Chapter 1900: A Request
Ning lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling. His mind turned over everything he’d witnessed during the day, trying to go through it all once again to see how he thought of the situation.
The portable suppression device was a good idea. In fact, he could see it being incredibly handy.
The spray was the same as well, able to temporarily remove someone’s powers. Although, it did have the potential to permanently remove powers if it was overused. That was dangerous.
The serum that enhanced abilities was somehow the least impressive thing to him there, but that was only because he put little importance on the power itself. Most of the time, it was never about how strong someone’s power was, but how they used it.
And then, there was the awakening serum. That was somehow the most amazing discovery that had been made by the government, and somehow the most frightening at the same time. The amount of danger that came from this one serum alone was beyond imagination.
The president had made her stance clear. She would use whatever means necessary to protect the country, and this was a necessary step for her in that direction. He hoped now that during that pursuit, she at least stopped to consider all the worst-case scenarios and proceed with caution.
He also did wonder if the apocalypse that Forgath had mentioned had something to do with this very thing. Was he helping progress the world toward an apocalypse?
Truthfully speaking, he had no reason to do anything to stop the apocalypse, since it would’ve happened had he never come here in the first place. But the same might be true of Tritus. He shouldn’t have been here either, so since he was trying to use the apocalypse for something, he was going to do the same as well.
Ning did consider if Tritus was behind the apocalypse in some way, but that just seemed impossible to him. The chances that a Constellation was silently working to do something that would kill the majority of the people seemed just... wrong.
Not to mention the mere fact that Constellations had a hard time killing humans in any way where they were directly involved, it just didn’t make sense to kill people at all.
Constellations were empowered by the billions of souls that were aware of their existence and thought about them. Getting rid of even half of them would mean that those many souls would no longer be aware of them.
In any other galaxy, where the Constellations hadn’t made a pact to stick to one planet, it might’ve worked. But in Meghilars, it didn’t.
Still, just to be sure, Ning asked the system.
"Is Tritus in any way involved in the upcoming apocalypse on this planet?"
<Tritus is only attempting to make use of the situation and is by no means the creator of the Apocalypse>
Ning narrowed his eyes. "That is to say he has plans for the apocalypse, but did not put it into motion, right?" he asked.
<That is correct>
That was all Ning really needed to know at the moment.
"If an apocalypse does come, maybe giving people new powers will be helpful," Ning thought.
He also thought of giving the people he knew new powers as well. How useful would that be for people like Blake, Larissa, and the rest?
That would be nice. He made a decision to get some early serum for these people once it was confirmed that they were safe to use.
With that thought, Ning closed his eyes and no longer concerned himself with anything else.
The next morning, Ning headed down to the hotel lobby along with Blake to have some breakfast. Several of the heroes from yesterday were already gathered there as well, along with people Ning didn’t recognize. They were no doubt the other people these heroes had come with.
He looked around while waiting for the breakfast to arrive and failed to see a few heroes. He wondered if they had decided to sleep in. He wouldn’t be surprised, considering the topic of the previous evening was enough to make one struggle to sleep until late into the night.
He talked with a few heroes during breakfast, making simple conversation. No one seemed to want to talk about the actual thing that was on everyone’s mind.
Once he was done with his breakfast, Ning and Blake returned to their room, only to find a bald-headed man in a black suit waiting for them.
"Can I help you?" Blake asked, stepping forward.
The man stood firm. "The president requests Sir Blackfang’s presence at his earliest convenience."
Ning raised an eyebrow. "Me? What for?"
"The topic is a matter of great secrecy. Only the president herself can tell you what it is. Are you free to leave?"
Ning shrugged. "I had my breakfast, so yes. Give me two minutes to get into my suit."
Ning had worn nothing more than the mask when heading down to the hotel lobby, so he went into his room and came out in his black and red suit a minute later.
"Let’s go!"
Black cars were outside the hotel, waiting to escort heroes to their official meeting with the president later in the day. That was when Ning was supposed to go with them too, but it seemed he would be leaving alone.
He wondered what had happened that caused him to be taken away this quickly.
Ning sat in the back of the car, watching the many buildings that passed by, until they arrived at a massive compound surrounded by concrete walls and guards stationed above those walls.
The Heart Mansion, as it was called, was the home of the president of the country. The car stopped at the gate for a quick checkup before it was allowed in.
Ning went through another vehicle inspection, followed by two more in-person inspections, before he finally arrived outside the room of the president’s office.
The man opened the door.
"Madam President, the hero Blackfang is here."
