Chapter 320: Chapter 308: X-ray Vision Superpower?
To block the corrosive mist and green energy from the outside world from entering the base, Flora Bloom had to have her sentient plants completely surround it.
A few gutsy kids with superpowers and a thirst for adventure had already formed a group and delved into the overgrown thicket that Flora Bloom controlled.
Flora Bloom speechlessly sensed them getting lost yet still excited inside the thicket. She had no choice but to control the root system beneath the grass, shifting them back inside the base.
However, it was as if these wannabe adventurers had gotten addicted to the game. The next day, they ganged up again, roping in even more like-minded friends to venture into the overgrown thicket.
Fed up, Flora Bloom simply trapped them inside. She decided to use this time to get everything in the base properly arranged.
In the yard of the three villas they occupied, including Villa Number Three, they had already started trying to plant fruits and vegetables. Flora Bloom had collected a lot of fruit and vegetable seeds before the apocalypse, and now they were coming in handy.
Although Jade was now the logistics captain, besides distributing food, she didn’t have much to do each day. So, she roped Maeve Preston, Lisa, and Caleb into picking up her old familiar farm work, taking up planting again. Ever since Jade had awakened her superpower, her constitution had improved, and the chronic illnesses she’d suffered from for years had all vanished without any treatment.
Now, she could till the land without seeming to tire at all. Caleb obediently helped sow seeds, while Lisa used a washbasin to help with the watering. The one adult and two children were having a wonderful time being busy.
Meanwhile, when Shelly woke up this time, she had awakened a very useless yet bizarre superpower. Even Flora Bloom didn’t know what category it belonged to. But if this superpower had awakened in some man with ulterior motives, he would have been in for quite a treat.
X-ray vision.
The superpower Shelly awakened wasn’t Water, Fire, Earth, Metal, Plant, or a Spiritual Ability—it was X-ray vision. Her power allowed her to see through the surface of any object to the substance within.
Flora Bloom summoned Shelly, planning to test her superpower for any special qualities. If it was just X-ray vision, it seemed far too useless.
Shelly stood before Flora Bloom. On her cute little face, a golden, energetic light suddenly flashed in her pupils.
Suddenly, Flora Bloom felt a strange sensation in her body. It was especially pronounced in her lower abdomen, where a peculiar energy seemed to be circling, as if it were sizing something up.
"Flora, your baby looks so healthy," Shelly exclaimed.
Flora Bloom raised an eyebrow. "Were you just looking at my stomach?"
"Yeah."
Shelly nodded with a grin. "If I had this ability before the apocalypse, I could have been a doctor! Maybe even the best doctor ever."
"Continue."
Shelly focused her mind, and the golden energy in her eyes flared brightly. At that moment, Flora Bloom suddenly felt the air around her thicken. Her breath caught, and even her heartbeat seemed to slow.
But Shelly, having just awakened her power, suddenly felt as if all the strength had been drained from her body. She went limp and was about to collapse.
"Shelly!" Joel Bloom appeared out of nowhere; even Flora Bloom hadn’t noticed his presence. He rushed over and caught Shelly, his face full of concern. "Are you okay?"
Shelly, her face pale, shook her head. "I’m fine! It’s probably just because I just awakened my superpower and I’m not used to it. I used up all my energy at once."
Flora Bloom, however, was rather surprised. ’An X-ray vision superpower can also control heartbeats? That’s too bizarre, isn’t it?’
"Shelly, were you staring at my heart just now?" Flora Bloom asked.
Shelly nodded. "Yeah. But when I was looking at your heart, I felt really tired, and my superpower drained a lot faster."
Flora Bloom looked at her brother, who was supporting Shelly. "Take Shelly back to rest. Shelly, take these Crystal Cores and raise your Superpower Level first."
Shelly didn’t take the Crystal Cores Flora Bloom offered. "Flora, I can’t take these! My superpower is just so... It’s a total waste to use Crystal Cores on me. Everyone needs them to level up. You should give them to Uncle Hua, Mr. Wallace, and the others!"
Flora Bloom smiled and tossed the Crystal Cores into Joel Bloom’s hands. "You hold them for her. Take Shelly back to rest."
Shelly’s face flushed. "Flora! They’re my Crystal Cores, why are you making him hold them?" As she spoke, she tried to pull away from Joel Bloom’s supporting arm and stand on her own, but her legs went weak, and she nearly fell.
"Shelly, don’t try to act tough. You just awakened your power, and a Level 1 user’s energy depletes quickly. Your spiritual power is very weak at Level 1 and gets exhausted easily. Let Joel take you back. If you don’t let your spiritual power recover properly, be careful of lasting complications!"
After saying her piece, Flora Bloom left the two of them to stare at each other and went out into the yard.
Jade was still out planting with Lisa and Caleb. Selina was stroking her nearly eight-month-pregnant belly, pacing back and forth under a nearby tree for a walk.
Maeve Preston was nearby, using her instincts as an obstetrician to direct and supervise Selina’s walking frequency and duration, telling her how often to rest.
Flora Bloom walked over and saw Caleb and Lisa, their little hands and faces covered in dirt, happily digging in the mud to bury seeds.
When they saw Flora Bloom approach, Caleb happily ran over to her. "Flora, come quick! Auntie Jade taught us so much. Look over there!" Caleb pointed to where Lisa was currently burying something in the mud. "That’s the apple tree I’m planting for my little niece. By the time she’s born, it will definitely have sprouted! When she gets bigger, I’ll bring her here every day to water the fruit tree!"
"Me too, me too! When Flora’s baby is born, I’ll play with her too!"
The sun was gone from the sky overhead, making the whole world seem gloomy. But as Caleb and Lisa, covered head to toe in mud, circled around her, laughing and playing, while Jade worriedly chased after them from behind.
"Be careful! The ground’s just been watered, you’ll get your feet all muddy if you step there! Aiyaya, Lisa, watch out for Caleb!"
"Flora, you should stand back a bit. These two little troublemakers can’t stay still for a second."
"It’s okay, Jade! Caleb is a superpower user; a fall won’t hurt him!"
’A scene like this was something she would never have even dared to imagine in her past life.’
’Back then, Polly had been exceptionally well-behaved and intelligent from birth. She never cried or fussed when they were out, and she never made a ruckus back at the Mirefall base. After turning three, she ate by herself and played by herself, so sensible it was heartbreaking.’
’Thinking back on it now, that intelligent, wise, quiet, and steady personality must have been inherited from her father.’
She stroked her own belly. "Polly, when you’re born, you’ll have playmates. Are you happy?"
Selina walked over to Flora Bloom’s side. "Flora, you must be over four months along now." She stroked her own belly, her eyes filled with a mother’s gentle love, yet her face was etched with worry.
"Yes, a hundred and forty days. Selina, when’s your due date?"
The tension on Selina’s face grew. "Fifty-three days until my due date. Flora, I don’t know what’s wrong, but I’ve been feeling so anxious lately."
"Selina, this is your first, isn’t it?" Flora asked. Selina nodded.
"It’s normal to be nervous with your first baby, and it’s normal for your mind to run wild."
Maeve Preston, who was standing nearby, laughed when she heard Flora Bloom’s words. "You know about this at your young age? You say that as if this isn’t your first time, either."
