Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Where Do You Get the Nerve?
Miao Cuifen was already in a bad mood, and when she opened the door and saw who was standing outside, her mood soured even more.
The person outside, however, seemed thrilled to see Miao Cuifen open the door, her face wreathed in smiles.
"Oh, Cuifen, you finally opened the door! I was starting to think no one was home. What a wasted trip that would have been! Oh, I’m exhausted. Let me in so I can rest a bit!"

Miao Cuifen hadn’t said a word, but the woman outside had already rattled off a whole speech before shoving her aside and walking right in.
Shoved aside, Miao Cuifen fought back her anger. ’My daughter and son-in-law finally came home today. I can’t get angry. I can’t get angry!’
But why did this awful woman have to show up at their house at this exact moment!
The visitor was Miao Cuifen’s sister-in-law from her maiden family, Guo Chunxiang.
Normally, it was a good thing for relatives to visit one another. But as it happened, this particular sister-in-law of Miao Cuifen’s had never been an easy person to deal with.
Before Miao Cuifen was married, she had been bullied relentlessly by Guo Chunxiang at her parents’ home. To make matters worse, her own older brother always sided with his wife, blaming his younger sister for everything. This only fueled Guo Chunxiang’s arrogance.
Although her parents took her side, they were getting on in years and weren’t in the best of health. Miao Cuifen couldn’t bear to see them argue with her sister-in-law on her behalf, so most of the time, she just endured it and let it go.
Later, after marrying into the Shen family, life became much more peaceful without her sister-in-law around.
Aside from the occasional frustrations she had to endure from her sister-in-law when visiting her maiden home, Miao Cuifen felt things were much better than when she had still lived there.
’So why couldn’t this sister-in-law of hers just stay in her own home? What is she doing here?’
As soon as Guo Chunxiang entered, she saw the whole family sitting at the dining table. She paused for a fraction of a second, then smiled.
"Well now, look at all these people! You’re having a meal. Perfect! I’m hungry after that long walk. Cuifen, hurry up and get me a bowl of rice!"
As she spoke, Guo Chunxiang sat right down in the seat Miao Cuifen had just vacated, clamoring for her to fetch the rice.
Shen Nian’s expression had changed the moment she saw Guo Chunxiang shove her mother to get through the door.
In her memory, this eldest maternal aunt had always treated Miao Cuifen poorly, and by extension, she had never been pleasant to the three Shen siblings either.
Every year when they visited their maternal grandparents, her aunt would verbally abuse Miao Cuifen. Once, when they were children, Shen Xiangnan got into a squabble with his cousin. Even though it was clearly the cousin’s fault, his aunt ignored that and gave Shen Xiangnan a beating, leaving him bedridden for days.

Shen Nian settled Miao Cuifen into her own seat, then went to get a bowl of rice for Guo Chunxiang.
"Aunt, time to eat."
Shen Nian brought the bowl of rice over and placed it in front of Guo Chunxiang.
"Oh, so Shen Nian is back! That explains all the extra dishes today! But look, the food is almost gone. Shen Nian, shouldn’t you go make a few more dishes for your aunt?"
Guo Chunxiang said, looking at Shen Nian, but inwardly she was fuming. ’This damn girl, how did she keep getting prettier and prettier?’
This time, it wasn’t just Shen Nian who was angry. Everyone at the table was incensed by Guo Chunxiang’s words.
What kind of logic was this? She barges into their home, shoves the host, and steals her seat, and now she has the gall to demand that Shen Nian—who had just come home and was being doted on by her family—cook for her! Where does she get off being so shameless?
