Chapter 477: Chapter 477: Outsmarting Oneself (2)
A small discrepancy in the numbers... surely it couldn’t be bribery?
Ashley Grant nearly rolled her eyes into the back of her head.
’Pfft. An informant? Evidence like invoices and property deeds? And they’re calling him "Mr. Ryan Linton"? Give me a break. They’re making it all seem so real!’
’I’ve got to give this act a 98 out of 100. I’m holding back the last two points just so they don’t get too cocky.’
’I’ll have to chew out little Lucy Locke later!’
’Damn, the extras she hired are way too convincing. If I didn’t know what was really going on, I’d have actually fallen for it.’
’Scaring the clueless onlookers is one thing, but hey, Officer Friendly, could you at least give me a sign that we’re on the same team? Lucy Locke should’ve already given you the rundown, right?’
’Pretending you don’t know me like this... you’re making my poor little heart flutter. Is that really necessary?’
But even though she knew Lucy Locke had hired them, for some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to laugh as she watched the officers.
Heh, heh heh...
Annabelle Linton panicked on the spot. Bribery!
’This was no joke. Ryan was an adult now. If this accusation was true, he’d have to face legal consequences!’
"Excuse me, are these allegations true?"
"We wouldn’t make an arrest if there wasn’t a strong possibility. The details still need to be investigated, but you..."
Seeing Annabelle Linton’s wedding dress, the officer’s previously expressionless face finally showed a flicker of hesitation.
Hospitals and the law—when faced with these two subjects, no one can remain calm.
One concerns your life, the other your livelihood.
’Love is selfish. Ryan was her only family in the world. If he really had bribed someone, she, as his sister, would do everything in her power to protect him.’
’But bribery...’
’The law is written according to the standards of ordinary people. To the average person, a million was already an astronomical sum.’
’Bribery of over one million carries a sentence of five to ten years in prison. And Ryan’s bribe was ten million...’
A sharp pain pierced Annabelle’s heart.
Watching Annabelle Linton, Ashley Grant suddenly felt a twinge of guilt... She had a sudden urge to tell Annabelle what was really happening.
But it was just an urge.
Annabelle Linton’s mind went blank for a moment, but she quickly snapped out of it.
’Since someone had reported him, it meant they must have been fully prepared... It’s hard to defend against an attack from the shadows. Time was of the essence.’
With her eyes slightly red, Annabelle Linton looked apologetically at Aaron Wyatt. He had been looking forward to this wedding for so long...
Aaron Wyatt smiled at her, then walked over, took the microphone, and addressed the guests. "My apologies, everyone. Something has come up unexpectedly. Today’s wedding will have to end here. Thank you all for coming."
After he finished, he gave a deep bow, then turned to the police officers and said, "Please wait a moment."
He then led Annabelle Linton out of the main hall and into the adjacent dressing room.
The guests: "..."
’They came all this way for a wedding, and the bride and groom were the first to leave...’
Pulling a dress from the makeup team’s rack and handing it to her, Aaron Wyatt said to Annabelle Linton with conviction, "Don’t be afraid. I’ll handle everything."
Annabelle Linton nodded vigorously, full of gratitude, and hurried inside to change.
’As long as he was here, that was enough.’
Aaron Wyatt stood his ground, an icy glint in his eyes.
About three minutes later, Annabelle Linton emerged, having changed her clothes. Aaron Wyatt took her hand, holding it tightly as they got into the police car.
"SCREECH—"
Leona Grant had just arrived at the wedding venue when she saw Annabelle Linton and Aaron Wyatt getting into a police car and driving away.
A wedding... and a police car?
She was completely baffled.
’So, did they actually manage to get married or not?!’
Leona Grant was at her wits’ end. She didn’t know what to feel.
Just as she was about to follow them, Ashley Grant walked out.
