Red had a satisfied smile when he saw the progress. Most of his attributes were halfway to the next level. He needed to hunt similar groups for like three or four times to reach level 9. His Fireball got one level as well, and another piece of good news was that he got a new skill as well, [Bow Mastery].
[Bow Mastery (Passive): Increase the user’s proficiency with bows. As mastery grows, increase user accuracy, draw speed, shooting range, and damage while reducing stamina consumption.]
His eyes gleamed in excitement as he read the skill description. Another skill that was easy to understand. In simple terms, the skill made him better with the bow.
"But how do I get this skill?" This was the second time that he learned a skill without using a skill scroll.
He got [Mana Authority] last night and now [Bow Mastery]. It was not a complaint; he just tried to figure out how this thing worked. He got the skills after more than ten shots, killing eleven kobolds.
However, he had hunted a lot with his Spear Throw as well as Slingshot, yet he didn’t get a new skill for them. He used his blade to hack and kill as well. He didn’t have a skill for the blade as well.
Red let out a sigh, "I guess it’s just another mystery that I need to figure out."
He looked down, scanning the surroundings. The equipment was better than most he could find from the village’s armory. It could help the village if he could bring them back. But the risk was too big with a big group of kobolds roaming around.
"It’s a pity," he shook his head.
Red continued his search, starting from the area where he killed the kobolds. He could not find another group after looking for quite some time. He increased the scope of his search further.
It didn’t take long for him to find another big group once he went further. A group of sixteen kobolds, but only fourteen of them were standing. The fourteen kobolds were surrounding three beasts, Jakar.
The two kobolds on the ground were still alive. One was in critical condition, his neck lost a chunk of meat as blood streamed down. The second kobold was leaning against the tree, with both sides of its calves torn.
Fortunately for Red, those two were the ones with a bow, an archer. He quickly scanned the group again, trying to find the remaining archers, if there were any. As he expected, there were two more archers, positioned behind the armored kobolds, standing on top of the root that made them an easy target.
Red didn’t hesitate to pull his arrow and started to aim at the archer. He must take action before the kobolds take down the three Jakar.
Whoosh!
His first arrow hit the target, right at the head. The arrow pierced through the head to the back. It fell over that quickly, which alarmed the rest. Again, they could not find where the attacker was.
Red took the chance to fire the second arrow and hit the head again, killing the second archer consecutively. That caused a panic among the kobolds. The Jakar didn’t miss the chance as they pounced on the same target, overwhelming the goblin with a spear and leather armor.
The group was distracted again by the Jakar, but only half of them tried to help the kobold who had been attacked by the Jakar. The remaining half were still afraid of the unknown attacker.
The Jakar didn’t finish off their target, leaving that one kobold bleeding when seven kobolds tried to help. The situation got more chaotic. They tried to surround the Jakar again, but their formation wavered.
The one that got pounced by the Jakar remained on the ground, bleeding on the arm and thigh. It hissed in pain, wriggling, struggling to get back up.
Meanwhile, Red took the chance to reposition himself, getting one tree closer. As he moved, he identified the second target. The one with a round shield and a curved blade.
After the last hunt, he knew his arrow was strong enough to pierce the armor. He didn’t hesitate to aim at the armored kobold.
He took an arrow, pulling the bow to his limit as he aimed at the target. Then he released the arrow. The whole thing took him less than ten seconds, much faster compared to the previous hunt.
The sound of clanking resounded as the arrow embedded in the oblivious kobold, sending the body to fall to the side. He drew the second arrow, aiming at the second fully armored kobold.
The arrow hit the side of its head, and the kobold saw where the arrow was coming from. One of the kobolds said something in their language, and the remaining nine kobolds quickly gathered around it.
There were two more kobolds with a round shield. It stood in the front, and the remaining seven stood behind it. They had their backs against one of the closest trees, hoping to cover their back with a giant tree while looking toward the tree from which the arrow came. They all looked up, trying to find the attacker.
Fortunately for them, the Jakar took the chance to flee. The moment the encirclement broke apart, they didn’t hesitate to turn around and run away. That eased their concern that the Jakar might jump on one of them.
Unfortunately for them, Red already repositioned himself. He was standing above them. That was right, he was now on the tree they hoped to use as a cover.
The kobolds were clumped together, so close to each other. He was not going to use his bow this time. He put the bow on his back and directed his right hand to the ground.
Red put his focus on feeling the mana inside him. He used double the mana to activate the fireball before, and he tried to increase it further, four times more mana than it was supposed to be. It required more of his focus as he pulled four times more mana.
The fire swirled and formed the shape of a ball. He thought the size of his fireball would increase, but the size got smaller than the previous one. The fireball was the size of his fist, not four times bigger than his fist.
The surprise was the lack of control in his skill. He sensed instability in his fireball and could hold it longer than usual. He had to shoot the fireball right after.
The fireball shot down, aiming at the center of the group. None of them seemed to notice the incoming fireball until it hit one of them.
