Chapter 418: Chapter-418

"Anyway," the grandmother continued, her eyes gleaming. "He might have been a scrawny servant, but he was incredibly handsome. He was completely perfect by my standards. So, I looked at him and thought, ’’I am going to marry this man.’’ And so, I boldly proposed to him."

She suddenly pointed an accusing finger at her blushing husband.

"And this damn bastard!" the grandmother barked. "He dared to reject me! He gave me some nonsense speech about how I was a noble lady and he was just a servant, and how he would never dare to tarnish my reputation... blah, blah, blah. My blood boiled. I was so angry! So, I gave him an ultimatum: ’Either you marry me, or you face my absolute wrath.’"

Heena leaned in, completely engrossed. "And what did he do?"

"He rejected me again!" the grandmother huffed, crossing her arms. "Now, when I was a child, my father taught me a very important rule. He said, ’’Always give a person three chances. If they still don’t agree after the third try, you are free to do whatever you want.’’ So, I decided to give him his third chance. I bought him flowers, stood in front of him, and asked him to marry me one last time."

"And?"

"He rejected me for the third time!" the grandmother shouted, slapping the table. "I was so incredibly frustrated that I completely lost my temper. I dropped the flowers, grabbed him by the back of his neck, and literally hauled him all the way to my cousin’s wedding venue! My cousin was right in the middle of getting married, but I didn’t care. I kicked the bride and groom off the altar, pointed a sword at the priest, and ordered him to start our wedding ceremony immediately!"

The grandmother sighed happily, leaning her cheek against her hand. "Of course, my parents and the rest of the family were absolutely furious, but the ceremony was finished. We were married."

Heena sat there, completely paralyzed. She slowly turned to look at her grandfather.

The towering, muscle-bound god of war—a man whose mere name made the entire capital tremble in fear—was currently sitting at the table, blushing furiously like a shy, newlywed maiden as he remembered the day his wife violently abducted him.

’God damn,’ Heena thought, her mind completely blown. ’That is what you call absolute guts.’

She turned back to look at her grandmother, literal stars of profound admiration shining in her eyes.

Heena finally managed to pick her jaw up off the floor. She slowly turned her gaze toward her grandfather, entirely fascinated by this new piece of family history.

"But Grandfather," Heena asked, tilting her head. "Were you not incredibly angry about being kidnapped and forced into a wedding at sword-point?"

Hearing that, the towering, bloodthirsty god of war literally raised a hand to cover his blushing cheek. For a fleeting, utterly bizarre second, Heena actually thought the old general looked ’cute’.

"Well," the Grandfather mumbled, avoiding his wife’s gaze. "I was definitely shocked. But... it was actually quite a good thing. You see, I had already fallen for her the very first time I saw her."

Heena blinked, completely lost. "Wait. If you already liked her, then why on earth did you reject her three times? Why didn’t you just marry her?"

The Grandfather suddenly straightened up, pointing a thick finger at his wife.

"Because," the old man explained, a sudden, profoundly cunning gleam flashing in his eyes. "If I had simply said yes the very first time, this woman would have gotten completely bored of me within two days."

The grandmother paused, her eyes narrowing as she looked at her husband.

"I used to clean her study when I was a servant," the Grandfather continued, his voice lowering into a smug, highly calculated tone. "And one day, I saw a specific phrase underlined in one of her favorite romance books. It said: ’’’Anything that is hard to get, I will fiercely love and cherish until the very end.’’’"

The old man smiled, looking incredibly proud of himself. "So, I thought about it... and I deliberately rejected her. I made sure I was the hardest thing in the world for her to get."

Heena’s mouth fell open all over again.

She sat there, absolutely paralyzed by the sheer, unadulterated brilliance of it all. She genuinely didn’t know what was more shocking: the fact that her grandfather had the absolute guts to repeatedly reject a terrifying, sword-wielding noblewoman just to secure his position, or the fact that he had successfully manipulated her into a lifetime of obsessive devotion.

’What kind of terrifying, tactical masterminds are these two?!’ Heena thought. Both of them were absolutely brilliant, crafty, and entirely unhinged in the best way possible.

Unable to hold it in a single second longer, Heena completely lost her composure. She burst into a fit of bright, ringing laughter, clutching her stomach as she practically folded over the table.

Behind her, Samuel stood entirely still.

He was staring at the Old Marquis, his dark eyes wide beneath his wooden mask. There was a look of pure, profound reverence and intense admiration radiating from his towering frame.

Heena caught a glimpse of her guard’s expression and laughed even harder. She knew exactly what Samuel was thinking. If this dangerously possessive man wasn’t currently forced to play the role of a silent, obedient shadow guard... he would have literally thrown himself at the Grandfather’s feet right then and there, aggressively begging the old man for advanced romance tutorials.

"Wait, wait, wait," Heena interrupted, holding up her hands as her mind scrambled to process the absolute insanity of her grandfather’s gamble. "If Grandmother had just given up after the second rejection... what would you have done, huh? What if she had just turned around and married someone else?!"

The Grandfather looked at her, blinking his aged, battle-scarred eyes as if the question was completely ridiculous.

"I knew this woman from the inside out," the old man said simply, a smug, deeply confident smirk on his face. "I knew her mind completely, long before she even thought of it. She was never going to give up."

The grandmother scoffed loudly, rolling her eyes, though a fond smile tugged at her lips. "Yeah, yeah. You were the crafty one, and I fell right into your trap. I suppose that is my own fault, you little fox."

Hearing the terrifying Old Marquis being affectionately called a ’’little fox’’, the Grandfather just lowered his head, accepting the pet name like a well-trained hound waiting for a pat on the head.

"Okay, so now I have another question," Heena pressed, leaning forward eagerly. "So, let me guess... after you two got married, Grandmother’s family kicked you out, right? And because you were a poor servant, you wanted to prove your worth to them. So, you joined the military and became a Marquis through sheer hard work to earn their respect?"

The Grandfather slowly shook his head.

"No, child," the grandmother interjected, looking at Heena as if she were deeply naive. "They kicked ’him’ out. Not me. I was their precious daughter! How dare they kick me out? I stood outside the estate and screamed a three-thousand-word essay at my parents until they finally caved and let him back in."

Heena was speechless.
