Chapter 476: Chapter 316: A God Roams the Mortal World, Unrestrained and Known to All (Middle)
Every morning, instructors from nearby martial arts schools come here to lead morning exercises. Anyone can participate and receive guidance, which serves as a subtle form of advertising for their respective schools.
Although many of the participants are too old to achieve any real mastery, the daily exercises are not strenuous. They focus on regulating one’s breath and improving the circulation of qi and blood, which is highly effective for improving general wellness.
As a result, it wasn’t just the elderly who participated; many young white-collar workers also joined the morning exercise groups. Many found that instead of feeling tired afterward, they had more energy throughout the day. Gradually, it became a regular habit, and they even began to form their own social circles around it.
Today, however, an unusual sound cut through the air before anyone had even begun to train.
DING! DING! DING!
It was the sound of text message notifications.
Normally, it would be impossible for so many notifications to go off at almost the exact same time.
Someone, finding it strange, pulled out their phone to check and couldn’t help but gasp in shocked disbelief.
"Martial law? Is this for real? What’s going on?"
"The highest alert level, too? This has to be a scam text, right?"
"I got one too. Can a scam text even be sent to this many people at once? Maybe it’s a drill?"
"..."
A murmur rippled through the crowd as the news spread like wildfire. A commotion swept through the square, and everyone forgot about their morning exercises, pulling out their phones to see for themselves.
Every single person had received the text. In fact, as if to prevent anyone from missing it due to a system error, the official message had been sent five times in a row.
WAAAAIL! WAAAAIL! WAAAAIL!
Just then, an air-raid siren began to blare. In the distance, the roar of sonic booms echoed as fighter jets streaked across the sky, leaving fiery trails in their wake.
Now, no one was calm. This didn’t look like a drill at all. It seemed a genuine, serious emergency was unfolding.
Some people took out their phones, trying to search for news of what was happening. Others began to pack their things, wanting to leave the square.
"Please follow instructions and do not wander off! We have opened the park’s underground shelters. Please follow the staff’s directions and proceed to the shelters to avoid any danger!"
Just then, a voice boomed over a loudspeaker. Park staff and a team of police officers approached the crowd, sending a chill down everyone’s spine. Those who had been about to leave froze in their tracks.
’It couldn’t really be an enemy bombing, could it?’
This wasn’t just happening in Modu Central Park; similar scenes were playing out in public spaces all across Modu.
Those who were at home were ordered to shelter in place and not go outside. Those in public areas were guided by staff and military police to nearby underground shelters.
Clearly, the authorities in Modu were attempting to lock down the city in the shortest time possible to prevent greater losses and casualties.
But everything was happening too quickly, too suddenly. The Donghua People, long accustomed to a life of peace, had lost their instincts for such emergencies. The relevant personnel also lacked experience, leading to considerable chaos.
However, this minor chaos seemed insignificant compared to the potential threat they faced.
Although the authorities were deliberately trying to control the flow of information, Modu was simply too important. News of the situation spread rapidly online and quickly reached nations around the world.
Something big was happening in Donghua’s Modu!!
But the general public had no idea what was actually going on. Some speculated it was an enemy attack; others claimed it was a natural disaster.
The upper echelons of various governments, however, knew very well that the incident in Modu was most likely connected to the recent situation in the East Sea.
Along the Modu coastline, the entire garrison held its breath. Helicopters and fighter jets circled in the sky, all eyes locked on the target before them.
BOOM!!
Everyone heard a terrifying sonic boom as the figure broke the sound barrier and vanished, reappearing on land the very next instant.
A terrifying shockwave from the abrupt stop swept outward. Warriors within ten meters were sent flying, and everyone within dozens of meters felt a powerful gale.
SHIK! SHIK! SHIK!
The scene triggered an instinctive reaction from many of the Warriors, who raised their rifles and aimed at the Immortal-like figure.
"Don’t shoot! Hold your fire!!"
The commander roared, and thankfully, no one’s gun went off by accident.
The East King paid them no mind. In his eyes, ordinary soldiers were no different from ants.
’However, since they dared to point their guns at me, they must accept their punishment.’
SKREEE!!
A piercing shriek suddenly erupted in the ears of the soldiers within a several-hundred-meter radius. Many screamed, clutching their heads as they collapsed and writhed on the ground, bright red blood streaming from their nostrils.
Watching this scene unfold on the surveillance monitors, everyone in the command center felt a suffocating pressure.
"I haven’t been here in a century. This place has certainly changed a lot."
The East King chuckled, not even glancing at the blockade surrounding him on the ground and in the sky. With a light step, he shot through their lines at an imperceptible speed and entered the city.
In the distance, the faint sound of broadcasts urging citizens to take shelter could be heard. The once-bustling streets were now empty and desolate.
"You’ve even cleared the streets to welcome me. You shouldn’t have gone to all this trouble."
The smile never left the East King’s lips. His figure flickered along the streets as he admired the roadside scenery, like one of the Immortal Gods descending to tour the mortal realm.
Nothing could stop him. Nothing could restrain him.
’I have to admit, the scenery of a modern city has its own unique charm,’ he thought. ’It’s just that the wailing sirens and those buzzing flies in the sky are a bit too annoying.’
He could sense that among those "flies," there were some that posed a faint threat to him.
’The strategic weapons of the Mortal World, perhaps?’
He performed a hand seal. Blazing light gathered in his palm, coalescing into the shape of a palm-sized Golden Crow.
The moment the Golden Crow left his palm, it cried out and soared into the sky, growing larger and larger as it ascended.
"Increase altitude!! Do not enter the range of that phenomenon!!"
"Break formation! Break formation now!"
"..."
Chaotic shouts filled the pilots’ internal communications as the various low-altitude aircraft rapidly gained height.
The buzzing noise that the East King had found so grating finally vanished.
Inside the command center, everyone watched the scene unfold, their fists clenched, unconsciously breaking out in a cold sweat.
’Will he act recklessly?’
If push came to shove, they would have no choice but to resort to special measures.
Fortunately, however, the Donghua Group’s worst fears did not come to pass.
The massive, cawing Golden Crow hovered above the East King’s head, but he showed no intention of launching a malicious attack. He was merely like a tourist, moving through the city with the speed of Shrinking Inches, admiring the sights of the modern metropolis.
The Donghua Group had guessed one thing correctly.
Although there was enmity between them, the East King was unwilling to complicate matters and stir up too much trouble before the struggle in the Mediterranean Region was over.
In his mind, hatred and emotion were unimportant. For the sake of clues possibly related to the Earth Immortal Realm, he could endure or even abandon anything.
But that wasn’t the only reason. In truth, while the strategic weapons of the Mortal World could threaten him, they were merely a threat. What he truly feared lay buried beneath the land of Donghua.
All the Sons.
This was the name of the Secret Organization in the Donghua and East Asia regions.
Although this Secret Organization was not well-known on the world stage and didn’t even seem to be heavily involved in the conflict over the Mediterranean Region, that didn’t mean the organization had no presence in the Hidden Realm.
In fact, in terms of its history and influence, the organization known as All the Sons had once been among the most prominent in the world.
But a period of internal turmoil more than a century ago had caused a great schism within All the Sons, leading to a sharp decline in the activities of secret powers within the Donghua Region.
Even today, many of the Ancient Ones in the Pioneer Group had come from All the Sons. The East King himself had once been a member before discovering and taking control of Penglai Immortal Island.
Xu Fu was but one of his many identities, and not even his most ancient one.
And even he could not fathom the true depths of All the Sons.
There was no telling how many secrets lay buried beneath this vast and ancient land.
Even now that he was a Sleeper, he was unwilling to cause too great a disturbance on this land, lest he interfere with the plans of certain beings or startle some ancient fossils who were as good as dead.
