Chapter 4: Unawakened?
The suffocating pressure did not subside even after her awakening, but that did not stop the onlookers from going insane.
The entire area was in an uproar.
"A S-rank mana pool?"
"She also has dual affinity."
"This is crazy. She is destined to be at the top now. We will be in the same generation as her."
Ethan was the only one unaffected by this, but the little uneasy feeling in his heart had now completely disappeared.
"You are in luck, brat. She will be a big name in the future," said the guard by his side.
’Luck? Probably.’
Eleanor blinked twice, even she couldn’t believe what she awakened. Naturally, this was everyone’s dream... to awaken a higher-grade mana pool. She also had the same dream, but now seeing it with her own eyes, it was unbelievable.
She immediately turned around, a wide smile plastered on her face, stretching as much as it could. Even with so many noises around her, her eyes locked onto Ethan.
"Ethan, I did..."
She raised her hand and waved at him, but before she could even finish, a few people from different guilds appeared before her, blocking her sight from Ethan.
"Miss Eleanor, I am a Level 28 climber from Black Horizon guild. We would like to give you an offer to join our guild." A middle-aged man with red hair, wearing black formal and clean attire, said respectfully.
"I am a Level 24 climber from White Fang guild. We would also like to offer you to join our guild. If you do, we will fulfill every request you have from us." A young-looking woman around her late twenties spoke right after him.
Just like that, 4 more people chimed in, offering her everything in order for her to join their guild.
All 6 of those belonged to the S-rank guilds. There were other members from different guilds too, but before these 6, none dared to come forward.
Just like them, the people from the academy also couldn’t do anything. Those 6 guilds stood at the apex of this world, the strongest.
Even the government had little say there, so an academy run by the government couldn’t do anything. They had long been used to this.
If they liked something, then they would take it, but that wasn’t true for everything. The government still held power, but it was lower than those 6 guilds, which kept on getting stronger.
And now that an ’Unidentified’ mana pool had appeared, it was certain that those 6 would go to any length to take her in.
Some did scoff, even cursing at them inwardly, but none could do anything. They were sure that they had already notified those monstrous Guildmasters from their guilds, they would be coming here soon, though others from smaller guilds also did the same. Who knew if they could bag a future S-ranker in their guild?
Eleanor backed away a little, clearly intimidated by this suddenness. Now that she had awakened, she could sense that these people who were being so respectful towards her were no ordinary people, they held such immense auras that she had never felt before.
"U-umm, I... I haven’t even finished my training in the academy, so..." She responded with the only logical answer she could think of, but hearing that, the member from Black Horizon guild laughed a little.
"That is true. We from the big guilds won’t go against the 3-year learning program that we all agreed upon with the official government. You will naturally continue on with your activities in the academy. This is just... an exception. It’s not every day that we can find someone like you."
"You just need to pick one guild, which you will be joining after 3 years. We are the best option you have, as we can help you grow the fastest compared to any other guild. You will reach the peak in a very short time." The woman from White Fang guild added.
In short, they were scouting her early on, as it was clear that they were the only 6 options she could pick from. They did not even count the government here.
"You don’t need to give the answer right now. Our Guildmaster is coming here right now." A burly muscular man among those 6 spoke, calling him a human felt like a lie.
He was from the Eclipse guild. He awakened a physical constitution which made him grow like this, he was more than 7 feet tall.
Ethan watched all this happen from the sidelines. This was going exactly as he remembered, even the words they spoke were the same.
’In a while, those 6 Guildmasters will be coming here, this will go the same as last time. While I remained in despair after being the only unawakened, not being by her side, she was forced to join a guild. I won’t do that now. At least not like before.’
Ethan decided to get himself involved in this, for Eleanor and for himself as well.
"Oi kid, don’t go there again."
"This won’t take long, so shut up and... don’t call me a brat." Ethan did not even look his way and headed towards Eleanor.
He could see that they were strong, but the aura they exuded... it wasn’t even close to the aura he felt from the Demon King. They seemed like children compared to that demon.
"Don’t you guys think it is inappropriate to circle someone like this? Even more so when so many others have yet to take the test?"
His voice cut through their close-to-intimidation-like offering session, making them all turn around and face him.
They coldly glared at him for interrupting them but soon became calm when they realized who he was. His act of love was seen by all.
"We apologize if it came off like that. We had no such intentions." Rodrek, the one from the Black Horizon guild, bowed a little and apologized.
’This kid was from before... maybe he is here to stick close to her more since she has such a future? I hope not, but I have seen many such cases.’
It was clear that he was very experienced in these sorts of things. After that, he continued, "If Miss Eleanor is willing to join us, then we don’t mind you joining us, no matter the rank you get."
He smoothly added another offer, taking advantage of the situation. Other guilds could do it too, but he was early.
However, Ethan did not care. "I appreciate your offer, Sir Rodrek. But I don’t think I can burden you with that."
He called his name out of habit and went to Eleanor’s side, ignoring the others. Rodrek was someone he knew from before, a qualified individual and a great hunter. He later went on to become one of the S-rank hunters as well.
"Cause you see, my friend is a genius, but not me. I am actually far lower than everyone present here, I have..."
As he spoke, he placed his hand on the world stone, taking his test early on. Just like before, the stone shook, but contrary to Eleanor, his results were,
[MANA POOL:- NONE]
[AFFINITY:- NONE]
"No mana pool at all."
He was unawakened.
