Chapter 457: Chapter 457 - Cherished Memories(Part 10)
"This System includes several features. An Item Box with one hundred slots, an information bank with details sections on everything about this new world, an entertainment screen where you will be able to watch such things as movies, shows and anime, from both your last two lives, as well as a wide range of video games. It also has a map of the world, and by zooming into the map, you can view a live feed of any location you wish to observe. The System is also capable of recording footage, both remotely and in-person. I took the liberty of recording many of your most cherished moments from your memories and saved them into this System, you can view them whenever you like."
I...I don’t know how to feel about that. On the one hand, it will be nice to be able to watch those memories...but on the other hand, they’re bound to just make me even more miserable, serving as proof of what I’ve lost.
"Right, I believe that covers all the abilities you will have in your new body. You will instinctively be able to tell exactly how to use all these abilities, though you will need to work a bit to master them. However, seeing as how many of these abilities are quite similar to the abilities you possessed in this world, that should not be too difficult. Would you like to make any modifications to these abilities?"
"No, they’re fine as is, I suppose."
"Are you sure? You ought to give it some thought, because after I reincarnate you, it will be too late to make any changes. So-..."
"I said it’s fine."
"Very well, then. Before we conclude, I should explain more about the Dungeons. Monsters exist in a separate dimension, and can only enter the world through the Dungeons. The towers rise up from rifts, and Adventurers are tasked with eliminating the Monsters in the Dungeons. If all the Monsters are either eliminated or exit the Dungeon, the Dungeon disappears, before being replaced by a new one a short while later. There is no specific reason that the Dungeons appear, it is simply how this world works.
Monsters cannot leave the Dungeons right away, there is a higher concentration of Mana in their dimension compared to the human world, the Dungeons initially have a similar level of Mana concentration as the Monster realm, but slowly lowers over the course of a week or so to match the Mana concentration of the human world. During that time, the Monsters adapt to the change in Mana concentration, and they can only leave the Dungeon after they’ve fully adapted.
Humans also cannot enter Dungeons as soon as they appear, they can only do so around three days after they first appear. Stronger Monsters take longer to adapt, but it’s rarely more than two weeks...but for Unique Monsters, it’s about a month. However, given your abilities, not to mention your innate skill, you should have no trouble-..."
"Look...I don’t mean to be rude, but you did say that all this information is in the System you’ve given me, right? I’ll just look it all up later...let’s just get this over with. Please."
"Alright, if you say so. There is one final matter that must be addressed, though...it is regarding the world you’re leaving. While your exit has ensured that the balance of the world won’t be disrupted further, it is still rather unstable. There is a small possibility that it could fail to stabilize, it’s only about one percent, but it is a very real possibility."
Huh?
"N-no, you...you’ve got to be shitting me. Are you seriously telling me that I could be leaving for nothing? That even with me no longer able to live in this world, it could still get thrown out of balance!?" I snapped furiously.
"There is a way to make sure that it won’t come to that. But, I’m afraid you aren’t going to like it very much."
"I doubt it...I mean, what more could I lose?" I scoffed in response.
"It’s simple...if all memory of you in that world is deleted, it is certain that balance will be restored. But I have opted to let you make that decision...will you keep things as they are and risk the world falling out of balance, in which case it will eventually be destroyed? Or will you sacrifice everyone’s memories of you in order to ensure that won’t happen? The choice is yours."
H-huh? No, this...this is too fucking cruel, damn it. The only thing...the only goddamned silver lining in this fucked up situation was the fact that they’ll remember me. And now, she’s telling me that I have to throw that away too? But then...I...why...?
"Well? Which option will you choose?"
"D-damn it...god FUCKING DAMN IT!!! What option!? What choice do I have!? There’s only one choice...I refuse to let them die, even if the chances are low, I cannot allow that possibility to remain. So, go ahead...wipe out every last trace of me from that world. Go on and make it as though I never even fucking existed there!" I yelled in anguish, collapsing onto my knees in bitter, seething frustration.
"Very well, then. But I believe you’re wrong...even if they forget, so long as you remember, it-..."
"Shut up. Please, just...just shut up. I can’t take this anymore...send me to the next world already. I...I’ve had enough."
In the next instant, the white void disappeared, before I found myself in a large room, almost entirely empty except for a throne at the back of the space, with a short staircase leading up to it.
I collapsed onto my hands and knees, trembling in despair as the tears began pouring out uncontrollably, a choked sob escaping my lips as a shudder of anguish and sorrow erupted across my body.
Before I knew it, I was bawling my heart out, an unbearable pain in my chest as I wailed and wept ceaselessly, all my emotions spilling out like a broken fucking dam.
I cried and cried like I never have before, sobbing like a child as the despairing misery took hold of my entire being, killing me on the inside...
