Chapter 149: FRIDA Chapter 149
"Report." Master Song said.
She went on her knees "Lady Mary killed her brother Lord Eric. The rest of the family were killed by food poisoning that night.
"The bride disappeared without a trace and everyone who knew her had been disposed of."
"The whole immediate family of Lord Warris has been annihilated and Lady Mary has taken the blame as the killer after she killed herself." She said in one breath still in disbelief that everything had played out like that.
"Excellent work." Master Song said with a clap "I am proud of you."
She looked at him in confusion "But you never told me my mission."
"Oh I did. I said wait until you receive the message." He grinned.
"What was the message?" she asked, still battling confusion.
"No message was the message, the Warris family had been stealing under the emperor’s nose. It’s not a surprise that they were annihilated." he explained.
She sighed, "Still, to kill everyone in their family is a bit much."
"It is but the emperor has been getting rid of the rebellious families one way or the other, your entrance was just part of a bigger plan." Master Song encouraged her by tapping her shoulder.
"Master, I’m not sure I’m cut out for this." She said politely.
"Of course you are, you are a natural talent so prepare yourself you are heading to the palace next." he told her and her body froze.
"The palace?" she swallowed.
"The palace isn’t some ordinary lord’s household, going in there could literally be a death sentence." She hesitated.
"Master, can’t you send someone else, like Snowflake he is much more cut out for this." She murmured under her breath, her nail flicking her other nails off.
"It is your destiny to go to the royal palace, you can’t escape it. Don’t you want to know who your real parents are? or do you really think the giants are your real family?" he asked and for a while she had actually forgotten she was playing a character in the book and it was still being written since her original character died.
"No master, what must I do?"
"You must kill the emperor." he said in a low tone and she stiffened looking left and right.
"Master what you just uttered can get us killed." she whispered in breath.
Master Song continued "Us meeting is not a coincidence child, you are the daughter of the late emperor, it is your destiny to take the throne as you are his only surviving heir after the current emperor murdered him."
"But I have no army. I have no power, no allies. I’m just a single person walking into the castle would be as good as putting a knife to my throat master."
He smiled at her "You are chosen and you can do anything you put your mind to. The moment I saw you and you bargained with me instead of cowering in the face of death, I was sure then you would be a capable empress."
She balled her hand into a fist and nodded rising to her feet "Be strong. Only the strong will survive."
The weight of the responsibility placed on her shoulders was heavy.
Was she really capable of murdering the emperor?
To be honest if anything it seemed like her master was throwing her into the lion’s den.
She entered her room, they had seized a small property from some nobles who had owed her master money a while back.
They had settled down quickly and the place now felt like a home.
To be leaving as soon as she returned was quite discomforting.
As a spy she was a trained equivalent of a soldier only they avoided combat most of the time.
The duty of a spy was to blend in and not stand out. She felt someone’s presence and reach for her dagger in her boot.
She swung her arm twisting her body to strike who was behind her and he caught her arm with an arrogant smirk. "Relax, did I frighten you?" he released her arm.
"Snowflake." She greeted rolling her arm that hurt from his grip.
"In the flesh." he sat on the mattress.
"I can’t believe you went through with it." Snowflake smirked.
She rolled her eyes "Why because you feel women aren’t capable of being spies.
"Well yes and no, not women just you." he remarked with that irritating smirk of his.
"There’s a reason I am a top spy in this crew." she said as she filled her clothes with weapons in different hiding spots.
Tying a small scarf around her face. "Because master song favors you and master wind hopes you’ll be targeted and be killed in your sleep."
"Well aren’t you a bundle of joy." she remarked sarcastically as he dropped a tray of food before.
"Eat before I throw it on the floor." he threatened and she sat down on the mattress digging into the soup with the hunger of a bear.
She shook her head "Lord Warris was a cruel man, he starved his servants and made us work twice the amount we were paid. How horrible."
"Aren’t all masters the same?" Snowflake remarked as she gulped down the meal with a jar of water.
"Perhaps, but master Song truly cares for his men." She said,
"You trust him completely don’t you, master song?" Snowflake shook his head, "That’s why I disagree with you being a top spy, you are too naive."
"Well thanks for the meal, see you after the mission. If I’m lucky."She said exiting the room.
Snowflake followed quietly behind her watching her go into the moonlight "Try not to die this time."
"I won’t." She said mounting her horse and riding into the moonlight. She dropped off the horse at a nice stable and continued her journey on foot so as not to draw attention.
The palace was heavily guarded, she spent hours observing the surroundings and nothing was of place.
She waited for a mistake, a maid sneaking food to a guard outside.
As the maid turned to return back to the palace after the guard left first. She ran quietly and grabbed the maid from behind, striking the neck with her palm in the open.
The maid collapsed, she left the body to draw attention and ran hiding by the wall.
"Who’s there?" the guard asked cautiously, walking closer to the maid’s body. "Is she dead?"
