Chapter 161: The Academy City
The journey to the imperial capital was a long one.
The reason for that was largely because they had to travel through multiple territories in order to reach the empire. And so it took almost a whole month.
In reality, they could’ve reached their destination in far less time had they traveled through the seas. But that had not been an option for the two of them. Being nobles, there was a need to put on some performances, even though they might not have been necessary at all.
And traveling in a carriage bearing their noble family’s crest was one such performance.
As the carriage rumbled along the road, Adrian sat calmly with his eyes closed, training his mana manipulation by circulating the mana within his body.
But his focus was broken when Evangeline suddenly nudged him.
"Hey, Ad."
He slowly opened his eyes.
"What is it?"
Instead of replying, she pointed right above her head. Moments later, a crown made of water materialized above her head.
"This is a Tier Two water element spell, Ruler of Waves. It drastically increases my control over water. Paired with water manipulation, it’s currently the strongest move in my arsenal."
Adrian asked in a bored tone.
"And?"
She hesitated.
"I was thinking... what if my other three elements had a spell like this too? It would increase my power by quite a lot. And those spells would remain useful even after I reach higher Phases. So, um... what I was trying to say was... Adi, won’t you please make those spells for me?"
Adrian narrowed his eyes.
"I can make them, probably. But it will take quite a lot of time and effort, especially since I have no understanding of those three elements. So what do I get in return for putting in all that effort? You must know that I will not simply do it for you if I get nothing out of it."
"What do you want in return...?" She asked tensely. "I will do anything you want as long as it’s something I’m capable of."
’She really doesn’t know how to negotiate.’
Adrian pulled out the sword at his waist alongside its sheath and tossed it to her.
"Turn this thing into a magitool. Its function should be that when I channel mana through it, the blade gets covered in lightning. Lightning is a derived element of fire, so you should be able to do it."
Evangeline awkwardly caught the sword. She stared at it for a bit before looking at him with a troubled expression.
"But Adi, I don’t know any lightning spells..."
"Then just learn," he said flatly. "I will also be putting in quite a lot of effort, so it is only fair that you do the same."
Evangeline still looked troubled but nodded in the end.
"Okay... I will try my best..."
’Looks like it really paid off. It really was a good decision.’
Six years ago, Adrian had offered her a deal to enter a mutual partnership. Although things got twisted a bit before she was able to accept his offer, he somehow achieved what he wanted since Sir Avalon taught her sealing magic during the five years he had been away.
He had realized it after their first spar. The greatest advantage of her four major elemental affinities was the versatility she had in her ability to create magitools.
Adrian could think up hundreds of ways to make use of such an ability. It could even become one of his greatest assets. And so, he was helping the girl grow to the best of his abilities.
Adrian glanced outside the window.
They had finally entered the imperial capital. But they had yet to arrive at their destination.
’The Imperial Academy...’
Adrian had a lot of thoughts regarding that. He would be meeting children from all around the empire. And among those children, there would inevitably be those brimming with talent.
So his greatest priority was to do his best to maintain his status as a genius for as long as he could.

’I really feel like a celebrity.’
Being surrounded by several other carriages, people looking at them as they passed by, and the expressions of awe and wonder. It was all nearly the same vibe she got while looking at the entrance of celebrities at any event.
’I wonder when we’re going to arrive.’
Not long after she had that thought, the carriage began slowing down and soon came to a stop. Moments later, a knight opened the door for them.
As the two of them got out of the carriage, Evangeline found herself in front of an abnormally tall wall stretching in both directions as far as she could see.
Connecting the two was a massive gate made of black metal with a large gold crest of the imperial family clearly visible on it.
Guards wearing full-plate silver armor were standing on both sides of the door.
After staring blankly at it for a while, she turned to Adrian.
"Hey Adi... Is this really the entrance to the academy? It seems like the borders of a city..."
He nodded.
"You are correct. This is the entrance to the academy city."
’Academy City? As in, the entire city is part of the academy?’
It didn’t take long for her to find out. The knights talked to the armored guards by the entrance, and the massive gate was soon opened for them.
Apparently, they couldn’t allow the carriages to enter, so the two of them had to walk inside, surrounded by the knights.
Evangeline’s mouth hung open unconsciously as she entered.
It was as though she had been teleported into a completely different reality. The buildings around them were fundamentally different in structure compared to the buildings she had seen in the imperial capital itself. Every single building was strange and unique in its own way, with some being cylindrical in structure while others were tall yet thin.
Far into the distance, she could see a massive tower-like structure rising towards the sky and nearly reaching the clouds.
The strange city was bustling with a crowd of children around her own age.
It was a sight so overwhelming that even Adrian seemed to have paused for a brief moment.
As they continued walking deeper into the city, Evangeline was able to see many other wonderful things. Shops selling strange items, blacksmiths working in their forges, clothing stores, and much more.
There was even a woman with dark circles under her eyes, running around while clutching a bundle of booklets in her arms.
"An academy city guide for those feeling lost! It’s cheap too, only twenty lux! Buy it, it’s totally worth your money! Someone... please just buy it..."
Evangeline gave her a pitying look and turned away.
’I’m really going to spend several years in this place...’
At first, Evangeline had thought of the Academy as her first chance to experience school life, something she didn’t get to experience in her previous life due to her condition.
But after only experiencing the academy city briefly, her thoughts had changed completely. She now wanted much more than just to experience school life.
She turned to Adrian and spoke in a voice filled with determination, with a dreamy expression on her face.
"Adi, I have decided. I am going to stand at the top of this academy and reign over it like a queen!"
Adrian looked at her for a bit and let out a tired sigh.
"Yeah, sure, just try not to fail the theoretical part of the entrance examination."
