Chapter 443: Chapter 443: He Is Already Dead
Annabelle Linton watched him, lost in thought for a moment.
She hadn’t interacted with many people over the years. Besides her younger brother, the ones she saw most were probably Leona Grant and Aaron Wyatt.
’It was obvious at a glance which of the two was gentler and better suited for a stable life. So why did I fall in love with a man like *him* in my past life?’
’And in this life, I’ve been given time, a chance to get to know him. I care about Aaron Wyatt, worry about him, value him, and feel touched by his actions. He’s done countless things for me that have brought me to tears. I feel all of that... so why does my heart never race for him?’
She stared blankly, surprised that she would suddenly think of that other man...
Annabelle Linton snapped out of her daze. She took a casual sip of her coffee and gazed out the window as if nothing was wrong.
’I hope he’s doing okay.’
She hummed a soft "mhm" in response to Aaron Wyatt.
The boarding call for their flight began to echo through the terminal. Annabelle Linton stood, tossed her coffee cup into the trash, and boarded the plane with Aaron Wyatt.
As she was about to leave, a place in her heart felt inexplicably empty and raw.
「...」
Leona Grant had a car accident and never woke up.
He felt like he was dead.
It was as if his soul had left his body. He felt weightless, drifting through an endless darkness filled with all kinds of sounds. It was a little terrifying, like watching a horror movie.
’I must be dead,’ he thought. ’I’m floating, not walking.’
Leona Grant sighed.
’Well, maybe it’s for the best. At least this way, I can stop myself from bothering Annabelle Linton...’
’I wonder what Annabelle Linton is up to?’
Just the thought of her made him miss her all over again.
The light in Leona Grant’s eyes dimmed. He drifted despondently, losing all track of time, until he slowly found himself on a main street. It was gradually starting to fill with people.
The place he was in was in the middle of winter.
But he was still wearing the thin, blue-and-white striped hospital gown he had on before he lost consciousness.
Walking through the snow, he could see the flakes drifting down, but he felt no cold.
It was nighttime, maybe eight or nine o’clock. It looked like they were celebrating Christmas. The streets were filled with decorations and Christmas carols were playing. There were Christmas trees everywhere, and little kids wore Santa hats.
Leona Grant frowned, completely baffled. He hated when things happened outside his control and began looking around.
A sixteen-year-old girl with her hair in a ponytail came running toward him through the heavy snow. She wore a white, hooded sweatshirt, a red scarf, black skinny jeans, and black snow boots.
Her ears were bright red from the cold, and her cheeks were flushed. She looked freezing, but there was no hiding the excitement on her very pretty face.
She was clutching a large, ornate gift box.
Leona Grant stared at the girl in astonishment. ’Isn’t that Annabelle Linton?’
’But why is she so young?’
Seeing her brought a flood of memories rushing back.
’Did Annabelle Linton marry Aaron Wyatt? What are they doing right now?’
A thrill of surprise shot through him, and he ran toward her, wanting to ask who she was, if she knew an Annabelle Linton. But the girl ran straight past him without a single glance.
A bitter feeling welled up in Leona Grant’s chest. ’She won’t even spare me a single glance?’
Annabelle Linton ran, muttering to herself, "Faster, faster, just a little faster! It’s almost Christmas! Leona must be getting impatient!"
A sharp pang went through Leona Grant’s heart. ’This scene...’
"AH!"
Before he could remember what it was, he heard Annabelle Linton cry out.
