Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Can He Wait?
"Just put everything here!"
Shen Xiangdong said as he took some of the items from Lu Cheng’s hands.
"Thank you, Big Brother!"
Shen Xiangdong glanced at Lu Cheng but didn’t say much. It was hard to tell what he thought of Lu Cheng calling him ’Big Brother,’ but at least he didn’t object.
"It must have been hard for you all these years, hasn’t it?"
Shen Xiangdong asked after they had put the things away. He wasn’t in a hurry to leave, instead watching Lu Cheng.
’Lu Cheng knew that since Shen Xiangdong had spoken up, he wouldn’t stop at just one sentence. He obviously wanted to have a serious conversation.’
"It’s been alright. After so many years, I’ve gotten used to it."
"I heard you’re planning to take Xiao Nian to B City with you?"
"That’s right. My job requires me to be there for long periods of time, or out on missions. I’ll have very little time at home. I’ll only feel at ease if I have Xiao Nian with me."
Hearing Lu Cheng’s words, Shen Xiangdong and Shen Xiangnan both gave him a long, hard look. They also wanted to keep Shen Nian with them and take care of her always. But alas, they were just her brothers. Since Shen Nian was already married, it was inevitable that she would leave home to live with her husband.
"You’re aware that you’ll frequently be away on missions. Don’t tell me you want Xiao Nian to follow you and suffer, do you?"
"Exactly! My sister has always been the most pampered one in our family. We never let her feel wronged, and we certainly never made her do any heavy chores. Don’t tell me that after marrying you, her life is going to be even worse than it was before she got married?"
Shen Xiangnan chimed in as well. In contrast to his older brother Shen Xiangdong’s honest and steady nature, Shen Xiangnan was clearly more impulsive and short-tempered. Though the meaning was roughly the same, his words sounded far more grating than his brother’s.
However, Shen Xiangdong didn’t reprimand his younger brother for his poor tone. Instead, he watched Lu Cheng, waiting for his answer.
"Big Brother, Xiang Nan, you can rest assured. No matter where we are, I won’t let Xiao Nian be wronged. My family all like Xiao Nian very much, and I’ll be there in B City. I promise I will protect her well. Xiao Nian and I have already discussed it. My company headquarters is on the outskirts of B City, and Xiao Nian will be attending university in B City. This way, she can come to my place or return to school at any time."
Hearing Lu Cheng’s words, brothers Shen Xiangdong and Shen Xiangnan exchanged a glance, and both saw surprise in the other’s eyes.
Shen Xiangnan was a little less surprised; he had, at least, gone with Shen Nian to get her report card and had a general idea that she wanted to go to university in B City.
However, this was the first he’d heard of Lu Cheng’s stance on the issue.
’They were well aware that Lu Cheng was already twenty-six years old. That was by no means young, and many men his age would be anxious to have children after getting married.’
’After all, Shen Nian and Lu Cheng were already married. Even if Lu Cheng wanted to have children, they wouldn’t be in a position to object.’
’But listening to Lu Cheng now, he was clearly very supportive of Shen Nian going to university. If he really supported her until she graduated, though, that meant they couldn’t have children for at least four years. Lu Cheng would be thirty by then. Could he really wait that long?’
"You... you really support Xiao Nian going to university?"
’Shen Nian’s grades were good, so of course, the Shen Family all supported her going to university. But the Lu Family was different! They would certainly consider Lu Cheng’s needs first.’
’Besides, even if Lu Cheng himself wasn’t in a hurry, would the rest of the Lu Family not be anxious?’
