Chapter 29: Chapter 28: Brawl
The boys sighed in relief. Cass asked, "How are you feeling?"
Katherine smiled and replied, "I’m feeling great and a little bit tired. The Lineal Feedback is insane."
Zeke said, "I expected as much. Just don’t rely on it too much. It is a double edged sword. It is great during the pregnancy, but ultimately, it is not your strength. It is extremely addictive and I have seen cases where mothers went insane after losing it."
This woke Katherine up. She had forgotten about this. She decided that she wouldn’t use it unless it was absolutely necessary. She went back to her room and took a nap. Seeing those giants had been extremely exhausting for her. She also decided that the boys didn’t need to know about that right now. She would tell them when it was time.
The boys also made their way back to the lab. They had much to do. First, they had received a new System Achievement so, t hey had to check it. After that, they had to test their cultivation technique. After reaching the lab, they opened their System Achievements Window and checked the details of the new achievement.
-----------------[Achievements]-----------------
7. Benevolent Primogenitors: You have risked your life for the prosperity of your Race.
Myth: Twin Arbiters of Equibrilium is reacting to the System Achievement: Benevolent Primogenitors. Your Myth has grown.
-Skill: Primogenitors’ Pantheon: Create a Pantheon for your believers. Believers are divided into 4 levels depending upon their Faith. Pan believers, True believers, Fanatics, and Saints. You can transform Fanatics into Neo-Nephilims by consuming FAITH. They will lose all of their cultivation and begin anew.
------------------------------------------------
Zeke and Cass became speechless. They immediately told the details of the skill that had just received to Dean. Dean was drinking water but when he heard what the boys said, he accidentally spit it out.
"Cough, what did you just say? Are you sure that you can create more Neo-Nephilims?"
Zeke replied, "Yes, but they’ll be just normal Neo-Nephilims."
"Normal Neo-Nephilims?"
"Let me explain it to you this way. Imagine our Race as an empire. As the Neo-Nephilim Primogenitors, we are the Founding Fathers of this empire. The Neo-Nephilims that we turn with our Skill: Primogenitors’ Blood, are the Imperial Family. Their descendants will become the nobles.
Finally, the Neo-Nephilims that we turn using FAITH will become the equivalent of the commoners. Of course, there are exceptions. If the believer that we turn is a Saint, then they might become the equivalent of a lowest-ranking noble."
Dean thought about it a little and asked, "What is the difference between them?"
Zeke replied, "Potential and talent. I’m not sure how they would compare to Neo-Humans, but they should be pretty strong."
Dean started laughing wildly. It was honestly a little creepy. Cass and Zeke backed up slightly. Dean looked at them and they could see a crazy light in his eyes.
Cass said, "Uncle Dean, you’re scaring us."
Dean realised what he was doing and returned to his composed self. He said, "Sorry, but I don’t think that you realise the implications that this skill has on the war. We can finally turn the tide with this. Let me tell you a secret. As we stand now, we don’t have much of a chance.
The only reason we, the Federation, still stand is because of the grace period. That is why, I and the old man made a plan. Project Tinder. The plan was that in 15-20 years, the old man would escape with his family and some other talented individuals. We have started collecting all of the cultivation techniques in the Federation for this reason.
They would build the Federation again in case we lost. We have already located some habitable planets far away. Only two people apart from you two know of this plan. I and Uncle Leo. But, if what you say is true, then..."
Dean didn’t complete his sentence but he didn’t need to. The boys were smart and realised what he meant. They suddenly became serious. This was huge.
’So that’s why Grandpa disappeared in my other life. It kinda comforts me that at least one member of my family was alive. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t crush those bug bastards.’ Zeke thought inwardly.
A wild killing intent had started brewing in his eyes. Seeing this Dean smiled a little. He reminded him of the first generation of the Federation. Although the war was still going on, it was relatively peaceful.
But during those times, Players were conscripted as soon as they reached the E Grade. Even 13-14 year olds were killing machines slaughtering every enemy in their path until their last breath. Cass also sensed the killing intent and calmed Zeke down. He said, "Calm down. Our enemies are too strong and we are too weak."
Zeke also understood this and calmed down. He had to grow strong. The boys decided to test their cultivation technique now. They both went to a cultivation room. There were many formations inside that aided cultivation. The only problem was that it used too many resources but resources were the one thing that they didn’t lack.
This was the reason that only rich families had them. Dean was also curious about their technique. Maybe he could get some inspiration from them and make his own technique stronger.
The boys had given him the original manuscript of the Supreme Conduit Codex along with the external conduit Chapter. It was still incomplete but he had some ideas. If he was successful in his endeavour, it would become a technique that all Neo-Humans could use, just like the Supreme Exercise. Maybe it could even surpass that.
The boys activated the formations and sat down. Mana started filling the room. The boys were in deep concentration. They slowly absorbed the mana in their Mana Centre. It was currently dusk, one of the best times for them to cultivate. After refining the mana, they started circulating it through the conduits.
After about half an hour, unbeknown to them, their bodies started floating. Their wings unfurled and their appearance started changing. Before they were identical twins and only those who were intimately familiar with them could tell the difference. But now, anyone would be able to differentiate them easily.
Cass’s face became a little more mature. The purple and golden scales on his wings dimmed a little and became more sober. His muscles swelled slightly. All of this was still fine. What was strange was purple scales had grown on his shoulders and forearms. He looked like the responsible and reliable elder brother.
The changes in Zeke were even more pronounced. It was the opposite of Cass. He became more lean and compared to Cass, he looked a little immature. The scales on his wings became even more dreamy and were glowing. Golden Scales grew on his shoulders but the scales on his forearms were the same as Cass, purple. One final change took place in him. His hair lost its purple tips and became completely silver. He looked like the troublemaking younger brother who always had mischief in his mind.
After the transformation was over, the boys woke. They instantly saw the changes in each other.
Zeke shouted, "What the hell!"
He hurriedly took out a mirror from his space ring. He looked at his appearance and shouted once again, "Why the hell do you look older than me? We’re identical twins!"
Cass scoffed and replied, "It’s because I am older than you dumbass."
Then he pushed Zeke aside and examined himself in the mirror. He saw his newly grown scales and tried knocking them. Dean, who was silent until now, said, "It seems that your subconscious has been reflected in your physical appearance. The transformation must have been delayed until you used your conduits.
Cass thought about it for some time and agreed with Dean. he had always loved training his body, which explained his bigger muscles. What he couldn’t explain were their new scales.
As if expecting this doubt, Dean answered, "Your scales come from your Ash Demon lineage. Even though it has now evolved, it is showing some traits. Ash Demons grow scales as they grow stronger. What confuses me is that their scales don’t grow until they become Demon Viscounts i.e. D Grade."
Then they heard Zeke mutter, "This completely ruins my plan of blaming Cass if I got in trouble."
Cass was about to say something but choked on his words when he heard what Zeke said. As if he had made up his mind, Zeke’s expression became resolute.
He said, "Oi Cass, let’s battle. No mana or skills, just our physical bodies. The loser has to call the winner ’Big Bro’ for a month."
Cass thought about it a little and said, "Sure. Let’s do it. It’s time I show you why I am the older one. Uncle Dean, lease seal our mana."
Dean looked at the boys and thought, ’Boys will be boys. But it is a nice chance to test their strength. Let’s see how the old man has trained them.’
He put his hand on their Mana Centres and sealed them. The boys looked uncomfortable as if they had lost something important. They quickly shook that feeling off and moved to the training grounds.
At the training grounds, they removed their shirts. Dean stared at them, doubt evident on his face. They ignored him and warmed up a little. Cass looked at Zeke and asked, "Weapons?"
Zeke replied, "Yes."
They both chose their weapons. During the time they had trained with Leonel, they had gained preferences. Zeke liked chained weapons while Cass felt the most comfortable with polearms. Cass picked up an iron staff while Zeke chose a chain scythe. It had a really dull blade so it wouldn’t inflict any fatal wounds.
They both got in positions. Dean stood in between them as the referee. He said, "The match will be over when one of you surrenders or I decide that one of you is unable to fight any longer."
The boys became serious. They stared at each other intensely, battlelust evident in their eyes. As soon as Dean said, "Begin.", they moved. Cass shot towards Zeke, but Zeke unfurled his wings and flew into the air.
He had already realised that fighting on the ground would be disadvantageous to him as compared to an aerial battle. Cass followed after him. For a while, Cass just chased after Zeke. What he didn’t realise was that Zeke wasn’t flying around.
He had been swinging the chained scythe in a way that would create an impenetrable defence around him. This was a skill that he had created during his training with Leonel. He slowed down his flight and acted like he had become tired. Cass didn’t miss this chance and rushed toward Zeke.
He swung his staff but it was deflected. He didn’t lose his momentum and used the recoil to his advantage. He once again swung the staff. This time though, the chain wrapped around the staff. Zeke smiled and looked at Cass. To his surprise, Cass was also smiling.
He said, "Got you now, lil bro."
He had known about Zeke’s skill and knew that his staff would get tangled up by the chain. Hell, he was counting on it. He rushed toward the ground. Zeke tried to stop him but was unable to. He was pulled by the chained scythe and crashed into the ground. One of the disadvantages of this skill was that he was unable to let go of the chain as it had wrapped around his arm.
Not letting this moment go, Cass besieged Zeke with a series of rapid strikes. By this time, the chain had unwrapped from the staff and he began defending. He increased the gap between them with great difficulty. Finally, he started his counterattack.
He was attacking Cass rapidly, not allowing him to close the gap between them. He wrapped the chain around Cass’s staff once again, but this time he was ready. As soon as the chain wrapped around the staff, he yanked on it surprising Cass. Due to the surprise, he slipped up and the staff ended up flying into Zeke’s hands.
He threw the staff far away, but this time, Cass appeared in front of him and punched his chin with a right uppercut. Zeke lost focus for a moment and ended up loosening his hold on the chained scythe. Cass took the chain and threw it away. He could have used it himself but he was nowhere near proficient enough and it would just hinder him.
Now that both had lost their weapons, the fight turned into a brawl. They threw everything that they had at the opponent. After some time, both had become tired but they still went on. They had already forgotten about the wager. They were fighting because they were having fun. The fight came to an end with them punching each other in the jaw. After that, neither of them had the stamina to go on and they both fell to the ground, panting.
Dean said, "That’s enough. It’s a tie."
For some reason, there was anger on his face. After their boys’ breathing had calmed down a little, Dean looked at them and said, "What the hell was that?"
