She knew he had returned to the military base.

He left her alone again.

She was accustomed to it, wasn’t she?

Since marrying him, loving him, she knew about his occupation; he was a soldier, not a common man. He had his responsibilities.

He couldn’t always be by her side.

Even when she needed him, he might not be there with her.

...

Just like when she gave birth to their child. Most men would be there for their wives during childbirth, but not him. He was busy with his duties.

Jingyi figured out the visitor should have returned by then, he might show up at her door.

This time, she ran into Lu Jianjun.

Lu Jianjun stared intently at the girl in front of him. Was she his sister from the same parents? His biological sister at that.

Jingyi’s face turned somewhat awkward and embarrassed.

“It’s you?” She forced out a smile and greeted him.

“I thought there was something familiar about you, now I finally understand why.” So she was his real sister, who bore a strong resemblance to their mother. Except, Jingyi was much younger and their mother had grown old, which is why he didn’t realize it at first. Once he figured it out, he saw the similarity.

Jingyi asked with a bit of bitterness, “So, do you want to acknowledge me as your sister?”

Lu Jianjun snorted coldly, “You, I am not worthy of being associated with you.”

Even if the girl in front of him was his real sister, how could he forgive her for siding with the enemy as her mother for all these years, accept her?

She had long been brainwashed.

Jingyi’s face turned slightly pale.

Too good for him.

“You, you, you…” Jingyi stuttered in anger.

“I’m fine, if nothing else, please don’t block the way, a good dog doesn’t stand in the way.”

Jingyi got even angrier, “Lu Jianjun, I am your sister.”

Lu Jianjun scoffed, “After siding with the enemy as your mother for all these years, do you still have the qualification to be my sister? You are deceived, yet still obliviously thinking that they have your best interest at heart. All the rumors about you, all the negative things that have been said about you, were all spread by your beloved mother. You are old enough, yet no one has come to propose. Your father is well-respected. Surely, many people would want to curry favor with him and hence propose to you. Yet no one has come. You’re still so naive.”

Jingyi was rooted to the spot.

Now thinking about what Lu Jianjun said, it seemed to be the truth.

Her father was the provost of the Kyoto military region. There should be a continuous stream of suitors. But, she was already almost twenty-five and not a single suitor had come. Could all this be the doing of Lin Xiao?

But why would she do this?

Could it be as her father said, because she resented Jingyi’s biological mother?

Jingyi stood there for a while, then left the military base with heavy steps.

She didn’t want to see the person who she had fallen for at first sight now, she just wanted to confront Lin Xiao. Why had she done that? Why?

Jingyi returned to the Kyoto military region.

The moment she got home, Lin Xiao greeted her with a warm smile, “Xiaojing, where have you been these past few days? You know your mother has been very worried.”

“Mom, I just want to ask you one thing.”

Lin Xiao maintained her feigned smile, “Go ahead and ask, I’ll tell you whatever I know.”

Jingyi asked loudly, “Why hasn’t anyone come home to propose when I am already twenty-five years old and should be married by now?”

Lin Xiao’s eyes flashed with a gleam of understanding, she replied with a smile, “Didn’t I tell you? Your dad wants to keep you for a couple more years.”
