Chapter 402: Chapter 402: What Use Are You to Me If You Don’t Change Your Identity?

It had been a struggle, but she’d gotten them.

Kiera Keane hugged the files to her chest, sank to the floor, and quietly closed her eyes.

’Ryan, you were the one who betrayed me in the end. If I do something... it’s understandable, isn’t it?’

...

After leaving, Annabelle Ainsworth sped home in her car.

The stinging pain on her face felt like it was on fire. It hurt. It hurt so much!

But what she feared even more was her cover being blown!

"Welcome back, Miss."

"Miss is home."

The servants greeted her one after another, but Annabelle Ainsworth’s face was contorted in a grimace. She burst out of the car, ran into her room, and slammed and locked the door behind her in one fluid motion.

Staring at the red blotches already forming on her face in the mirror, she rummaged through a cabinet like a desperate addict, found a bottle of pills, and downed the entire contents. Then she stormed into the bathroom and started scrubbing viciously at her face.

SPLASH—

A section of the wall slid open, and Chase Lynch stepped out.

He sat on the sofa, crossed his legs, and watched her furiously washing her face, a smirk playing on his lips.

"Are you trying to scrub a layer of skin off?"

The woman finished scrubbing her face and stormed out, water dripping everywhere, to confront him. "The plastic surgery was a success! Why is this happening?"

Chase Lynch’s lips curled into a lazy smile. "All surgeries come with risks. Surely you understand that? Besides... did you really think it would be easy to transform your old face into this one? Vivian Yates—"

The woman’s face paled. "Shut up! Do you want everyone to find out?"

"Heh. You’re a coward."

Chase Lynch’s smirk vanished, and his gaze turned sharp. "How did it go?"

"It’s done." Vivian Yates injected her face with a syringe, then asked tentatively, "Why do you insist on separating Ryan Linton from Annabelle Linton? He’s just a kid. Is all this trouble really necessary?"

"Stay out of things that don’t concern you!" Chase Lynch said icily.

’Besides, Ryan Linton is no mere kid.’

’He could ruin everything!’

’He’s already starting to suspect something. I have to separate those siblings, or the whole plan will fall apart!’

’And he must leave, too. Otherwise, with the Crown Prince and Annabelle Linton...’

Chase Lynch handed her a file.

Vivian Yates took it, frowning. "What’s this?"

Chase Lynch stared at her, his face devoid of expression. "It’s a detailed file on Annabelle Ainsworth. Study it. You’re impersonating her now, so you’ll be seeing Annabelle Linton a lot. They’re very close, so don’t blow your cover."

Vivian Yates’s brow furrowed. She hated anyone and anything connected to Annabelle Linton. "I don’t see how impersonating her is going to get Leona Grant to notice me. He only has eyes for Annabelle Linton. He already rejected me at the coffee shop."

"Do you even have a choice in the matter?"

Chase Lynch raised an eyebrow, looking down on her. "Leona Grant already despises you. And last time, when you threw Faye Sheffield off that cliff, Annabelle Linton filmed it. She’s waiting for the right moment to use that video to destroy you. If you don’t take on a new identity, what use are you to me?"

Vivian Yates’s eyes widened in shock. "A video?"

Chase Lynch scoffed. "You idiot! You didn’t even realize you were being recorded!"

"That bitch! She set me up! No wonder even Faye Sheffield found out. It was all her!"

With a furious sweep of her arm, Vivian Yates sent the cosmetics on her vanity crashing to the floor.

"That’s because you’re an idiot," Chase Lynch said, the corner of his mouth curving in an appreciative smile. "I’ve never met a woman so shrewd."

Seeing his admiration for Annabelle Linton drove Vivian Yates mad with jealousy. She asked irritably, "What if the real Annabelle Ainsworth comes back? If I’m impersonating her, then the real me has basically vanished. People are going to get suspicious."
