Chapter 541: Chapter 539: Ten Thousand Insects Hall, Millennia-Old Insects
Looking at the ancient Ancestral Hall... Chu Sheng had a feeling.
’This thing... this Ancestral Hall of the Witch Race!’
’It very likely existed tens of thousands of years ago, maybe even millions of years earlier!’
「Meanwhile, in the square.」
Yun Yao took a deep breath and turned to face the twelve branch patriarchs, as well as the countless gazes from across the square.
"The Ancestral Hall is open."
Her voice carried across the entire area.
"The Ancestral Hall has three levels, descending one after the other. Only by passing the trials on all three can one enter the true core of the Ancestral Hall."
She paused, a flash of worry in her eyes as she looked at Chu Sheng.
"When I became the Holy Daughter, I entered the Ancestral Hall. However, my Bloodline as the Holy Daughter granted me unimpeded passage..."
"But, Master, you are different."
"There is no record of an outsider ever entering the main hall. What might happen... not even I can predict."
"Furthermore—"
She lowered her head, her voice dropping.
"I cannot accompany you inside. I can only temporarily give you the Holy Daughter’s mark; only then will you be qualified to enter the Ancestral Hall’s gates."
"But the Holy Daughter’s mark can only do so much. After all, you do not possess the Bloodline of my Witch Race."
As Yun Yao spoke, she formed a strange gesture with her fingers and began to whisper.
Immediately after, a stream of dark red light shot from between her brows and flew toward Chu Sheng.
Chu Sheng didn’t dodge.
The stream of light landed on his forehead, feeling faintly hot.
He could feel something boring into his Sea of Consciousness... ’Hmm, it didn’t trigger the system’s ultimate Defense, so there shouldn’t be a problem.’
After doing this, Yun Yao’s face paled slightly. She raised her head and looked at Chu Sheng.
"Master, it is done."
"You must be extremely careful. If it proves too much, activate the mark. You might be able to retreat..."
Yun Yao’s tone was heavy with worry.
If Chu Sheng died, she would die too.
That wasn’t important. What was important was that the hope of the entire Witch Race would be extinguished!
"BUZZ BUZZ."
Chu Sheng cut her off directly.
His gaze had been fixed on the depths of the Ancestral Hall from the very beginning... Though he hadn’t entered yet, he could already smell an aura inside that excited him.
He rubbed his mosquito legs together:
"BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ (Retreat? Not a chance! What’s there to be scared of?)"
In the next second, Chu Sheng’s figure flashed and appeared at the ancient entrance of the Ancestral Hall!
Then, without a shred of hesitation, he zipped inside!
...
「Outside the Ancestral Hall.」
Seeing this, several of the patriarchs exchanged glances.
The old patriarch of the Houtu branch stepped forward and said in a deep voice:
"Everyone, according to ancestral tradition, when an outsider enters the hall, we must use a Secret Technique to project their circumstances and bear witness to their actions."
The Ju Mang Lady nodded.
"Since that girl Yun Yao gave him the Holy Daughter’s mark, it is only right that we cast the technique."
The man from the Zhu Rong branch waved his hand.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s do it!"
The moment his voice fell, the twelve patriarchs raised their right hands in unison and slit their palms.
Blood gushed out but didn’t drip. Instead, it floated in mid-air, slowly coalescing into a fist-sized, blood-red orb.
The old patriarch of the Houtu branch began to chant, his voice low and ancient:
"Heh—Tu—Long—Sa—"
"Gu—La—Weng—Ma—"
The other eleven patriarchs joined in chorus.
The blood-red orb suddenly erupted with a blinding light and shot toward the sky!
BOOM—
The light exploded above the square, transforming into a massive, blood-red screen!
The screen was enormous, hundreds of feet wide, and it hovered above the Holy Hall, directly facing everyone in the square.
On the screen was a view of the inside of the Ancestral Hall.
A pitch-black corridor, deep stone walls, and—
a black mosquito flying forward.
Everyone held their breath.
The old patriarch of the Houtu branch slowly lowered his hand and announced in a grave voice:
"This screen can project the scenes from the first three levels of the Ancestral Hall. We have witnessed every Holy Daughter’s trial through this method."
He paused, his gaze fixed on the tiny black shadow on the screen.
"Today, let us see just how far this outsider Mosquito Beast can go."
The square was deathly silent.
Countless gazes were locked on the screen.
In the crowd, Ah Yi stood with her head tilted back, her eyes unblinking.
"Lord Saint Mosquito..."
she said softly.
"You can do it."
...
「Witch Race, Ancestral Hall.」
Chu Sheng flew through a long corridor, constantly observing his surroundings.
The stone walls on both sides were covered in dense, intricate totems.
The totems glowed faintly in the darkness, as if they were alive, lighting up one by one as he passed.
At the end of the corridor was a massive stone door.
The door opened automatically as Chu Sheng approached, like a gaping maw.
Chu Sheng sneered inwardly and flew in without hesitation!
BOOM! RUMBLE!
The stone door slammed shut behind him.
Chu Sheng’s vision was plunged into darkness. Not even his compound eyes could catch a single trace of light.
But his antennae sensed an aura... no, it was as if there were thousands, tens of thousands of them!
These auras seemed to be all around him.
Chu Sheng was just about to activate [Chaos True Sight] when suddenly, something in the darkness moved.
RUSTLE RUSTLE.
RUSTLE RUSTLE.
It was the sound of countless insect legs crawling, surging from all directions, getting closer and louder.
And then—
pairs of ghastly green eyes lit up in the darkness.
First a few pairs. Then dozens.
Hundreds.
Thousands.
Dense and layered, from top to bottom, left to right, from all directions, they filled the entire Space!
’This is... Gu worms?’
As the natural phosphorescence of the Gu worms began to glow, Chu Sheng finally saw the scene before him—
It was a massive underground Space, stretching for thousands of feet in all directions.
The surrounding stone walls were crawling with a dense mass of Gu worms.
Some were shaped like centipedes, dozens of feet long, their thousand legs writhing, black mucus dripping from their mandibles.
Some resembled scorpions, their stingers raised high, glowing with a strange purple light. Every twitch made the air HISS with the sound of corrosion.
Others were completely transparent, their internal organs clearly visible, slowly squeezing out from cracks in the stone walls. With every inch they emerged, their bodies swelled.
But the most terrifying part was what was below!
Below—
were thread-like Gu worms as thin as hair and flesh-colored giant maggots squirming forward!
They covered the ground in a thick layer, surging and churning as if the floor itself was boiling.
"BUZZ BUZZ (Holy crap! So many bugs!)"
Chu Sheng couldn’t help but let out a cry of alarm.
But this cry... was only thirty percent fear.
And seventy percent delight!
...
「Outside the Ancestral Hall.」
In the square, everyone gasped in unison.
"This is... the Ten Thousand Insects Hall!"
Someone cried out in shock.
The patriarch of the Shebishi clan spoke slowly:
"This is the army of Gu worms our race has raised for ten thousand years! Every single one, if let loose in the outside world, would be a creature that strikes fear into the hearts of all who hear of it!"
"That golden one is the Golden Silkworm King Gu! Legend says it can even bite through the Protective Spiritual Qi of an Emperor Realm expert!"
"That purple centipede... that is the Soul Devourer Heavenly Dragon Gu! It has lived for at least three thousand years!"
"Unfortunately, no one in our race can command these Gu worms anymore. The sacred insect raised by the Holy Daughter showed promise, but it is too young!"
The Ju Mang Lady added:
"The Holy Daughter possesses the Ancestral Witch Bloodline. When she passed through the hall, the Gu worms sensed her Bloodline’s aura and willingly retreated."
"We haven’t seen a scene of all ten thousand insects appearing at once in who knows how many years."
"This Saint Mosquito..."
She didn’t finish.
But everyone knew what she wanted to say.
Without the Witch Race Bloodline, in the eyes of these Gu worms, he was just—food!
