Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Who’s the Single Dog?
Everyone nodded at his words. That sounded far more reasonable.
However, Chen Man Ni gave a cold laugh, her eyes boring into Xu Min.
"I saw everything that just happened with my own two eyes. Are you saying my father’s recovery was a lie, too?"
Her intimidating presence instantly made Xu Min shrink back, too scared to say another word.
Now, everyone was certain. Qin Tuo really had saved Chen Wenxiong’s life.
The situation devolved into a tense stalemate.
It was clear Chen Man Ni was dead set on protecting Qin Tuo.
Zhao Tiancheng’s expression was grim and unsettled, his heart churning with turmoil.
The Zhao Family held some sway in Ming City, but they were a far cry from the Chen Family.
If they earned the Chen Family’s enmity, life would become very difficult for the Zhao Family.
At this thought, Zhao Tiancheng asked resentfully.
"Miss Chen, may I ask if this is your decision, or Mr. Chen’s?"
He had to be sure. The distinction was crucial.
If this was Chen Wenxiong’s decision, then there was nothing Zhao Tiancheng could do.
But if this was just the girl’s stubborn whim, then Zhao Tiancheng would never let Qin Tuo off the hook.
All eyes turned to Chen Man Ni, awaiting her answer.
Chen Man Ni shook her head, her expression firm.
"Whether this is my decision or my father’s, Qin Tuo... is under the Chen Family’s protection. That is final!"
Zhao Tiancheng’s face contorted with rage, and he gritted his teeth.
He let out a cold snort and pulled out his phone to call and ask himself.
BEEP... BEEP...
The phone rang and rang, but no one answered.
"Damn it!"
Zhao Tiancheng cursed under his breath.
’How could I not see it?’ Chen Wenxiong was deliberately avoiding him, letting his daughter handle the matter alone to give the Zhao Family one last chance to save face.
Chen Wenxiong’s stance was now crystal clear: he would protect Qin Tuo at all costs.
Knowing the situation had blown up, many of the guests had already begun to quietly slip away.
Zhao Peng clutched his broken leg, still groaning in pain, his eyes filled with venomous hatred.
Qin Tuo, meanwhile, remained perfectly calm from start to finish, sipping his tea as if he were a mere bystander.
"Mr. Zhao?"
After a moment, Chen Man Ni prompted him with a raised eyebrow.
Zhao Tiancheng took three deep breaths, doing his best to compose himself.
"Everyone, listen... The engagement party is canceled. To all the guests who came today, my Zhao Family has wronged you!"
Zhao Tiancheng finished speaking, his face a mask of shame and indignation.
With this, the Zhao Family’s reputation throughout Ming City was utterly ruined.
The guests exchanged glances, then began to file out one after another.
At some point, Qin Tuo’s former classmates had vanished from the crowd without a trace.
"Dad! You can’t do this! How can the Zhao Family let this bastard walk all over us like this?"
Zhao Peng cried out in desperation.
The thought of his engagement party being canceled made him panic. How could he ever show his face in Ming City again?
Zhao Tiancheng’s expression was a mask of tormented resentment. He truly had no other choice!
"Son, we’re leaving!"
Zhao Tiancheng gave a weary wave of his hand.
The group of Martial Artists exchanged glances before helping Zhao Peng up and slowly departing.
"I’ll remember you, young man!"
Zhao Tiancheng said coldly before he left, giving Qin Tuo one last, profound look.
Qin Tuo merely gave a cold smirk, paying him no mind.
Just then, Xu Min’s mother, Zhang Yinhuan, burst from the crowd and grabbed Zhao Tiancheng’s arm.
"Mr. Zhao, you can’t cancel the engagement party! How can you let this brat ruin this wonderful occasion for our two families?"
She was frantic. Her daughter had been on the verge of marrying into a life of luxury, and Qin Tuo had ruined it all.
In her heart, Zhang Yinhuan wished Qin Tuo were dead.
"Get the hell off me, you wretched woman!"
Irritated beyond measure, Zhao Tiancheng violently shoved Zhang Yinhuan to the ground with a curse.
Then he and his men departed, seething with resentment.
"Mr. Qin, are you all right? They didn’t do anything to you, did they?"
Chen Man Ni asked with concern.
Qin Tuo shook his head in thanks.
"I’m fine. Thank you, Miss Chen."
Even if Chen Man Ni hadn’t come, Qin Tuo wouldn’t have been in any trouble.
Still, he appreciated the Chen Family for stepping forward and making their stance clear.
Just then, Zhang Yinhuan scrambled up from the floor, her hair a disheveled mess, and charged toward them like a madwoman.
"Qin Tuo, you bastard! You’re the one who ruined my plans! My daughter’s lifelong happiness—can you possibly pay for that?"
Chen Man Ni’s brows furrowed slightly. She was about to step in and teach Zhang Yinhuan a lesson.
Just then, Xu Min ran in, her eyes red and swollen.
She had just chased after Zhao Peng to beg him not to leave, and it was clear she had been viciously rebuked.
Now, seeing Qin Tuo again, Xu Min’s eyes radiated with a thick hatred.
"You... Qin! Just because you can’t be happy, you have to come and ruin my life? I finally found a good man like Zhao Peng. Why did you have to deliberately destroy it all and stop me from being happy?!"
"Qin Tuo, I hate you! I will hate you for the rest of my life!"
Qin Tuo’s expression was impassive as he shook his head.
"I told you. If I came to the engagement party, it wouldn’t proceed. You’re the one who didn’t believe me, the one who forced my hand."
"Qin Tuo, you..."
Xu Min was so furious she was left speechless.
Nearby, Zhang Yinhuan planted her hands on her hips and spat out a vicious curse.
"You brat with the surname Qin, you kept my daughter from marrying into wealth! I curse you to never find anyone, to be a lonely dog your whole life, and to die miserable and alone!"
Qin Tuo gave a cold laugh and turned his head, not wanting to even look at her ugly expression.
Seeing that Qin Tuo was ignoring her, Xu Min became even more worked up.
"Don’t you worry, Qin Tuo. I will still fight to marry Young Master Zhao! And you? You’ll spend your whole life as a pathetic nobody that no one wants."
"A man like you, with no background, no money, and a good-for-nothing ex-con on top of it all... No woman would ever want you!"
Spitting out these venomous words, Xu Min began to cackle like a madwoman.
Qin Tuo frowned and was about to speak.
Suddenly, Chen Man Ni smiled sweetly. She walked over, looped her arm through Qin Tuo’s, and rested her head on his shoulder, looking as gentle and dependent as could be.
The sight left both Xu Min and her mother completely dumbfounded.
"Qin Tuo, what’s going on with you two?"
Xu Min cried out in shock.
Chen Man Ni beamed, a charming smile on her face as she spoke.
"You don’t need to worry about whether or not Qin Tuo can find someone. As for you... perhaps you should focus on your own marital prospects!"
"Perhaps you’ll spend the rest of your life married to a cripple!"
As she spoke, she raised her chin slightly, giving Xu Min a provocative glance.
The color instantly drained from Xu Min’s face.
Zhang Yinhuan trembled, unable to utter a single word.
They might have dared to be insolent toward Qin Tuo, but they wouldn’t dream of speaking to Chen Man Ni that way.
Seething with anger, Xu Min gritted her teeth, stomped her foot, and stormed away.
Zhang Yinhuan also turned away resentfully and scurried out of the hotel with her tail between her legs.
"Mr. Qin, shall we leave as well?"
After Xu Min and her mother had left, Chen Man Ni quickly let go of his arm and lowered her head, embarrassed.
