Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Makeup Test

Suzanne Sawyer darted forward to stop a staff member who was about to turn and leave. She asked in a low voice, "Sir, why didn’t that Lily Sterling have to wait in line? We arrived at pretty much the same time."

’Even if someone got to skip the line, it should have been me, right?’

’I’m the investor’s daughter, for crying out loud. Don’t I even get this small privilege for paying my way onto the cast?’

The staff member was already dizzy from being so busy and was in a foul mood. So even though Suzanne Sawyer’s tone was polite enough, he scowled impatiently and said coldly, "Enough with the questions. Just do as you’re told and follow the arrangements."

His voice wasn’t loud, but it was clear enough for those nearby to hear. Several people glanced over, their eyes filled with varying degrees of mockery and contempt.

Suzanne Sawyer had never been treated like this in her entire life. However, she knew she couldn’t just announce that she had paid her way onto the set. She pulled out her phone, walked to the side, and called her father to complain, feeling utterly wronged.

Meanwhile, Lily Sterling, under the envious gazes of the crowd, led Hannah Warner into the makeup room designated by the staff.

The makeup room wasn’t large. The curtains were drawn, and the lighting was dim. There were only two makeup stations, and one was already occupied.

When she saw who it was, Hannah Warner slapped a hand over her mouth in excitement and let out a choked cry, "Oh my god, Lily! It’s Andrew Sutton!"

Andrew Sutton. A popular young star who had both immense fame and genuine talent. His team was incredibly skilled at picking scripts; in the three years since his debut, he hadn’t been in a single flop. All he needed was one more blockbuster hit, and he would undoubtedly become the next top-tier male actor.

This was also Lily Sterling’s first time seeing a celebrity up close, and she felt a small thrill of excitement and nervousness.

"You’re Lily Sterling, right?"

The makeup artist, Winnie, saw them come in, put down her coffee, and stood up to greet them.

Lily Sterling nodded quickly, pulling her gaze away from Andrew Sutton. She stepped forward politely and said, "Hello, Ma’am."

Out of professional habit, Winnie naturally sized up Lily Sterling’s face before smiling in satisfaction. "You’ve got great features, young lady. Have a seat!"

Celebrity makeup artists loved working with people who had good natural features; it saved them a lot of time and effort.

It was Lily Sterling’s first makeup trial, and she had no experience whatsoever. After sitting down, she froze, not daring to move a muscle.

Winnie chuckled at the sight and casually opened a makeup bag on the table. Lily Sterling glanced at it and saw that it was filled with designer brands.

Then began the silent makeup application. Neither of the two actors, one male and one female, nor the two makeup artists spoke. The atmosphere in the small makeup room was so quiet it was almost suffocating.

The only one showing any emotion was Hannah Warner, who was sitting on a chair by the door. Her eyes sparkled as she stared endlessly at Andrew Sutton, practically glued to him.

She was also busy showing off in her dorm’s group chat. If a staff member hadn’t just said that photos were forbidden, she would have secretly snapped a hundred pictures to take back with her.

Just then, the door to the makeup room was pushed open, and Suzanne Sawyer walked in, her head held high like a proud peacock.

"Which one of you is Winnie?" Suzanne Sawyer asked directly.

Winnie glanced at her before replying, "I am."

"They told me to come in and find you for my makeup trial."

"What’s your name?" Winnie asked, picking up a roster from the side.

"Suzanne Sawyer."

That name wasn’t on the list of actors she was responsible for. Winnie couldn’t help but frown in confusion.

She walked to the door and called out, "Lila, come here for a second."

The staff member named Lila saw her and hurried over. "Winnie."

Winnie pointed to the list and asked, "Suzanne Sawyer isn’t on here. Did you guys make a mistake? Don’t add to my workload!"

Lila first shot a meaningful look at Suzanne Sawyer, then carefully whispered in Winnie’s ear, "Sorry to trouble you, but she’s with the investors."

Winnie understood instantly. She couldn’t stop herself from rolling her eyes to the heavens. Without another word, she dismissed Lila and shut the door.

"Sit and wait."

She then said impatiently to Suzanne Sawyer before continuing with Lily Sterling’s makeup.

Suzanne Sawyer pouted, shot a disgusted look at Hannah Warner sitting nearby, and moved a chair to sit on the other side of the room.

But when she sat down and looked up, she realized the person having a wig cap applied was none other than Andrew Sutton.

"AHH—"

She couldn’t hold back an excited shriek. Her butt, which had just touched the chair, shot right back up. She clapped a hand over her mouth in excitement. "An... Andrew Sutton!"

Applying a wig piece is a long process. The reason no one in the room was talking was that Andrew Sutton had his eyes closed, resting, so everyone else had kept quiet.

But Suzanne Sawyer’s scream made Andrew Sutton jump.

"Andrew Sutton, I’m a die-hard fan! I’ve been hooked since *Ancient Road Legend*, and I watched all of *Horse Riding and Howling West Wind* right after it finished airing last month! Oh my god, can I take a picture with you?"

Suzanne Sawyer’s voice was already tinged with tears as she spoke; she seemed to be a genuine fan.

"No pictures are allowed in here," Andrew Sutton’s makeup artist warned, her expression displeased. "You’re here for a makeup trial, not to chase after celebrities."

Rebuffed, Suzanne Sawyer could only sit back down resentfully. She then discreetly scooted her chair a little closer.

"Andrew, are you the main lead? Are you the male lead or the second male lead?"

"I’m so excited. I can’t believe I get to work with you on my very first show."

She chattered on, completely oblivious to the fact that the expressions on the faces of Andrew Sutton and both makeup artists had soured. Finally, Winnie, unable to bear it any longer, snapped, "Can you please be quiet?"

Suzanne Sawyer’s throat tightened. Seeing that Andrew Sutton wasn’t responding either, she finally shut up and sat properly.

Lily Sterling’s facial makeup was done quickly, but applying the wig and styling the hair was time-consuming. The entire process took nearly three hours to complete.

Finally, after the headpiece was secured, Winnie nodded in satisfaction. "There, you’re all set."

Lily Sterling stared at her reflection in the mirror, slightly dazed. After a long moment, she murmured, "It’s so beautiful. Thank you, Ma’am."

Winnie smiled and instructed, "Go sit over there for a bit. Someone will be here soon to take you to change into your costume and get your promotional photos taken."

Lily Sterling nodded, turned, and went to sit next to Hannah Warner. Stunned by her look, Hannah kept nodding and secretly gave her a thumbs-up. "Babe, you’re drop-dead gorgeous!"

Suzanne Sawyer, of course, also noticed Lily Sterling’s makeup and hair. With that shimmering white jade dangling hairpin fastened in her coiffure, how could that possibly be the look for a maid?

Furthermore, the makeup was exceptionally exquisite, elevating Lily Sterling’s beauty to another level.

But she didn’t say anything. Instead, she was secretly delighted. ’If a mere maid to the Fourth Miss can get such a beautiful look, then mine will definitely be no worse than hers.’

She sat down with a look of anticipation and proactively said to Winnie, "Ma’am, I’m playing Jade, the personal maid to the Second Miss, Flora."
