Chapter 1330: Sudden Killing Intent

Translator: CinderTL

Wu Qinghan, a cultivator in the early stage of Divine Transformation, served as the steward of the Wu Clan’s thousand acres spirit field. She was Wu Bo’s only surviving descendant, his fifth-generation granddaughter, and a close confidante of Wu Lingzhu.

This information came from intelligence provided by Mo Yexue.

Song Wen’s true purpose for this journey was to assassinate Wu Bo and avenge Lan Chen.

However, Wu Bo rarely left the Wu Clan’s stronghold and seldom appeared in public, making it difficult for Song Wen to find an opportunity to strike.

To lure Wu Bo out, Wu Qinghan was the perfect bait.

Yet Wu Qinghan, despite her position as steward of the spirit field, also lived a secluded life, rarely venturing beyond its boundaries. Most affairs within the spirit field were handled by her subordinates.

Therefore, the moment Song Wen saw Wu Lingzhu, he resolved to use her to approach Wu Qinghan.

As for the jade slip he entrusted to the guards, it contained a message from Song Wen:

It expressed his mutual affection with Wu Lingzhu, but due to a misunderstanding, she had stopped speaking to him. He implored Wu Qinghan to intervene and persuade Wu Lingzhu to meet him face-to-face so they could clarify the misunderstanding.

After waiting for about fifteen minutes, the middle-aged male cultivator who had taken the jade slip emerged from the mountain valley, followed by a female cultivator.

The female cultivator’s appearance was unremarkable.

Hmm...

Her other features were equally plain.

She matched Wu Qinghan’s description in the intelligence reports perfectly.

"You’re Jiang Yushan?" Wu Qinghan asked, her voice deep as she scrutinized Song Wen.

"This humble one is indeed Jiang Yushan. Greetings, Fellow Daoist Wu," Song Wen replied, clasping his hands in a respectful bow.

"Is Wu Lingzhu truly devoted to you?" Wu Qinghan pressed.

"Absolutely true. I would never dare deceive Fellow Daoist Wu. This morning, I inadvertently angered Fairy Lingzhu. I implore you to help me secure an opportunity to apologize to her in person," Song Wen said, bowing deeply.

Wu Qinghan seemed to consider something, a faint smile gradually spreading across her face.

"I can persuade Wu Lingzhu to meet you. However, since you wish to apologize, you can’t come empty-handed, can you?"

Song Wen replied, "Fellow Daoist Wu, I understand Fairy Lingzhu has been short on spirit stones recently. I’ve sold some spiritual materials and obtained forty thousand high-grade spirit stones. To express my sincerity, I offer them all as an apology."

"You seem genuinely sincere," Wu Qinghan nodded in satisfaction. "Then go to the Jade Pavilion and reserve a high-grade spirit banquet. Wu Lingzhu and I will arrive before noon."

Song Wen’s face momentarily lit up with barely suppressed joy, but the expression quickly faded, replaced by a look of concern.

"Fellow Daoist Wu," he said, "the dishes at the Jade Pavilion are quite expensive. A proper meal there would cost at least ten thousand high-grade spirit stones. That would leave me with very little of my forty thousand high-grade spirit stones, making it difficult to alleviate Fairy Lingzhu’s urgent needs. Would you consider meeting at a more secluded, uninhabited location?"

"It seems you truly care deeply for Wu Lingzhu, considering her needs so carefully," Wu Qinghan remarked. "Very well, then you choose the meeting place."

"How about Rainbow Drink Ravine, five hundred li north of River Pan City?" Song Wen suggested.

"Outside the city?" Wu Qinghan seemed surprised.

"The city is crowded and full of prying eyes, and Fairy Lingzhu has many admirers," Song Wen explained anxiously. "I fear that if we run into them, unforeseen complications might arise."

Wu Qinghan’s lips curled into a faint smile as she gave Song Wen a meaningful look.

"Rainbow Drink Ravine is a suitable place. Let’s meet there."

With those words, she soared into the air and flew toward Wushang Lake.

Song Wen watched her disappear into the distance before turning north and flying off in the opposite direction.

Rainbow Drink Ravine.

A crystal-clear torrent surged from the cliff’s summit, cascading down in a thunderous roar.

Spray erupted like shattered jade, plummeting hundreds of feet before crashing into the deep pool below.

The waterfall’s impact against the rocks reverberated like thunder, sending a misty spray skyward. Sunlight refracted through the mist, creating a vibrant rainbow bridge that arched across the ravine.

Song Wen stood on a massive boulder beside the pool, his gaze fixed anxiously on the southern horizon.

Only when two slender figures materialized did the urgency on his face fade, replaced by elation.

The newcomers were Wu Qinghan and Wu Lingzhu.

Wu Lingzhu wore an expression of reluctance, half-resisting as Wu Qinghan tugged her forward.

The two women finally halted in mid-air, several hundred feet from Song Wen.

"Fairy Lingzhu, you’ve finally arrived!" Song Wen exclaimed, his voice trembling with excitement. He moved to approach, but Wu Qinghan’s sharp voice stopped him.

"Jiang Yushan, hold! Though I’ve brought Lingzhu here, she remains furious. Whether you can appease her depends entirely on your sincerity."

Song Wen glanced at the two women, then toward River Pan City. He secretly abandoned his plan to immediately capture them.

Capturing the two women alive would be simple enough. However, their proximity to River Pan City meant that any use of spiritual power would alert the Wu Clan members in both the city and Wushang Lake, drawing a swarm of reinforcements.

Whether he chose to flee immediately or confront them directly, Song Wen would inevitably reveal his true strength, alerting the entire Wu Clan, including Wu Bo. This would drastically complicate his quest for revenge.

This was precisely why Song Wen hadn’t acted directly to capture Wu Qinghan outside the Spirit Field earlier.

For safety’s sake, he needed to subdue the two women silently and without a trace.

With this in mind, Song Wen adopted an expression of deep remorse.

"Fairy Lingzhu, today’s events were entirely my fault. I’ve let you down."

He flipped his palm, revealing a storage ring.

"This ring contains nearly forty thousand high-grade spirit stones. Apart from a few Spirit Treasures, it represents my entire fortune. Fairy Lingzhu, I know you’ve been desperately short on spirit stones lately. I hope these can help you through this difficult time. Of course, mere spirit stones can’t possibly compensate for the harm I’ve caused you. I simply want you to know that I sincerely regret my actions, and I hope you can feel the sincerity of my remorse."

Despite his words, Song Wen showed no intention of tossing the storage ring. Instead, he gazed at Wu Lingzhu with a hopeful and deeply affectionate expression.

"Jiang Yushan, you’re certainly sincere. But how could Lingzhu accept your spirit stones so easily? If word got out, people would think she’s greedy for wealth. Give me the storage ring. I’ll give it to her once her anger has subsided."

Wu Qinghan suddenly spoke, pausing before continuing.

"You mentioned earlier that you have a few Spirit Treasures as well?"

A flicker of surprise crossed Song Wen’s eyes.

As Wu Bo’s only blood relative, Wu Qinghan seemed even more avaricious than Wu Lingzhu. Shouldn’t she already have plenty of spirit stones?

Though inwardly puzzled, Song Wen maintained a composed expression and nodded in agreement.

"Indeed. My elders bestowed them upon me, concerned for my safety during my travels."

Wu Qinghan’s gaze swept toward Wu Lingzhu, who happened to meet her eyes at that very moment.

The two women exchanged a glance, a cold glint flashing briefly in their eyes.

They descended gracefully, landing on the massive boulder where Song Wen stood, positioning themselves on either side of him in a pincer formation.

"Fellow Daoist Jiang, I forgive you," Wu Lingzhu declared.

"Really?" Song Wen’s face lit up with joy.

Wu Lingzhu nodded slightly. "However, if you ever betray me again, you’ll end up like this water!"

She raised her hand and made a gentle slicing motion toward the cascading waterfall above.

A condensed, thread-like beam of icy light shot from her fingertip, instantly bisecting the thousand-zhang waterfall.

The surging silver river was abruptly severed. The upper half of the waterfall hung suspended in mid-air for a moment before resuming its descent. The lower half exploded into countless droplets, showering down upon the trio.

Song Wen’s attention was immediately drawn upward to the waterfall.

The two women’s eyes blazed with murderous intent as they locked their gazes on Song Wen.

As the spray engulfed them, twin beams of icy light erupted from the women’s hands, lunging toward Song Wen.
