Chapter 400: Chapter 400: In My Eyes, You’re Always the Best

"You idiot." Annabelle Linton lay on his chest, frowning as she scolded him. "Why didn’t you take proper care of yourself? Even if you were avoiding me, you should’ve looked after yourself. What good does it do to treat yourself like this?"

"You didn’t want me anymore, so why should I have bothered taking care of myself?"

Annabelle Linton strongly disagreed. "So if I really hadn’t come looking for you, were you just planning to die here?"

"That was the plan," Aaron Wyatt said sullenly. "You don’t want me anymore, so what’s the point of living?"

A pang of guilt shot through Annabelle Linton’s heart. ’He must have been like this in our past life, too, when I shut him out and refused to see him...’

’I’m forever in his debt.’

She sighed and said with a conflicted expression, "No matter what happens, you have to take care of yourself."

Seeing her concern, Aaron Wyatt smiled in satisfaction. "Got it."

Annabelle Linton looked at the bruises on his face. ’That fight the other day was really vicious.’

She examined his injuries, then said with a frown, "Get up. Let’s go home so I can put some medicine on your wounds."

Home...

’What a warm and wonderful word. He’d never imagined he would have a home with Annabelle.’

"Annabelle, will you leave me?" he asked earnestly, grabbing her hand.

’Would she?’

’She wouldn’t, but she had a feeling things wouldn’t go that smoothly.’

Annabelle Linton looked at him calmly. "Why do you ask?"

"Because I’m afraid," he said anxiously, his gaze fixed on her. "I can’t compare to him."

The "he," of course, was Leona Grant.

Annabelle Linton sighed and offered him a faint smile. "Don’t be silly. In my eyes, you’ll always be the best."

’In my eyes, you’ll always be the best...’

’You’ll always be the best...’

After hearing those words, Leona Grant’s lips quirked. He turned and strode away.

’What was the point of listening any longer?’

’It would only hurt more...’

He lowered his gaze, a cold, self-mocking smile tugging at his lips.

’Right. He’s always the best...’

’So what does that make me?’ 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

’Always the worst.’

Aaron Wyatt watched the elongated shadow outside the door gradually vanish, a dark glint flashing in his eyes.

’A truly formidable rival.’

His expression softened as he turned back to her. "Thank you, Annabelle. In my heart, you’re the best, too."

Annabelle Linton smiled. "Let’s go home."

"Okay."

Annabelle Linton helped Aaron Wyatt to his feet, and the two of them walked out of the rented apartment.

On the way, Aaron Wyatt clung to her like a child, resting his head on her shoulder in a cute display.

Annabelle Ainsworth sat in her car, watching the two of them walk away, supporting each other. A sly smile played on her crimson lips.

’Things are getting interesting.’

She then dialed a number. "Hello, is this Miss Keane? Are you free to meet tomorrow?"

...

「In a coffee shop at three the next afternoon.」

Kiera Keane and Annabelle Ainsworth sat facing each other in a private room. Kiera Keane asked calmly, "Who are you?"

’When she’d gotten the call yesterday, the person on the other end had only said, "I can help you get what you want."’

’And what did she want?’

’Ryan, of course, and for her legs to get better.’

’But looking at the face before her, which bore such a striking resemblance to Annabelle’s, she was taken aback.’

’The resemblance was uncanny. Truly uncanny.’

Seeing Kiera staring at her face, Annabelle Ainsworth knew exactly what she was thinking.

’Right now, she must be wondering about my relationship with Annabelle Linton, whether we know each other.’

Heh.

’Of course we do.’

’How could we not?’

She smiled, took a file out of her bag, and handed it to her. "Take a look."

Kiera Keane took it and glanced at the contents. Her eyes widened in shock. ’This... Isn’t this Ryan’s latest investment project?’
