Chapter 508: Dungeon Guardian Construct
At the same time the necromancers and adventurers were left in a state of shock at the appearance of the towering stone figure that had emerged from the ground and directly smashed the massive mist serpent that had looked unstoppable only a second earlier into the ground, Scaly and Verdel found themselves in a difficult position, as the originally flawless hiding abilities of Verdell weren’t so flawless any longer with them running into an SS Rank Monster that had been wandering around the part of the monster army they happened to be walking around.
Even with Scaly seeing this powerful monster before it noticed the two of them, there was little she could do but try her best to blend in with the surrounding monsters and pass off as just another monster.
A plan that was bound to end up in failure, as Verdell’s flawless little disguise could only fool the monsters that had already been intimidated by Scaly’s presence and did little in the face of an SS Rank Monster that wasn’t intimidated by her and actually decided to inspect the odd thing on her back a bit more closely. Taking little to no time to realize that the odd pattern wasn’t some mysterious pattern, but instead a dwarf trying his best to hide himself with his legs still clearly visible for any monster to see.
Unsurprisingly, the SS Rank Monster also realized Scaly wasn’t one of them because of this.
ROOOOAR-!
Letting out a loud roar filled with anger and humiliation at the mere thought that Scaly and Verdell believed their little disguise would ever work against it.
I was seen through!? As expected, it’s far harder to hide from an SS Rank Monster...
The only unexpected turn of events was the fact that Scaly believed she had been the one to give the two of them away. Believing wholeheartedly that Verdell’s hiding method was flawless.
After all, in her eyes, the SS Rank Monster was looking her up and down closely before it began roaring at her and had only glanced towards Verdell once before focusing on her with a clearly suspicious look plastered all over its face.
No matter what, being seen through, she had no time to waste-
Whoosh-!
Taking the opportunity while the SS Rank Monster was still overcome by anger to flap her wings and take to the sky in an attempt to escape before the surrounding monsters realized what was happening and decided to join the SS Rank Monster in attacking her. Leading to a situation where she would inevitably end up overwhelmed by the endless monsters all around her.
W-what is that!?
And in turn, she was just in time to see the towering guardian of the dungeon core emerge from the ground before grabbing the head of the mist serpent and slamming it into the ground-
RUUUMBLE-!
The aftershock of the impact itself caused the ground even below her to shake violently as the monster that was about to jump up after her stumbled over its feet before falling to the ground. Delaying it enough that she was able to create a significant distance between herself and this SS Rank Monster below.
Although, her mind wasn’t on the SS Rank Monster below her but was instead focused on the towering being made entirely out of solid stone that had emerged before the marble temple of the dungeon core and singlehandedly smashed the mist serpent, a being that had already surpassed the SS Rank, into the ground...
[Stone Claw Dungeon Guardian Construct, lvl 202]
[Description: A golem whose only purpose is to guard a dungeon core, strength of a dungeon guardian construct varies from anywhere between the weaker A Rank to far above the SS Rank. All depending on the depth of the dungeon it guards.
The stone claw dungeon guardian construct is a unique evolution of a normal dungeon guardian construct, using a rare unique metal found by the dungeon core during expansion to forcibly elevate it beyond the SS Rank.]
Reading through the description of the towering golem that seemed to have the ability to grasp hold of the immaterial mist serpent, Scaly felt a sense of growing awe faced with the power displayed by the dungeon guardian construct. Surprised that the dungeon core still had such a powerful being hidden.
But at the same time, it also made her curious as to what the necromancers belonging to the Eternal Life Sanctum might be hiding. After all, with how boldly they had wanted to face off against the dungeon core and even had the ability to restrain the group of powerful adventurers at the same time, it was clear they also had something up their sleeve.
Problem was, even with the dungeon core pulling out its trump card in the shape of the towering dungeon guardian construct, the necromancers remained passive and allowed the two sides to fight on their own. Having already started retreating to give the two powerful beings the chance to clash with each other until one side perished and the other ended up grievously wounded.
Everything was going perfectly according to the plan that these necromancers had come up with to make the most of their situation. Focusing all their efforts that had previously been on dealing with the mist serpent towards the group of adventurers to ensure they couldn’t cause any trouble at this moment.
And while unwilling, the adventurers could only bide their time for now and wait for the moment to strike against the leading necromancer. Waiting for the necromancers to make their move so they could follow behind them and strike at their leader.
Understanding full well that they wouldn’t be able to do much now that the necromancers had focused their full attention on them and were ready to retaliate the second they did something.
Better wait for an opportunity to strike, as they didn’t plan on recklessly risking their life for the dungeon core even if their assigned mission was to ensure the safety of the dungeon core.
After all, they didn’t care enough about a dungeon core to throw their own lives away...
