Chapter 480: Chapter 480: I Am Willing to Help You, Part 1
"It’s obvious from the start that they came prepared to catch us flat-footed. Ryan’s gotten mixed up with the mayor this time, and the mayor has already been removed from office and is under investigation. Even if the other side were willing to let this go, the public won’t."
"Ryan has really landed in hot water this time. With the evidence being so ironclad, there’s no way to reverse the situation. The best we can hope for is a reduced sentence. Unless a powerful benefactor steps in, otherwise..."
Annabelle Linton slumped into the chair.
...
Two days passed, and she had come up with nothing.
Annabelle Linton dragged her heavy body home and took a deep breath.
She had been to so many places, yet there was still nothing she could do.
The moment she closed the door, she slid down against it, burying her head in her knees as tears began to stream down her face against her will.
’Useless. So utterly useless!’
It was the only word she had for herself.
KNOCK KNOCK—
A knock sounded at the door, followed by Aaron Wyatt’s clear, gentle voice from the other side. "Annabelle, come out and eat."
Annabelle Linton didn’t make a sound.
Aaron seemed to sigh, then said patiently, "Come out and eat. We’ll find a way to sort things out for Ryan..."
The door flew open. Annabelle Linton threw herself into his arms, sobbing, "Aaron, there are only two days left! In two days, Ryan will be sentenced and he’ll be locked away for good! The lawyer said at least ten years. Ten years! He’s still so young. Is his life really going to be ruined just like that?"
Her tears soaked the front of his shirt. A peculiar glint flashed in Aaron’s eyes.
Then, he stroked her hair, his eyes staring blankly ahead as he said softly, "We’ll find a solution. We definitely will. Trust me. Right now, the only thing you need to do is not let yourself fall apart. You have to wait for Ryan to get out safely, understand?"
Annabelle thought for a moment, then vigorously wiped her tears away and went to eat.
’That’s right. I have to take care of myself first. Ryan needs me. I can’t fall apart!’
Annabelle shoveled the food into her mouth, but with each bite, she grew more and more tired...
That was right. He had put sleeping pills in her food.
After Aaron coaxed her to sleep, he gently closed the door. The moment he turned around, his face became an icy mask.
He went downstairs and drove off.
Nearly half an hour later, his car pulled up in front of an ordinary-looking apartment building.
He got out, impassively took the elevator upstairs, turned left, and stopped at Room 106, his face devoid of any emotion.
He raised his hand and pressed the doorbell. The door opened immediately.
Chase Lynch had just gotten out of the shower. His hair was still dripping as he opened the door, a towel in his hand.
Upon seeing Aaron, he instantly lowered his hand, bowed his head, and stepped aside respectfully. "Crown Prince."
Aaron walked coldly into the room, sat on the sofa, and elegantly crossed his legs.
He stared at him with a chilling, expressionless gaze. "Explain yourself."
"I don’t understand what you’re referring to, Your Highness."
"Explain."
Aaron stared at him coldly, without another word. He was a completely different person from the man who had been with Annabelle Linton.
Then again...
...when had he ever made an exception for anyone but Annabelle Linton?
"I..."
BANG—
Before he could finish, Aaron produced a gun from out of nowhere and shot him precisely in the leg.
Chase Lynch dropped to one knee.
Blood dripped onto the floor, but Chase Lynch didn’t even frown. He simply repeated, "I don’t understand what the Crown Prince is referring to."
"The tip-off. The evidence. Ryan Linton. Do I need to spell it out for you?!"
Aaron shot to his feet and kicked Chase over.
Chase Lynch slammed wretchedly into the corner, but he immediately righted himself onto one knee. "Your Majesty, you know that I am merely a subordinate who follows orders."
