Chapter 475: Chapter-475
Heena chuckled softly, the sound vibrating against his chest. "Oh my god," she sighed mockingly. "Did I marry a husband, or a nagging mother-in-law? Why are you suddenly acting like one?"
Samuel pulled his head back, looking down at her with a deep, thoroughly unamused pout. "Mother-in-law, huh?"
He placed his hands on the mattress, making a show of trying to stand up and leave. But Heena just tightened her grip around his neck, effortlessly pulling him right back down against her.
"Ah, ah, ah," she teased, a playful glint in her sharp eyes. "Why are you so angry? Look at you. Right now, you look exactly like a bristled-up hedgehog. No, wait... more like an angry cat ready to pounce."
Samuel narrowed his eyes, leveling her with a flat glare. "You think I look like a cat?"
"Obviously," Heena replied smoothly, tilting her head. "Go ask anyone."
Samuel stared at her for a few more seconds, trying to maintain his strict, scolding demeanor. But looking at her pale face and that infuriatingly charming smile, his resolve completely crumbled. He let out a heavy, defeated sigh.
"I really cannot win against you, can I?" he muttered.
He shifted his weight, properly lying down beside her on the mattress. He wrapped a strong arm around her waist, gently pulling her closer until her head was resting comfortably against his chest. He held her carefully, as if she were made of fragile glass.
"Please, just take care of yourself," Samuel whispered into the dark room, his voice dropping all pretense of banter. "Don’t make me worry like this, Seera."
He pressed one more soft, lingering kiss into her hair, letting the quiet, romantic intimacy settle over them.
Heena lay quietly in his embrace for a moment. Then, she crinkled her nose.
"You smell."
Samuel instantly froze. He slowly pulled his head back, looking at her in utter disbelief.
"I literally just took a bath before coming in here," Samuel defended himself, deeply offended. "So I definitely do not smell. And secondly... I pour my heart out, we are having a perfectly romantic moment, and ’that’ is what you have to say? Really?"
Heena looked at him, her lips curling into an infuriatingly innocent smile. "What do you mean? You ’do’ smell."
Samuel froze. For a split second, he genuinely doubted his own hygiene. He discreetly shifted his chin, taking a quick sniff of his own collar. "No, I don’t," he muttered, his brow furrowing in confusion. "I smell like jasmine. I used the expensive oils."
He looked back down, catching the mischievous, triumphant glint dancing in her sharp phoenix eyes.
"Uh-huh. Really?" Samuel’s eyes narrowed playfully.
Before Heena could even brace herself, his hands darted to her sides, ruthlessly attacking her ribs.
"Ah!" Heena burst into a sudden, unrestrained fit of laughter, her cold, calculating facade completely shattering. She squirmed against the pillows, trying to push his heavy shoulders away. "Ha! Stop! Samuel, let me go!"
They wrestled playfully in the dim light for a few moments, the heavy, suffocating tension of the brain tumor and the day’s horrors temporarily banished from the room. Finally, Samuel pinned her wrists loosely above her head, both of them panting softly, quiet smiles on their faces.
He slowly released her, settling back down and gently patting her back in a soothing rhythm.
Heena looked up at him, the laughter fading from her eyes, replaced by a quiet, calculating curiosity. "So... let me ask you a question."
Samuel kept his hand moving in slow, rhythmic circles against her back. "Yes?"
"Why did you fall in love with me?"
Samuel let out a soft, breathy laugh, as if she had just asked him why the sky was blue. "Well, you could just say I fell in love with you at first sight."
Heena immediately deadpanned, rolling her eyes. She reached up and lightly smacked his chest. "Don’t speak to me like that. It’s nonsense. I was working in your house as a maid for almost two years. Are you seriously trying to tell me that you suddenly ’fell in love at first sight’ after staring at me scrub floors for two years? Don’t joke with me."
Samuel sighed, a fond, utterly defeated smile on his lips. He reached out and gently tapped the tip of her nose.
"Well," he began, his voice dropping into a low, smooth cadence, "it isn’t exactly every day that a lowly maid marches up to the young master of the house and dares to make a ruthless deal with him, is it? You could say I became... intensely curious."
He pinched her cheek lightly, his dark eyes tracing the delicate lines of her face. "And then I found out that my new ’wife’ is an incredibly expensive person. You spend absurd amounts of money every single day, and you effortlessly make every single person in the estate orbit around you and do your bidding."
Samuel’s gaze softened, stripping away all the teasing. "Watching you... it was exactly like looking at the sun. You give life, direction, and warmth to everyone around you. But the sun stays completely alone up in the sky, without a single person by its side. I looked at you, ruling everything but trusting no one, and I thought... I should let this person feel a little less lonely."
Heena stared at him, her breath hitching slightly. The sheer, terrifying accuracy of his observation pierced right through her armor. But her pragmatic, guarded nature immediately fought back.
"You know that the sun is far too hot," Heena stated, her gaze turning intensely serious. "Anyone who actually tries to stay beside it will just burn to ash and die from the heat."
Samuel didn’t flinch. He leaned down, pressing his warm cheek against her pale one.
"Yeah, I think so too," he whispered against her skin. "But so what? Let me be the fool who dies beside this sun. Even if it’s only for a few seconds before I burn, at least I would be known to the world as someone who belonged to it. And who knows? Maybe this sun, who has shone her light on everyone else... might one day decide to shine just a little bit of it on me, too."
Heena’s heart skipped a dangerous beat. She quickly turned her face away, hiding against his chest and closing her eyes tightly to mask the sudden, overwhelming swell of emotion.
"You know you are completely weird, right?" she mumbled into his shirt.
Samuel raised an eyebrow, a smile evident in his voice. "Weird? How?"
"Normally, people want to be beside the moon," Heena explained calmly, her voice muffled against him. "You see... it’s cold, it’s beautiful, and it’s safe. Why would anyone actively want to stand beside a burning sun? I think you really are a fool."
Samuel burst into a rich, deep laugh, the vibration rumbling pleasantly against Heena’s cheek.
"Well, the moon is surrounded by thousands of stars, and to be honest, it doesn’t look half as good as the sun to me," Samuel countered smoothly. "Besides... doesn’t the moon just borrow all of its light from the sun anyway? So, instead of living with someone who is just reflecting someone else’s glory, why wouldn’t I just chase after the one who creates the light?"
He wrapped both arms around her, pulling her completely flush against his body.
"So, you can call me a fool, a weirdo, or whatever else you want, Seera," Samuel whispered, burying his face into her hair. "But I am going to follow my sun."
