Chapter 67: Get A job
Meng Yunhan was still daydreaming when she was woken up by Han Ruochen’s harsh and cold words.
"What!?" She whipped around and looked at Han Ruochen in shock and disbelief. "What do you mean that you have already sold the job?"
"It means that I have sold the job." Han Ruochen went inside the house; though she was talking with her mother, her attention had long been diverted to the rewards that she had earned after selling the mantis shrimp. These days, she was busy with one thing after another and didn’t check out the rewards. However, now that she had sold her job, Han Ruochen was a novice NEET. She had no intention of turning into a professional one, so she immediately returned her attention to the Sea Scanning System.
[The host has successfully sold the mantis shrimp and earned a five-metre scanning range. Would you like to use your collected points to redeem them?]
Han Ruochen didn’t expect that the scanning range could be increased. She asked the system, "Will I lose anything other than the points if I choose to redeem?"
[No.]
Only then did Han Ruochen heave a sigh of relief and exchange the points to redeem the reward.
[Congratulations. The exchange has been successfully done. Now you can cover areas within a fifteen-metre radius.]
"Can I increase the radius with each profit made?" Han Ruochen asked, but this time the system seemed to have gone offline; it did not reply to her, even though she called it a few times.
Behind her, Meng Yunhan came chasing her. Her face was flushed red, and she looked like she was going to get an aneurysm. "What did you mean by saying that you have sold your job?" Meng Yunhan felt flustered. She had planned and schemed for so long to get Han Ruochen’s job, and in the end, the one who ended up benefiting was Han Ruochen. How could she not be flustered? She was really panicked at the moment.
In her mind, she had long taken that job as her own, even if it belonged to Han Ruochen.
Han Ruochen turned and looked at her mother with a pitying gaze. She asked in a soft voice, "Is something the matter, Mom? Do you need me to take you to the doctor? How can you not understand something so simple and keep asking the same thing again and again? I have sold that job."
After hearing the same answer more than one time, Meng Yunhan could no longer fool herself. She glared at Han Ruochen, and with eyes redder than a rabbit, she raised her hand to slap Han Ruochen. "You, unfilial daughter, how dare you? How can you sell your job without telling me? Your wings have hardened to this point where you think you can do whatever you want?"
"Who are you trying to slap?" Han Yichen’s booming voice echoed from behind, and Meng Yunhan paused. However, her hand was raised, and she just couldn’t bring it down because it made her feel humiliated. Spinning on her feet, she turned to look at her husband and asked with a tearful expression, "What? Am I doing something wrong? This girl sold her job without even telling us. Does she even take us seriously? She should have at least consulted with us. Such a big decision—how can she—"
"She is an adult, and she knows what she is doing," sneered Han Yichen. In the past, he would have comforted his wife after seeing her tearful expression. But now, Han Yichen was really angry. He then said, "And with what authority are you questioning her? Han Ruochen sold the job that belonged to her, and she earned it on her own, but what about you? You used all of our savings without asking me, the head of the house." His eyes narrowed suspiciously, and Han Yichen asked, "Where did you spend so much money?"
He wondered what was going on. What kind of perilous situation did the Meng family get into that they ended up taking so much money from them? Han Yichen was not very clear about his in-laws. They lived in the county, which was far from the village and only a distant uncle of Meng Yunhan’s lived close to their village.
"What? Are you doubting me? I told you that my cousin needed it for his business, and he begged me, so I—"
"You lent him money without an IOU?" Han Yichen finished for her. He curled his lips and stated, "Do you think I am made of money? Ten thousand yuan, Meng Yunhan! You handed away ten thousand yuan like it was nothing. Do you want to kill me!?"
Han Yichen felt his heart ache when he thought about the empty bank account. He knew that his wife was a spendthrift, but he also knew that she was reasonable. He never thought that the woman would be so daring that she would use all of his money. Now he was truly worried —he had five children. Two of them were at school, and one of them was a married woman. How was he going to take care of them? He could eat two meals less, but what about his children? He couldn’t make them suffer along with him, could he?
"Dad, don’t worry." Meng Yunhan might not care about Han Yichen, but Han Ruochen did. She knew that her father was not worried about her. "I will start going to the sea from tomorrow onwards. Maybe my lady luck will keep shining, and I will find a few more rare seafood?"
"Thats—"
"No need." When Han Yichen saw that Meng Yunhan heaved a sigh of relief, he sneered and said, "There is no need for you to work yourself to the bone, Ruochen. You were not the one who wasted all the savings of our Han family over something that resulted in nothing. "The one who tied the knot should be the one undoing it." he turned to look at Meng Yunhan and said in a calm voice, "From tomorrow onwards, you should look for a job. Regardless of how much you earn, you need to start adding to your monthly contribution as well."
