Since he had to arrive tomorrow, Lu Cheng needed to leave today, leaving little time to prepare.
Shen Nian didn’t have time to prepare any food for his journey, either. Fortunately, Miao Cuifen had sent her home with plenty of things earlier, some of which Lu Cheng could take with him to eat on the way.
While packing Lu Cheng’s bags, Shen Nian suddenly thought of something and ducked into her space. When she came out, she was holding several small packets.
"These are some finished products I made while studying a few of the medicinal formulas my master left me. They’re just from me practicing, but they should work quite well. There’s one to stop bleeding, one to repel mosquitoes and other insects, and an anti-diarrheal. Take them with you for now, just in case. Next time, I’ll prepare some better pills for you."
’Before, I just randomly picked a few formulas to study. If I’d known Lu Cheng was leaving early, I would have prioritized learning a few that would be useful for him.’
’Next time, I’ll be sure to be prepared. For all of his future missions, I’ll make sure he has useful medicines ready.’
"Okay, I’ll take them all."
Lu Cheng had initially taken them all simply because they were from Shen Nian. He never expected that during the mission, the items she had prepared would turn out to be incredibly useful. But of course, that was a story for later.
"Mom and Dad must be sad to see you go. How about you go talk to them for a bit?"
Lu Cheng would be leaving soon, and Shen Nian felt it wasn’t right to monopolize his last few moments.
"The one I’ll miss the most is you. Mom and Dad... they’re used to it. I’m worried about you..."
"Don’t worry. I was perfectly fine before when you were away, wasn’t I? Mom and Dad treat me so well, and so does Xinyue. You really don’t have to worry about me here at home!"
"But I’ll miss you."
Lu Cheng pulled Shen Nian into his embrace again. He wished he could just hold her like this and take her wherever he had to go. He knew, of course, that his family would treat her well, but ’could their kindness ever compare to mine!’
Shen Nian rested her head on Lu Cheng’s chest. "I’ll miss you too. So you have to come back safely, without even a single scratch. Got it?"
"Okay. I promise you, I’ll come back in one piece."
"Not just this time. Every mission from now on, you have to come back in one piece."
Shen Nian knew that Lu Cheng’s missions could be dangerous, but she simply didn’t want him to face any danger at all.
"Okay."

"Go back inside. You don’t have to see me off."
Holding the bag Shen Nian had packed for him, Lu Cheng firmly refused his family’s offer to see him off.
He didn’t even let Shen Nian see him off. He was afraid that if he looked at her, he wouldn’t be able to bring himself to leave.
"Okay."
Shen Nian knew exactly what Lu Cheng was thinking. She was also afraid that at the last moment, she would throw caution to the wind and beg him to stay.
In the end, Shen Nian just stood in the doorway, watching as Lu Cheng walked away, step by step, until he disappeared from view.
"Sister-in-law, my brother’s gone now. Let’s go back inside."
Lu Xinyue said as she looked at Shen Nian. She completely understood how Shen Nian felt; the only thing she could do right now was offer some comfort.
"Mm, let’s go. Let’s go back inside. For the next few days, you can focus on learning how to cook and make clothes with me."
"That’s wonderful! Sister-in-law, I knew you were the best!"
Hearing Shen Nian’s words, Lu Xinyue instantly cast aside any gloom over her older brother’s departure. ’With my big brother out of the way, I’ll finally get to properly learn from my sister-in-law!’
