Chapter 556: Chapter 551: The Grand Finale (Part 1)
Lin Yuanyang sent a gift—an upgraded Smart Brain with his new program.
It does not rely on the open-source code of "Zero," and is completely another system.
But he hasn’t publicly released this system, only those he gifted the corresponding Smart Brain to can use it.
If "Zero" encounters problems, this system is Ji Ning’s back-up plan.
After Ji Ning received the new Smart Brain, she looked at it for a long time before finally storing it away.
Lin Yuanyang chose to give her this new Smart Brain at this moment to leave her a way out.
But she cannot have a way out.
The gigantic screen no longer displayed horrifying whirlpools; Ji Ning felt an energy both familiar and unknown spreading from deep within Nanling.
"Ji Ning, it’s time to go."
An aged voice suddenly sounded, and Quell Vis, with his silver hair, finally opened his eyes.
His deep blue pupils had turned gray.
Looking closely, they had lost focus.
Ji Ning turned to look at him, inputting more Healing Ability into his deteriorating body.
Over the years, Quell Vis frequently used Time Ability to explore the energy patterns in Green Star Stone.
Now, his life was like a candle flickering in the darkness, weak and wavering, ready to be snuffed out by the slightest breeze.
Because of his life-sacrificing contribution, Ji Ning had now mastered all the energy inside the Green Star Stone except the Power of Space-Time.
Her sensory range now could almost cover half the planet, something no other superpower user could achieve, yet Quell Vis was still not satisfied.
He said she was missing one crucial chance to truly become a deity, and that opportunity was near, but he couldn’t express it verbally.
Ji Ning knew that the opportunity was in that special area, and Quell Vis had already witnessed her fate.
She glanced again at Quell Vis, who seemed in the throes of a last burst of energy, and kept the words on the tip of her tongue unspoken.
"Let’s go."
Ji Ning reached out to support Quell Vis, maintaining his bodily functions with superpowers, and walked out of the tent.
Outside, rows of fully armed Superpower Warriors stood neatly in formation.
They were elite soldiers selected from major bases across Hua Continent, had already ventured deep into Pollution Zones over a hundred times with her. Most were battle-hardened, capable of a one-man army.
There were also some newly selected elites, embarking on their first missions.
Ji Ning scanned the crowd, her gaze fixed on the soldier hiding amidst them.
"Huang Ying, step out——"
Huang Ying’s heart tightened immediately, feeling she had hidden well, but she remained still until Ji Ning slowly approached her.
"Step out, this mission isn’t suitable for you."
"Report, I request to join."
"You are no longer a base warrior now."
"Report, I re-enlisted six months ago," Huang Ying stared determinedly at Ji Ning.
But Ji Ning frowned slightly and rejected her, saying, "There’s a problem with your paperwork, step out immediately!"
"Report, I..." Before she finished speaking, Huang Ying suddenly felt her mind sink, a wave of sleepiness instantly assailed her brain.
She tried hard to pinch herself, wanting to keep consciousness, but couldn’t resist Ji Ning’s mental hypnosis.
Ji Ning cradled the limp woman in front of her, carried her into a nearby tent, and carefully tucked her in.
Pressing her finger to Huang Ying’s forehead, she said calmly, "Huang Ying, your mission is complete, Bai Yusen is still waiting for you to go back and get married!"
***
The pitch-black Pollution Zone had long gone without sunlight.
Bright headlights sliced through the darkness, bringing a sliver of light to the tranquil forest.
Ji Ning, resting with her eyes closed in the passenger seat, suddenly opened her eyes, "Stop all vehicles——"
The driver immediately stepped on the brakes, and the convoy lined up in two rows came to an abrupt stop.
Ji Ning watched the front, her dark pupils gradually lightening.
meters away from the convoy, numerous High-level Mutant Beasts had blocked the way, and behind them was the special magnetic energy wall.
Once she passed through that energy wall, she could enter that unknown realm.
Ji Ning opened the car door, jumped down, and walked slowly to the front of the convoy, with Quell Vis also getting out, closely trailing behind her.
The two moved forward, towards the mutant beast herd.
As they approached, the once silent mutant beast herd grew extraordinarily agitated, hidden within the beasts, a high-level ruler let out a sudden cry, causing the herd to riot, attacking them frantically.
But before they could approach, they were pulverized into blood paste by an invisible force.
The Mutant Beast King’s cries grew more intense, more mutant beasts gathered, and some went to attack the convoy.
The fierce sounds of fighting quickly erupted behind them.
This mutant beast assault was more ferocious than ever before, each mutant beast’s ability seemed to have leveled up.
Unchecked 10th Rank and above mutant beasts poured out in droves, and soon the field turned into a hell on earth.
The stench of blood permeated the entire forest.
Ji Ning’s gaze locked onto the Mutant Beast King, neither moved, allowing the ruthless melee around them to ravage countless lives.
The Mutant Beast King’s golden pupils seemed filled with wisdom; if not for the difference in form, Ji Ning would think it was a higher organism equivalent to human intelligence.
"You can’t stop me." Ji Ning suddenly spoke.
The Mutant Beast King shook its head at Ji Ning, then roared twice more, hordes of mutant vampire bats swooped down from the sky, crazily crashing into the convoy.
Ji Ning’s expression turned sharp, her gray eyes lightened further, and soon, wails began to echo behind her.
Burning firelight dyed the sky red, appearing like meteors out of thin air in the horizon, quickly and accurately targeting swathes of airborne mutant beasts.
The falling bodies, like bombs, cleared swathes of ground mutant beasts, easing the warriors’ pressure instantly.
The Mutant Beast King watched waves of its underlings fall, growing more frenzied, its roar rising in crescendo.
Mixed with sound wave attacks and Spiritual Ability, it attempted to break through Ji Ning’s defensive wall, but that invisible barrier was like a sturdy fort, blocking all its assaults.
Ji Ning spoke again: "With me here, you cannot harm my people. Leave, or die——"
Enraged by Ji Ning’s words, the Mutant Beast King ceased directing its underlings to attack her, instead barreling toward her with a roar.
With humanoid limbs, wielding a metal rod found god knows where, it swung heavily at Ji Ning’s body.
Ji Ning caught the metal rod single-handedly, kicked up with her foot, right into the Mutant Beast King’s belly.
Its tough fur was dented inward, causing it to scream in pain, its upper arm suddenly lengthening to grab at Ji Ning’s slender neck.
Ji Ning ducked her head to dodge, grabbed its iron-like arm, and flipped it over her shoulder, slamming it heavily to the ground.
The Mutant Beast King was an adult baboon, very intelligent, adept at long-distance Spiritual Attacks, but weak at close combat.
Upon the first exchange, Ji Ning spotted its weakness, then stomped on its back, pinning it underfoot, unable to turn over.
She bent slightly, saying to it: "Don’t worry, I won’t let you die. You still need to lead me inside to find your master."
"Roar——Roar——" Piercing cries rang out again, mutant beast groups around them launched another fierce assault.
Superpowers and gunfire intertwined in the air, but none came close to falling upon Ji Ning and Quell Vis.
A thin membrane surrounded them, keeping all attacks outside.
Looking back at the mutant beast group being crushed in battle, Ji Ning’s lips curved up slightly as she said in a light tone, "These years were enough for me to understand your strengths and weaknesses. As long as we’re not inside the magnetic field, wiping you out is more than feasible."
