Chapter 4: Chapter 4: My Sister is a Fairy
Cecilia Sterling didn’t sleep well the first night. Subconsciously, she was terrified, afraid she would wake up and find it had all been just a dream.
So when she woke up the next day, her head felt a little groggy.
After a quick wash and getting ready, the first thing she did upon returning to school was to find her advisor.
"Change dorm rooms?"
In the hallway, John Lawson, holding a stack of books, looked at Cecilia Sterling in surprise. "Why?" he asked.
"I don’t get along with my roommates. Director Lawson, could you please do me a favor and ask the staff at the Student Housing Office about getting me a different room?"
In John Lawson’s mind, Cecilia Sterling was an outstanding student. After the college entrance exams, the school’s admissions office had personally visited her home to recruit her.
With a college entrance exam score of 714, she could have had her pick of any university in the country.
That was why he always took matters concerning Cecilia seriously.
He adjusted the black-rimmed glasses on his nose and asked in a low, serious voice, "Are the other students in your dorm bullying you?"
’Bullying?’
’That was all in my past life.’
Cecilia sighed. "We just don’t get along. Director Lawson, please don’t ask about the rest."
Seeing her like this, John Lawson didn’t press further and just nodded. "Alright, then. I’ll go ask for you in a bit. I’ll send you a WhatsApp message if there’s any news. Remember, you have to tell me if anything comes up, you hear?"
Cecilia smiled and nodded. "I know. Thank you, Director Lawson."
Cecilia checked the class schedule in the group chat and saw that she happened to have no classes today. Just then, her younger sister, Lily Sterling, sent her a message.
[Sis, I’m all settled in at school. The freshman military training starts in a couple of days. Are you free anytime soon?]
Her sister, Lily Sterling, was a freshman this year. But unlike Cecilia, Lily was an arts-track student who had tested into the Cathay Film Academy with a top-fifty rank nationwide.
[I’m free today. Let’s have dinner this afternoon. I’ll come find you.]
After leaving campus, Cecilia took a cab straight to Omnia Mall.
In the Apple Store, Cecilia couldn’t help but feel a daze as she looked at the price tags on the various digital products. She even found it a little funny.
The latest top-spec iPhone 16 was priced at 1.9888 dollars.
A laptop, priced at 1.2888 dollars.
Nothing in sight cost more than ten dollars.
She bought a full set—phone, computer, tablet, and headphones. The total came to less than five dollars.
Then she went to a top luxury brand and bought four high-end skincare sets before taking a cab straight to her sister’s school.
Cathay Film Academy, women’s dorm room 507. Bursts of girlish laughter could be heard from inside.
"Did you guys see those guys from Class 8 of our department this morning?"
"You mean the ones on the basketball court? I saw them, I saw them! They were so handsome. That one, Zack Holden? He went viral for his looks even before the entrance exams. I even followed him online. I can’t believe he’s even more handsome in person!"
"Right? Our department is still the best. I made a point to check out the directing and broadcasting departments, and they’re just not on the same level."
"Look at you being all picky! Our department has plenty of pretty girls, too!"
The three girls gathered together, eating snacks and discussing the handsome freshmen. The atmosphere was lively and harmonious.
Only Lily Sterling was leaning against her bed, fiddling with her phone without a word.
"Lily, come on down! Have some chips and chat with us!"
"Yeah, the chips Nina bought are delicious. They’re an imported brand. Come try some."
Her two roommates enthusiastically invited her, but Lily just shook her head and said softly, "You guys go ahead. I’m afraid of gaining weight."
"You’re so skinny, and you’re worried about gaining weight?"
"Exactly. You don’t need to watch your weight right now. Once the freshman military training starts in a couple of days, you’ll have plenty of time to slim down. Hurry up and come down."
Lily was about to refuse again, but Anna Sanders was already reaching up to pull her down. "Oh, come on, don’t be such an I-person. The three of us are all E-people. You have to join in, or it’ll look like we’re isolating you."
Helpless, Lily could only climb down from her bed.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to fit in, but deep down, she felt insecure.
Unlike her, her three roommates were all from Lorcain and came from wealthy families. When they first moved in, they had all tacitly prepared gifts for one another.
Nina had given everyone an affordable luxury bracelet, which Lily had looked up and found cost a little over forty cents.
Anna Sanders had gifted everyone a pair of designer sunglasses, which were almost twenty cents.
Hannah Warner’s gift was a beauty salon card with a value of thirty-eight cents.
Only she had prepared local specialties from Veridia, which had cost less than three cents in total.
Although they had all seemed happy to receive her gift, Lily couldn’t help but feel embarrassed by the comparison.
It wasn’t her roommates who were isolating her; subconsciously, she was isolating herself.
"Lily, have you always been like this?"
Anna Sanders took the initiative to speak with her, wanting to get to know her better.
Lily nodded and said softly, "Well, I have an older sister and a younger brother at home. I’m the middle child. In families with three kids, the middle one is usually the invisible one, so I never really learned how to communicate well with others growing up."
Hannah Warner was slightly taken aback. "Huh? You’re so pretty, but you still get ignored by your family?"
"My sister is much prettier than me."
"For real?" Hannah Warner was skeptical, astonished. "Then wouldn’t your sister have to be a goddess?"
Lily’s thin lips pressed together as she actually nodded. "In my eyes, she is a goddess."
Hearing this, her roommates exchanged smiles, all assuming Lily just had a major sister complex.
Nina Zimmer looked Lily over and said with a smile, "Actually, your type of beauty is quite popular in the acting world. You have those delicate features with a touch of classic beauty. You’d probably look great in both historical and modern costumes. But your personality won’t work. If a film crew came to our school to scout for talent, would you even dare to audition?"
The other two nodded in agreement. "Nina’s right. You have the assets, but you also have to be able to seize the opportunity."
Lily listened obediently without arguing, because she knew her roommates were right and were just looking out for her.
Outside the dorm room, Cecilia had actually arrived a while ago. Hearing a lot of noise from inside, she stood at the door and eavesdropped for a moment.
’My sister’s roommates seem like nice girls. She’s much luckier than I was.’
Seeing that the time was right, she knocked gently on the door.
"Who is it?"
Hannah Warner got up to open the door. The moment it opened, her eyes lit up.
’What a beautiful woman.’
"Who are you looking for?" As she spoke, her voice unconsciously went up a pitch.
"Sis?"
Lily was stunned when she saw her sister at the door. "Why are you here all of a sudden?" she blurted out.
The roommates looked at each other, their expressions slightly shocked.
’So this is Lily’s ’goddess’ sister?’
’She really does look like one!’
Hannah Warner quickly ushered her in. Cecilia handed the bags she was holding to the girls, saying, "I brought you all some gifts. A set of skincare products. I hope you like them."
