Chapter 460: Chapter 459: Wake Up and Look at Your Husband...
"Mr. Grant, we’ve done everything we could..." the doctors said, their heads bowed in apology.
Leona Grant walked to Annabelle Linton’s hospital bed and yanked off the sheet.
Annabelle Linton was completely dead. The hole in her head was still there; nothing had changed, except her eyes would never open again.
He gathered her in his arms and began to sob brokenly. "Honey, wake up and look at me... It’s me, your Leona..."
"Open your eyes and look at me! Didn’t you always love me so much? I love you so much too! Honey, open your eyes and look at me. One glance... just one glance, please..."
"Honey... Annabelle Linton, I’m begging you, please wake up. Don’t scare me like this. Wake up and look at me, won’t you...?"
"Annabelle, wake up! We’ve been together since we were children. You promised you’d be my wife forever. How could you just leave me like this, leaving me to suffer through all of this?"
"Honey, wake up!"
Leona Grant’s heart-wrenching cries echoed through the hospital corridors.
Watching all of this, the Leona Grant outside the dream felt as though he’d gone deaf, stunned and unable to snap out of it.
’Annabelle Linton was dead... and she had died at his hands...’
’No. No!’
He shook his head violently and crouched down, trying to calm the feeling of his heart about to leap out of his throat. He tried to hypnotize himself, repeating the words again and again.
’Annabelle Linton isn’t dead. She’s not dead, and he wasn’t the one who killed her!’
’She’s perfectly fine right now. In fact, she’s about to leave him and marry Aaron Wyatt!’
’Right, that’s how it is. He even tried to kill himself to make her stay, but she didn’t agree at all. They even held their engagement ceremony that day!’
’He would rather Annabelle Linton marry Aaron Wyatt right now, even if she had his children, than have her die at his own hands!’
’But why did all of this feel so real?’
’Why did it feel like what he was seeing had truly happened between him and Annabelle Linton?’
’But, if all of this had happened before, why couldn’t he remember any of it?’
Leona Grant felt an unbearable pain in his heart, as if it were being sawn open, shattering into pieces on the ground that could never be reassembled.
He suddenly remembered that time Annabelle Linton had put him in the hospital with an allergic reaction from some medicated balm. While in the hospital room, she had said something in her sleep.
"Leona, believe me. Believe me! I was framed! I didn’t kill the baby!"
’Framed... the baby...’
He suddenly recalled what Vivian Yates had said earlier, something about "her and his flesh and blood," and how "with the baby gone, she didn’t want to live anymore." ’So this must be the frame-up Annabelle was talking about, right?’
’In that case, did events unfold like this...?’
’Leona Grant knew Vivian Yates was involved in a conspiracy, so he deliberately put on a show for her while secretly searching for the truth.’
’As for why the baby had to exist, he didn’t know, because he didn’t know why the conspiracy existed in the first place.’
’However, to ensure Annabelle Linton’s safety, Leona Grant pretended to be imprisoned for killing Vivian Yates’s child, when in reality, he was trying to protect Annabelle. But he never expected Vivian Yates to scheme behind his back, manipulating things so that he would accidentally kill Annabelle Linton. And then... Annabelle Linton... she...’
’...Was reborn?’
’If that were the case, it would completely explain Annabelle Linton’s transformation.’
’She had changed overnight.’
’He had hurt her so much in the past, yet she had never given up on him. How could she have come to despise him over just one incident?’
’After all, things like that had happened to her plenty of times before!’
’If that’s true... was Annabelle Linton really reborn?’
’Did he... did he really, because of Vivian Yates’s scheming, accidentally kill her and their child...?’
