Chapter 55: I am not scared of you
"What did you do now?" Father Han demanded as he walked over. Just now, he heard from his employees that Han Jianyou returned with Han Ruochen and Han Beijiang. When Father Han heard that his troublesome son had returned home, and that too when he should have been at school, he felt his head throb with another headache, and he came rushing out.
When Han Jianyou saw his father running toward him, he felt a twitch of warmth in his heart, but when he heard his father blame him, all of a sudden, the warmth in his eyes and heart vanished, and he turned around to leave. Hah, what did he expect? His father didn’t even care about him or his other siblings, and as he was a middle child, he had it worse than the others.
"Stop right there." However, before Han Jianyou could leave, he was stopped by Han Ruochen. He turned to glare at her and tell her to mind her own business, but when he met with Han Ruochen’s gaze, Han Jianyou was so terrified that he didn’t dare to say another word.
Once Han Ruochen had stabilized her foolish brother, she then turned to look at her father. She softly said to him, "Dad, you didn’t even ask why Jianyou was here and scolded him right away. Don’t you think that you were being too harsh on him? Why did you have to scold him without even asking what he did or why he came to look for you? Aren’t you breaking his heart by doing this?"
Han Ruochen’s questions stumped Han Yichen. He frowned and turned to look at Han Jianyou, whose eyes were still looking at him defiantly, but there were tears swirling inside his eyes. He looked like he was going to cry any moment now but was trying his best to hold back.
Seeing this, even if Father Han was angry, his heart couldn’t help but soften.
"Alright, it is my mistake. Don’t cry and come inside. I received some watermelon this morning; I will cut a few pieces for you three." Father Han was not an unreasonable father. When he heard Han Ruochen’s questions, he realized that his treatment of Han Jianyou was not correct and tried to make amends.
But who was Han Jianyou? He was fierce to those who were fierce to him, and he was even more fierce to those who backed down. When he saw his father had backed down, he immediately glared at him and said, "Who wants your lousy watermelon?"
However, just as he finished speaking, Han Ruochen raised her hand and smacked him on the back as hard as she could. Of course, she controlled her strength and made sure she wouldn’t hurt Han Jianyou.
"Oww!? Why did you hit me?" Han Jianyou glared at the woman. He rubbed the spot where she hit him and questioned her angrily, "Are you trying to turn me into a fool since I didn’t fall on my head just now?" Han Jianyou had a feeling that Han Ruochen was actually planning something like that.
Han Ruochen simply glanced at Han Jianyou and remarked, "Who do you think you are? How dare you raise your voice at your father?"
"That—"
"Shut up or else I will hit you even harder," snapped Han Ruochen. She then thought about something and added softly, "And don’t worry about losing anymore of your braincells. You should worry about it when you have something —but when you have nothing, what are you worried about?"
After speaking, she walked past Han Jianyou, who was scratching his head quite hard. He frowned and muttered, "Less cells...?" For three entire minutes, he couldn’t understand what the woman said to him and by the time he realised what Han Ruochen had said to him, ten minutes had already passed by. "That woman actually called me mentally retarded!"
Furious, Han Jianyou chased right after Han Ruochen. However, if he had stopped and thought about how long it took for him to understand what Han Ruochen had said to him, maybe his anger would have diminished a little.
"Huff, huff, how dare you call me dumb?" Han Jianyou glared at his elder sister and questioned angrily. "Just because you are older than me by a few years, do you think that you have become a big shot or something? How dare you call Laozi dumb?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Han Ruochen picked up the fishing rod that her father had gifted her and used it to smack Han Jianyou on the back.
"OWW!" Han Jianyou arched his back as the burning pain that shot through his skin made him wince in agony. His hands reached toward his back, and he jumped on the spot. Tears brimmed in his eyes as he spun on his feet and yelled, "Why did you hit me?"
"Whose Laozi do you think you are?" Han Ruochen asked with a raised brow. She already knew that her second brother was a bit out of bounds and had developed a rebellious personality; what she never knew was that Han Jianyou would actually dare to curse in front of his elders. He really had no qualms or morals left in him, did he?
Han Jianyou clamped his mouth shut. Oops. Just now, he was so angry that he actually blurted out whatever he had in his mind. He pursed his lips, wanting to say something but couldn’t, as apologizing didn’t come as easily to him as cursing.
"What? Cat got your tongue? Cannot speak anymore? Good. Now sit down, and have a piece of watermelon." Han Ruochen calmly handed out the order while handing a piece of watermelon to Han Beijiang.
Unexpectedly, even this flared Han Jianyou’s rebellious side. He harumphed and said, "Who wants to sit down and eat a watermelon? I have no mood for it."
"Sit down."
"I won’t."
Han Jianyou remained stubborn till the end, and it was only when Han Ruochen picked up the fishing rod that he finally sat down in the chair.
However, with a pout, he muttered, "Don’t even think that I backed down because I was scared of you, alright?"
