else could you have succeeded so easily?"

Hearing this, Zhou Kexin’s eyes lit up, and she nodded emphatically.

"Exactly! You just got lucky and picked up the scraps, Qin Tuo. What’s so amazing about that?"

All the other employees in the sales department nodded in agreement with Zhou Kexin, and one by one, they started making snide remarks at Qin Tuo again.

Qin Tuo couldn’t be bothered to argue with them. He yawned and said:

"Well, since I’m not getting fired today, I’m going to get back to work."

With that, he sauntered back to his desk and got back to work.

Seeing Qin Tuo’s nonchalant attitude, Wang Lei was practically boiling with rage.

But there was nothing he could do. At the end of the day, Qin Tuo had signed the contract, which was a major accomplishment.

There was no way Manager Wang could fire Qin Tuo now.

"Let’s go!"

Wang Lei stormed off.

After leaving the office, Wang Lei couldn’t help but curse.

"Damn it, that brat is getting more and more obnoxious! He’s getting way too cocky right in front of me!"

Seeing him fuming, Zhou Kexin had other thoughts.

She said pensively:

"Wang Lei, now that this contract is signed, you’re the sales manager. You must be getting a huge commission from this!"

Wang Lei’s eyes lit up at the thought.

"You’re right! At the very least, I’ll be able to make a killing off this. That income is the real deal!"

At this thought, he could no longer contain his excitement. He quickly grabbed the contract and decided to go ask Zhang Cheng how much of a commission he could expect.

His mind began to race. ’Maybe President Zhang will be so pleased he’ll promote me straight to Vice President!’

Wang Lei excitedly rushed to the general manager’s office.

But as soon as he walked in, he found Zhang Cheng looking absolutely furious.

Wang Lei’s heart sank. He immediately realized President Zhang must have run into some trouble.

So, he put on a sycophantic smile and said:

"President Zhang, I have some good news that should cheer you up!"

Zhang Cheng snapped irritably:

"What is it? Spit it out!"

Wang Lei said with a wide grin:

"President Zhang, that contract with Qingmei Company, the one that’s been stalled for so long? Well, it’s finally been signed..."

He was about to continue, but Zhang Cheng cut him off with a roar.

"Shut the hell up! Get out! Get the hell out of my office! I can’t stand the sight of you!"

The tirade left Wang Lei completely stunned.

Then, Zhang Cheng angrily shoved Wang Lei out of the room.

’Even as he was being thrown out the door, Wang Lei still couldn’t figure out what on earth had just happened.’

He was on the verge of tears. He had thought that reporting the signed contract would please President Zhang, and he could ask about his commission while he was at it. He never imagined he would end up offending his own boss instead.

From inside the office, Zhang Cheng’s furious roars continued to echo!

As it turned out, Zhang Cheng already knew the contract had been signed.

He had just gotten off the phone with Zheng Lin, who had informed him of the situation.

During the call, Zheng Lin had chewed him out completely!

’He was already fuming about it. For Wang Lei to come looking for praise at a time like this... wasn’t he just asking for a verbal beatdown?’

Wang Lei slunk out of the office, crestfallen. Zhou Kexin immediately rushed over to ask about the commission.

Wang Lei spat on the ground irritably:

"Don’t even talk about it. I don’t know what got into that bastard Zhang, but we’ll have to ask again some other time!"
