Chapter 241: Bought Two Old Properties
Second Uncle Han looked at Han Ruochen, who shot him a look, telling him to get on with it. When Second Uncle Han realised that he had no other choice, he could only suck in a breath and then knock on the door. As soon as he finished knocking and dropped his hand on his side, the door was pulled open, and a man with a pot belly walked out. He was wearing a thick gold chain and a three-piece suit on his body with little to no hair on his bald head.
He looked at Han Ruochen and Second Uncle Han with a frown on his face and questioned, "Who are you and what do you want from me?" As he spoke, he looked at the humble piece of clothing that Second Uncle Han was wearing and could not help but feel contemptuous. He looked down on people like Second Uncle Han, who tried to chew more than they could swallow, but he still pretended to be cordial as he enjoyed mocking these people once they realised that they had no money to buy the properties under his name.
Of course, Han Ruochen could see what was going on in the mind of the man. However, she restrained her temper when she thought about how she needed his consent to get the courtyard. Haha, let this man be happy for a while; once the demolition information comes out, she will see how happy this man will be. She cleared her throat and then greeted the man with a cheerful smile on her face. "Hello, Master Chu. My uncle wanted to ask if the courtyard at Black Willow Street is still up for purchase?"
Looking at the expression of her second uncle, Han Ruochen knew that the man wouldn’t be able to take the lead. So, she decided to break the ice, anyway; even if Old Chu looked down on her and her uncle, he would soon change his mind once the two of them showed him the money to buy the courtyard.
Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, Old Chu was indeed interested. That courtyard had been a cause of trouble for him ever since he was young. Because of his one mistake, that courtyard was declared haunted, and no one was willing to buy it. Even when he lowered his price from forty thousand yuan to twenty thousand, no one came to buy it. Old Chu had been waiting for a buyer of that courtyard for ages.
He looked at the two of them and finally stepped to one side. "Come inside."
Second Uncle Han sighed in relief. He turned to look at Han Ruochen, who nodded, and then the two of them walked inside the house. Only then did Second Uncle Han realise that even though the house was really small, it was full of all kinds of luxuries. There were all kinds of antiques sitting in every corner of the living room, making Second Uncle Han’s eyes pop out. He turned to look at Han Ruochen, who was rather calm and sat down on a plush armchair, pulling her uncle along.
Old Chu, on the other hand, asked one of his servants to serve tea and snacks. Even though he did not believe that these two could buy his courtyard, he still wanted to try it. After all, that courtyard had been a cause of his headache for a long time, and his wife had been making a fuss for years. She kept harping that he was deliberately not selling that courtyard because he missed that mistress of his.
Only Old Chu knew that he hated that woman to death; if not for the fact that the woman had died in front of his courtyard, he could have sold it off long ago. It was all her fault; if that woman had sucked it up, then things would have never become so troublesome. Now, such a good courtyard was being sold at half the price!
"I am telling you this from the start that the courtyard’s price is twenty thousand yuan." Old Chu stated with a cold voice. "I am not going to lower the price any more than this."
He was worried that these people would ask him to lower his price, and he cleared his stance from the start. He did not want to waste his time as he had seen a lot of people like them before. They all thought that since the courtyard had been sitting abandoned for a while now, Old Chu would sell it off for a lower price, but he was not someone who would be willing to do such a thing. Clearly, he purchased that courtyard for a high sum of money; there was no way he was going to sell it off cheaply.
"Okay," Han Ruochen sighed in relief when he saw that the man had not deliberately raised the price, but on the surface, she showed a troubled expression as if she were upset with the amount that Old Chu had stated. "However, we have to transfer the land deed today." She did not want to wait. Though Old Chu was from the county and did not have many connections, what if he found out about the demolition news? The sooner she got her hands on the deed, the better. At least once that courtyard was in her hands, even if Old Chu wanted to cause trouble for her, she would be able to deal with it.
When Old Chu heard that the woman had agreed, he felt a bit regretful. If he had known the truth, then he would have raised the price a bit higher. But who asked him to hit the wall again and again? He had no way out. He could only sigh and accept Han Ruochen’s demand. Soon, the two of them signed the contract and the land deed was transferred to Han Ruochen, who paid the money to Old Chu and at the same time she also bought an old compartment near the old railway station.
